Very bad night for BBC1 last night after 8PM.

Not surprised by Skins. I've completely lost interest in this series and I don't appear to be alone.

Good start for Monroe. I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't lose too many viewers next week as ITV really need another returning series, and I actually thought the opening episode was good and enough to get viewers tuning back in next week. We shall see - the breakdown will make for interesting reading.

HA look at Skins! So seems like my initial thoughts as well as everyone else's thoughts on the poor nature of this new cast in the first episode is pretty much apparent. I can now say that NONE of my friends no longer watch Skins.

There was a time I'm sure that Celebrity Juice and Skins were pulling in equal ratings, now CJ is up over a million on Skins.

Outstanding for Celebrity Juice.

The One Show, Emmerdale & Tonight seemed to be hit by the football slightly, but EE put in a surprisingly decent performance, even slightly beating Corrie. Considering how low BBT was I thought Corire would be 9m+ and Emmerdale 8m+.

Decent start for Monroe, but I don't think it will maintain its audience as well as Marchlands did.

Awful for Skins...0.3m is totally unacceptable, and I doubt there's much chance of many future series now. E4 should just invest in other projects. Skins has definitely had its day. On the other hand 1.3m for Celebrity Juice is amazing. It's a funny show, but it does surprise me how many people watch it, considering the fairly crude nature.

There will be a BBC News special on the BBC News channel at 8.30 this evening and also on BBC1 at 8.35 after EastEnders.

Very good start for Monroe. As ever, it'll be about retention from here on, but its got every chance of stabilising at a nice level which would be a boost to ITV1.

Poor night for BBC One after EE was over. Bang Goes The Theory does just about well enough to survive in its usual 7.30 slot but these 8pm specials do terrible. The show was always Jay Hunt's baby, and it'll be interesting to see what the approach now is. It's commendable to try and get science into primetime, but there are much better ways of doing it (see: Brian Cox on BBC Two).

Just awful for Skins. I think it's dying now, to be honest, but is going to have a very long goodbye with another full series to come. The only potential salvation for the series would be the movie thats meant to be in the works - but I don't see how that would help the current (or next) generations.

Should also mention brilliant numbers for Celebrity Juice, absolutely thrashing E4.

Skins used to beat Celebrity Juice. Now it's pwning Skins. I guess the people who have baled on Skin are now watching ITV 2 lol

I am watching neither tbh But, Skins deserve these crappy ratings. If they can have hardcore fans leaving like this. I too know none of my friends are watching Skins anymore.

The movie is a Gen 2 movie, so if it happens it can't help S6 as it won't be ready in time to do any good for this generation. But with such awful ratings I have a horrible feeling the movie won't happen at all, as they may believe the audience is gone.

I don't have a breakdown for it, but MediaTel says that it peaked with 6.1m (excluding HD) while the average was 5.7m (excluding HD). That suggests the low point for the show rated at about ~5.3m (exc HD), so it seems to be a drop of ~0.8m throughout the hour, as a guesstimate. That's more than the 0.6m drop that Marchlands experienced for its first episode but less than the 0.9m, 1.1m and 1.3m falls that Identity, Kidnap & Ransom and Married Single Other experienced for their first episodes, and in line with Whitechapel, Law & Order UK and Unforgiven (0.7m, 0.8m, 0.8m). Difficult to say how it'll hold up next week though as scheduling factors will come into play (as well as people dropping out due to not liking ep 1), due to BBC1 and C5 offering tougher competition than last night.

Some strange ratings last night. Considering the poor BBC1 rating at 8pm, I'm surprised Coronation Street lost out to EastEnders, it seems BBC1 boosted Channel 4 but not ITV1, strangely.

Horrific for Skins. I suspect we'll see some more News Specials throughout the day.

Just noticed DS say (and I'm not sure if this is just an error) that BGT starts in April or May: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s107/...nt-search.html

I wonder if it's going to start later because of the extra auditions, but run on Saturdays and Sundays at 8pm?

Well The Times tomorrow contains this (no link as paywall):

"Cost-cutting at the BBC will provoke fierce protests when the public see programmes cancelled and channels closed, the incoming Chairman of the BBC Trust has warned MPs.

In a dire assessment of the financial challenges facing the corporation, Lord Patten of Barnes said it was inevitable that both he and Mark Thompson, the BBC’s Director-General, would become hugely unpopular.

“There are going to be huge fusses,” he said. “There’ll be all hell let loose. I don’t think it’s going to be a particularly popular job in the next few years. But these decisions have to be made.”"”

Some of the non-paywall papers have now picked this story up, if anyone wants to read more.

I think most people are smart enough to know where to direct their anger, though, and it won't be at Patten or Thompson. It'll be directed at the Tories, both over this, and many other issues too.

Is it possible for the sixth series of Skins to be cancelled? I'm sure series that have double commisions have been axed before.

Monroe did very well but the real test is next week with the Comic Relief Trek and Football.

I think the BBC sitcom After You've Gone had a double commission for series three and four, but series four was cancelled. I think they'd already started on the scripts, too.

This is a ratings thread? Do you really want to turn it into a BBC waste arguement? If you do, I'm game.......

The Tory cuts will affect ratings.

That's what they're for.

Channel 4 seem to have moved their film premieres to Saturdays as The Happening airs on 19th March. It should do well but it's a terrible film.

Speaking of films, there are a few couple of films from 2007 that haven't received terrestrial premieres and they are The Golden Compass, Hairspray, Rush Hour 3 and Rocky Balboa.

It's just a disaster for E4.”

I may be completely wrong on this but I think series 4 bettered series 3 at least - though not doubling the audience of course.

It can probably recover to more respectable figures if it's in a less competitive slot next year (e.g. Monday after Glee), but I doubt it'll get to 800-900,000 again - I don't think it's done so bad it'll get demoted to 11pm, or even axed.

To be honest I think Skins has a similar problem to Shameless - they've both lost their shock factor and Skins is outskinned now by shows like Misfits and The Inbetweeners, and similarly Shameless doesn't appear so shameless anymore.

Shameless is a parody of itself and is a cash cow for Channel 4 and Paul Abbott. It'll be interesting to see how the US version of Shameless fares as it is meant to be quite good.

As with any company I do have the feeling the BBC do waste more than they need to. If they cut wisely it shouldn't affect the programming budget too badly, but as others have said maybe that's for the broadcasting forum.

Back to last night, and relatively low for Coronation Street considering the lack of competition. Monroe did well but it'll be interesting to see if it how much of an audience it holds on to next week. BBC1 struggled post EastEnders but that was to be expected.
