Or not being allowed to say, in the hope of buliding anticipation (:sleep for the next series?
But then why agree to the interview in the first place if he didn't have anything of substance to say? He must have known Richard would ask about The X Factor judging panel. Similarly he must have known he would ask about product placement, Daybreak and the declining audience shares for BBC One/ITV1. They were all very obvious subjects that would crop up. Unfortunately Mr. Fincham had no satisfactory answers to any of these questions, and so it made for a pretty boring half hour of radio. I can see why 5 Live cut away to a statement from the Commons at one point.

I agree. I'm not sure why he bothered, really.

Just seen an advert for The Hotel Inspector (Series 7) coming soon to Channel 5.

Based on the press packs I have at the moment they are starting promo for this very early. The soonest it can be launching is week commencing 28th March.

I guess Mondays at 9pm from that date is looking likely, as this has proven to be a good place to schedule factual programmes following hot on the heels of the highly successful Royal Navy: Caribbean Patrol. Thursdays are out of the question this time due to the Europa League.
They ordered twelve episodes so they'll probably split it into two runs like they do with Cowboy Builders. No news on The Walking Dead? Mondays at 10pm would be perfect!

Wonder where Paul Merton's Great Escapes will go, Monday is probably the only day available until the Europa League is over. Maybe Sundays although that Channel 5's film night.

The Cowell question might be one which he couldn't fairly answer but he should've had something prepared for the rest - they're pretty obvious and he should've been prepped on them.

Speaking of ITV - what Earth is happening to Dancing on Ice? Is it the only show to see an increase with an earlier start??? Wild at Heart was boosted as well but BBC1 kept in contention with a reasonably complimetary schedule.

I don't understand Dancing on Ice, the one week it starts later (last week), it goes below 8m, yet this week it started earlier yet was back above 8m. How bizarre.

Got To Dance was pulling a million or so talent show viewers but finished on Sky 1 last week, which is probably why Dancing On Ice has increased.

Is Law & Order new tonight? Is it me or has it had no PR and Monroe has stolen all the PR? Weird.....

Could it possibly have had anything to do with Top Gear finishing last week and last night only having a Best of Compilation, which got 3m viewers less than normal?

I have the feeling ITV want to see if Law and Order can stand on it's own feet. It's got a pretty easy start this week but it'll get tougher next week.

I wouldn't have thought that Top Gear and Dancing On Ice would have much crossover! I think Got To Dance finishing is a more likely reason behind the boost.

to see his driver again

worth it to hear his comments re the BBC1 budget and his finance manager - so much cash that you will struggle to spend it all Remember that next time the BBC pleads poverty

Yes, well the BBC has a lot less money these days, largely due to the new licence fee settlement which was forced upon them by MPs who were outraged by the Jonathan Ross deal. And who was the former BBC1 controller who negotiated that?

I'm sure many of the Chase viewers (especially those without HD) will be newly converted to the programme and not realise it's a re-run.
I guess that's why The Chasers offers seem to have dropped significantly in recent episodes then.

The Graham Norton Show is only taking a month's break, returning on Friday 15th April.
They used to do that with Jonathan Ross too (partly because of The Masters) - but looks like they're making the same mistake with Norton in that it will be back in the schedules for Good Friday and Bank Weddingday Friday - two nights when really the BBC should aim to offer something a bit different in their schedules, even if it's just using the opportunity of moving the news to air a decent film at 9pm uninterrupted.

Not yet. I'd agree with you though, that would be an excellent timeslot for it if it's airing weekly, especially as FIVE USA's best audience of the week occurs in the Monday 9pm slot so they could direct viewers to Channel 5 after. Not to mention the big inheritance it would get from The Hotel Inspector as well!

If, like you say, they split The Hotel Inspector into 2 x 6 episode runs, then they could start and finish both shows at the same time as The Walking Dead is also 6 episodes. Monday nights on Channel 5 would be really strong if they did this.

But Norton's show is quality. It should be airing 52 weeks of the year in my opinion with reruns on the weeks in which he's on holiday. It's a HUGE improvement on Wossy's old show. Last week's episode with Miriam Margolyes was absolutely hilarious, haven't laughed that hard at something on TV in ages.

Norton has a knack for bringing out the best in his guests, always, even the ones you think will be dull. And he's always very witty and energetic. Great chat show host.

Splitting the series would allow other Channel 5 series like Extreme Fishing and Paul Merton to air on Mondays. A lot of the other series like Candy Girls and Essex Jungle will most likely air at 8pm or 10pm.

Seconded. I was always lukewarm about Norton, but I noticed the last Monday night run of his series stepped up a gear in terms of quality of guests and just general watchability. It made Ross's offering look even more second-rate.

ITV is welcome to him...

Presumably you used to be a fan of Ross when he was the face of BBC1 but now have gone off him?

He was good when at his peak.

But I think his peak was probably whilst at Channel 4 twenty years ago to be honest...

A&E Press Release:

NEW YORK – March 7, 2011 – The Sunday, March 6th series premiere of the new A&E series “Breakout Kings” delivered record performances for an original drama series for the network, delivering 1.6 million adults 25-54 and 1.5 million adults 18-49. The premiere episode also delivered a strong 2.8 million total viewers.

“’Breakout Kings’ is a smart, action-packed drama with great storytelling and authentic well-drawn characters,” said Bob DeBitetto, President & General Manager of A&E Network and BIO Channel. “Clearly the series has struck a chord with the younger viewers which we have welcomed to the network through our stable of unscripted programming. We’re off to a great start.”

The “Breakout Kings” opener was up 25% in adults 18-49 and 14% in adults 25-54 from the previous network record holder, “The Glades,” which delivered 1.2 million adults 18-49 and 1.4 million adults 25-54 in its July 2010 premiere. “The Glades” will return for a second season this summer.

“Breakout Kings” is a production of Fox 21. The series is created, written and executive-produced by Matt Olmstead (“Prison Break”) and Nick Santora (“Prison Break”). Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) also serve as executive producers.

Looks like a big hit in cable terms. Hopefully someone will pick it up in the UK soon.

on this X-Factor, and ITV not being able to confirm Simon Cowell as a judge, ITV is going to look pretty silly if he doesnt at least judge the live shows, having paid for the big contract but apparntly not secured him to actually be on the show.

Breakout Kings would be nice, but I would love to see United States of Tara, apparntly Eddie Izzard is in it now. Come on More4 pick this up and pair it with The Big C, I may even start to forgive you for The Daily Show.

That works out as a 1.1 A18-49 rating for Breakout Kings - only just less than the 1.3 Lonestar scored for its shockingly low premiere (and better than the 1.0 for the second episode).

Lifetime had 4.2m for Army Wives return and 2.7m for the reality version which followed - Coming Home. It's their biggest premiere for a Lifetime original unscripted series and had a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49.

One of the standout ratings of the night was Secret Millionaire.

Reality series Secret Millionaire started its second incarnation on American television strong, pulling a 3.3/9 in 18-49 and 12.6 million viewers in its debut on ABC last night. That was ABC's best performance in the 8 PM hour with regular programming since March 2008 (in viewers) and November 2009 (18-49). Secret Millionaire, which once aired on Fox, was up 32% in the demo from the season premiere of veteran Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in the same slot and drew the largest audience for any program on Sunday
http://www.deadline.com/2011/03/rati...prentice-down/

The show, created by Brit producer Stephen Lambert, beat Undercover Boss on CBS (10.9m, 2.7) which also happened to be created by Lambert (although he doesn't produce Secret Millionaire).

Even if Cowell isn't judging, they'd still be willing to pay big money for the shows.

Well there have only been 3 series (and a handful of specials) - the other, Grease Is The Word, had far more wrong with it than the absence of Simon Cowell!

There are dozens of networks all across the world buying Idol, X Factor and Got Talent without Cowell as a judge.

Do you think ITV would drop the shows if he wasn't judging? After all, they knew he wouldn't do BGT when they signed up for that.

Bet FOX are kicking themselves for dropping Secret Millionaire and not picking up Breakout Kings.

I can see Breakout Kings being picked up by 5USA, a DS interviews with Katie Barnes, the director of 5* and USA said they were looking for a show to complement SOA and Justified especially as Dark Blue only has one more season left for them to air.

The Big C is doing decently on More4 and unusually has a late night repeat on Channel 4, I agree they to need pair it with another comedy like US of Tara and move to 10pm.
