but they weren't both off the varibilty of the audience figures for Daybreak vs. Breakfast suggests its audience availability more than presenters that drive the day to day fluctuations.

ITV2's people will be thinking OMG when they see the ratings for that show - ouch.

A "Cowboy Builders" type series would work well for them in that slot.

Well, I don't mean 'stEnders, but I mean Holby is hardly a ratings juggernaut. Look at Casualty, ITV can beat that quite easily with The X Factor, so Holby shouldn't be some unsurmountable obstacle. It certainly suffers when it's not in that cushy slot. Yeah, it gets six million but if ITV just show rubbish against it, that's not surprising. What I mean by BBC1 not being that strong is that there's nothing there between 8pm and 10pm that should doom ITV to failure.

And at 9pm there should be a level playing field, stuff might get a crappy lead-in on ITV at 9pm on Tuesdays but BBC1 stuff gets a crappy lead-in at 9pm on Mondays and that doesn't mean the night's a complete write-off.

For some reason ITV put a load of rubbish out on Tuesday when it should be so easy to find something, anything, that would get a decent audience, even opposite Holby.

Presumably ITV dont want to spend much money on Tuesdays so the factual stuff is probably costing £200k-£300k maximum and breaks even or makes a profit off ad revenue. If they spend £600k-£800k per hour will they get 3 times the audience? Some of the expensive drama failures were barely rating 3m so I'm not sure they would.

Re the Tuesday night problem, I reckon it's only a matter of time before ITV bows to the inevitable and schedules extra Corrie and EmFm eps there, like they did when they ran out of ideas for Thursdays.

As for Grainne Seoige, they should give the job permanently - alongside Christine - and watch Daybreak's ratings soar. I was astonished to learn she was 37 years old, a good 10 years older than she looks.

Schedule a programme that hasnt been on air on ITV in 20 years - isn't that what BBC1 does


she has contract obligations elsewhere currently which mean she is not free to present full time on ITV at the minute

OMG @ OMG. That must be one of the lowest rating in that slot for years.

Funny that whenever the BBC does that the show is always a success, To The Manor Born got a healthy 10m after being off air for 26 years. Likewise, when BBC brought Auf Wiedershen Pet back it was a big success, after it finished on ITV 16 years previously.

They should try a remake of Crossroads, to fill the 5.30pm BBC1 weekday slot, which hasn't been the same post Neighbours.

But get Julie Walters and Victoria Wood to do it...

Solid as ever for BBC between 7pm and 10pm on Wednesday's. ITV did well, I didn't think Tottenham/AC Milan would peak at 8m myself.

There was only one way that show was going after last week's premiere which was low in itself and that was down. It was universally hated.

Yet another example of ITV trying to go for the "yoof" audience and failing spectacularly, pairing somebody nobody likes with a format so dumb it makes Celebrity Juice look like Mastermind.

ITV have certainly splashed out on Monroe. Full page ads were present in at least two national newspapers today - The Mirror and The Sun. Those were the only two papers that I saw, but I assume it made an appearance in others as well.

Interesting that Tottenham rated higher than Arsenal, would have thought it would be the other way round but then again AC Milan are a draw as well.

Good results for NCIS and Masterchef while the 23 Weeks programme did decently for BBC Two.

The 23 weeks programme exceeded my expectations performance wise, especially after how Leah's Dream rated last week. Very worthy subject matter but also very emotive and I thought it might be too heavy going for most halfway through the working week.

I think being on BBC Two helped. Leah's Dream should have rated better but it was unfortunateluy scheduled in ITV1's Flopzone.

Monroe should do well tonight, probably helps that Channel 5 picked the earlier Liverpool match than the later Man City match although Monroe may be dented as Liverpool are in primetime next week.

I wonder should there be a second series of Monroe whether ITV1 will have made arrangement as James Nesbitt is going to be in The Hobbit

That film must be causing a few headaches in TV land, actually. Martin Freeman is able to film 3 more Sherlock's despite his involvement - but I guess his limited availability might be one of the (many) reasons they can't go for a longer run on that. Also, Aiden Turner has been cast in it, which presumably would cause some trouble for a fourth series of Being Human.

In fact, looking through the cast list, the TV industry in this country won't have any damn actors left! Peter Jackson must be a fan of British TV.

They must have scheduled a break in filming to accomdate the actors especially Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberdatch's doing Frankenstein at the moment and once that's done, they start filming Sherlock.

I never know whether this excessive promotion helps or not though.

It's bound to start well but I'm not sure whether it will be as stable as Marchlands was.

It was in my 'Metro' paper this morning. Shame James nesbitt is in it. I might have watched it otherwise.

James Nesbitt has said he's got time off from The Hobbit later this year when they could potentially film a second series of Monroe.

But let's see how the first few episodes go before even thinking about a second one. It's been promoted a lot by ITV so should get ~6m for its launch but I get the feeling this will go the same way as The Fixer/MSO/Identity. It's had favourable advanced reviews but I think ITV have made a mistake making it sound too similar to House and over-promoting it; people are already slating it and calling it a "crap House rip-off" even before the show has aired! It reminds me of how MSO was being likened to Cold Feet and inevitably it didn't live up to those expectations for its first episode and the audience dropped straight away for ep 2, even though the series as a whole was pretty good. Also even though James Nesbitt might have his fans, there seems to be a lot of people who hate him and the last few projects he's done haven't exactly been ratings-winners (Jekyl/The Passion/Occupation). Like Agent F has said, I doubt it'll be as stable as Marchlands was (which was remarkably stable for a new ITV drama). If the first episode doesn't impress viewers, it may well be sub-5m as soon as episode 2. As always, they need to make the right impression in the first episode - viewers are unforgiving these days and if episode 1 doesn't grip them, then a significant portion of the audience won't be coming back for any more.

I wonder what the 1m Mad Dogs viewers will watch tonight?

Monroe, and then no doubt some will switch to House at 10pm!!
