Excellent for the football last night but Waterloo Road does benefit when it's not opposite a two hour repeat. I don't think there's a word in the dictionary to describe the performance of OMG!

As for Tuesday night's problem for ITV- I would move an episode of Coronation Street and Emmerdale there, but not extra episodes. Just move Friday's 7.30pm episode for Coronation Street and Thursday's 7pm episode for Emmerdale (Corrie at 8; Emmerdale at 8.30). Then switch the soap hour around on Thursday so it mirrors it.

I wonder what the 1m Mad Dogs viewers will watch tonight?

Monroe, and then no doubt some will switch to House at 10pm!!
Yes, it doesn't help Monroe that it airs in the slot immediately prior to arguably the daddy of this type of drama, loved the world over.

Will it pale in comparison? Time will tell.

TUESDAY
7:00pm Emmerdale
Seth and Betty reunite for a final time in this tearjerking edition of the village serial.
7:30pm Hang The DJ
Matt Edmondson and Caroline Flack host the quirky music roundup, with live performances, special guests and an interview with former Smiths frontman Morrissey
8:00pm The Madness of Michael McIntyre
Michael McIntyre stars as himself in a 'Curb'-esque sitcom - in the first episode, Michael receives death threats after being nominated for another British Comedy Award. David Mitchell and Charlie Brooker guest star.
8:30pm Takeshi's Castle
Craig Charlies and Simon Gregson narrate a brand new series of the cult Japanese gameshow,
9:00pm Celebrity Juice
Keith Lemon is joined by new team captains Joe Swash and Danny Dyer for a new series of the BAFTA-winning panel show.
9:30pm Harry Hill's TV Burp
Harry Hill's uncut TV Burp includes raunchy footage of EastEnders lovers Heather and Darren, and other too-hot-for-7-o-clock clips.
10:00pm News at Ten
Trevor McDonald returns for a revamped News at Ten with Julie Etchingham. Includes exclusive interview with Mohammed Al Fayed, and weather.

(There is method within the madness).
I'd say we should sent the blokes around with the straight jackets now! Simplifying it a bit perhaps having one new pre-watershed sitcom at 8.30pm, with TV Burp at 8pm and Benidorm at 9pm could form a comedy block if ITV wanted to take that risk - with a bit of added security.

ITV have certainly splashed out on Monroe. Full page ads were present in at least two national newspapers today - The Mirror and The Sun. Those were the only two papers that I saw, but I assume it made an appearance in others as well.
Although TV needs another medical drama as much as it needs another drama starring James Nesbitt, I hope it works out for ITV as they're on a bit of a roll with drama at the moment - something that's been long needed.

Great to see Peaches Geldof flopping. Hopefully that will be the last we'll ever see of her.

Well you never know.

Who is Grainne?

Monroe trending on Twitter (I know, it means nothing), but reaction is mixed.

Grainne Seoige is an Irish TV/presenter type, she does something on Daybreak, not sure what, as I've never seen it.
She's very big in Ireland, presents Irish version of Got Talent, looks like a younger Davina, but quite cold and personality less.

Bit weird how Adrian doesnt present the show on the morning of the football but presents the morning after. I would have thought it would be the other way round.

A no brainer decision, really. It was a big hit on RTE, has rated well on BBC1 so far and also increasing its audience, so it would've been an odd decision if they didn't do another series. The next series will probably be even more popular than the current run as in the period between the two series, new viewers may watch the show through repeats/online/DVD following good word of mouth. This and Miranda have come at a good time for BBC1 as they'll boost their sitcom lineup which had been declining the last few years.

I very much agree - there's a sense that this one could be a bit of a grower. I don't know where they could move it in slot terms if it did really take off, though. I just think 9pm would be a no-go with the Daily Mail crowd.

And yes, when you add in Come Fly With Me as well, its been a nice enough start to 2011 for the comedy department.

I have posted recently about the cuts coming at the BBC and the fact that people have not yet really digested what is coming.

Well The Times tomorrow contains this (no link as paywall):

"Cost-cutting at the BBC will provoke fierce protests when the public see programmes cancelled and channels closed, the incoming Chairman of the BBC Trust has warned MPs.

In a dire assessment of the financial challenges facing the corporation, Lord Patten of Barnes said it was inevitable that both he and Mark Thompson, the BBC’s Director-General, would become hugely unpopular.

“There are going to be huge fusses,” he said. “There’ll be all hell let loose. I don’t think it’s going to be a particularly popular job in the next few years. But these decisions have to be made.”"

Anything that upsets the Daily Wail is fine by me.But I think the number of four-letter words would upset BBC1 even at 9 pm, can't see them starting it before 10.30 pm.

Monroe: 5.7m (24.4%) excluding HD and +1.

Should be above 6m with HD and +1. A strong start for it, as I was concerned it would fall at the first hurdle with people dismissing it as a House rip-off before it even started. It seems to have gone down well with those who watched it so hopefully it'll hold up next week.

I think a breakdown will be interesting later, see if it's stable or whether it drops throughout the hour.

Nevertheless another good start for an ITV drama on Thursdays.

Skins - 332k (1.9%) on E4 and 110k (1.2%) on +1.

Stick a fork in it, it is done. R.I.P. Skins, you have officially died with the viewers. E4 will be kicking themselves over committing to S6, it's not worth the expense. A sad day for Skins.

How many (ITV) viewers have ever watched House?

It's tempting to replace the cast again a year early as this lot just isn't working. I suspect though like E4 they're locked into a two year contract.

They are lol. From what I have heard from a reliable source, Skins are running around trying to fix things for S6. But I don't see how they can get about 500K viewers back to get it to a respectable level again. If people didn't like them in S5, why would they suddenly love them in S6?

It's just a disaster for E4.

332k !!
Never thought it would drop as low as that.

Anyway, here's how the series 5 overnights had been doing until this week:

E4 ------------------------ E4 +1
823k (4.6%) ------ 113k (1.1%)
573k (3.2%) ------ 138k (1.3%)
534k (3%) --------- 136k (1.3%)
511k (2.8%) ------- 132k (1.3%)
421k (2.2%) ------- 176k (1.7%)
450k (2.6%) ------- 109k (1.2%)
