Well, I don't mean 'stEnders, but I mean Holby is hardly a ratings juggernaut. Look at Casualty, ITV can beat that quite easily with The X Factor, so Holby shouldn't be some unsurmountable obstacle. It certainly suffers when it's not in that cushy slot. Yeah, it gets six million but if ITV just show rubbish against it, that's not surprising. What I mean by BBC1 not being that strong is that there's nothing there between 8pm and 10pm that should doom ITV to failure.
And at 9pm there should be a level playing field, stuff might get a crappy lead-in on ITV at 9pm on Tuesdays but BBC1 stuff gets a crappy lead-in at 9pm on Mondays and that doesn't mean the night's a complete write-off.
For some reason ITV put a load of rubbish out on Tuesday when it should be so easy to find something, anything, that would get a decent audience, even opposite Holby.
