Sadly it was inevitable when they scheduled it on a Saturday night - and then decided half way through to begin showing films too.

A complete waste of a quality show there when it has previously filled a 9pm slot for them (and I think got a late night repeat on BBC1, certainly the first series at least) - and I think Nurse Jackie is getting similarly mistreated after a well received first season in a 10pm weeknight slot.

Interesting divide between the Football and the Rugby, with the Football actually winning quite comfortably. Didn't stop BBC winning the night after that though.

Take Me Out will get recommissioned, can't see Push the Button getting recommissioned though.

I'm sure the BBC will be very happy with 7m viewers, especially as all of ITV's LE shows were below 5m.

I'm amazed at how in synch with the Great British Public I am with regards to the National Lottery quizzes; all the ones I like are hits, all the ones I hate flop. Secret Fortune has, of course, had a leg-up from Let's Dance for the last 3 weeks. It'll be interesting to see how it fares alongside SYTYCD in a fortnight. Lots of complaints that it's too confusing. Can't agree but even if you do think that, I reckon it still has a play-along-at-home quality about it.

I predicted in the DS Ratings Predictions Game 1.4m for Celebrity Naked Ambition. I made my prediction before I knew what the show was about and I thought I'd seriously under-predicted. Amazingly, I predicted too high. Bad luck, Channel 4. Looks like titilation doesn't work any more.

BBC3's Pop's Greatest Dance Crazes averaged 1m over 3 hours. A good result for them.

Well, at the end of last nights ep, TMO was asking for people to apply for the next series. So based on this, I would say for sure, it will be back!

Let's Dance to Comic Relief did pretty well, although that's its lowest rated final out of its three series (based on overnight figures). It's just as well each series is 4 episodes because it'd probably lose a bit of steam of its run was longer and not be as fresh, as in this series it didn't really hold or build its audience like the previous two runs. Good ratings for Secret Fortune and Casualty, for another solid Saturday night for BBC1.

I predicted 6.5m on the RPG for the FA Cup but forgot it was up against a rugby match on BBC1, which although it didn't rate too well, must've taken a few of the male viewers away from the FA Cup match. The rest of ITV's lineup rated pretty similar to how they've done recently - will be interesting to see if TV Burp and Push The Button recover next week up against seemingly weaker opposition. They should be capable of 5m+ if the France v Wales match is a dead rubber (Harry Hill should, anyway). Take Me Out will be back for another series, they were advertising for applicants for a new series last night, and it did well given that it finished at 10.20pm.

TV Burp is being affected badly by the dreadful lead out. I remember saying Push the Button may not improve Saturday nights much compared Primeval and so it's proven. Next week should see a boost I would have thought, with the rugby on BBC1 appealing to a different audience.

BBC1 had a very good night; I guess if they want to save money the Lottery quizzes are relatively cheap to makel just lower the winning cost and they could stick it on for an hour outside the draw.

Would be funny if despite being the shortest performance show of the series, tonight's DOI is also the lowest rated performance show of the series (and under 8m ). Would be strange.

Of course, this year BBC1's figures include HD, whereas last year their HD programmes were on BBC HD. So in real terms it's dropped year on year.

BBC HD has stayed steady, no doubt due to the increase of HD homes, offset by the loss of BBC1 programmes.

TMO beats Ant and Dec the 4th time in a row... and reaches 20% share, brilliant!! Especially as it finished at 10:20pm... it would have been around 5.3m+ if it was on earlier, and it would be getting consistently 5m+ if it was always on at the same time.

Let's Dance... overnight series averages:

2009- 7.5m (33%)
2010- 6.7m (29%)
2011- 7.1m (31%)

So it was a solid rated series by its standards. Up 0.4m compared to last year, though not quite as popular as the first one which was a surprise hit at the time.


DOI is one of those shows which weirdly does better when beginning in the 6pm hour (about 6.30pm) than 7pm hour. Maybe it's because Countryfile has a head-start over it if it starts at 7.10pm like tonight and some viewers stick with BBC1? Not sure, but I think tonight's show should do better than 8m because there's no Top Gear opposition like a couple of weeks ago when it was in the 7's.


Ah true, forgot about that. So it was probably down 0.1 share points in real terms compared to last year, because some of last year's BBC HD share would've been for non-BBC1 shows too.

You're not the first person who said that when Secret Fortune appeared on our screens. In It to Win It is coming back later in the year as they recorded eight episodes back to back with the series that aired in September/January. We also got another series of Who Dares Wins as well in the Lottery episode cupboard.

I find it ironic that back in 2002 everybody was slagging off In It to Win It when it first aired, saying it's slow and the contestants are certain to be actors. Now nine years on, it's still airing and the viewers are liking it. You could say In It to Win It is the modern day Family Fortunes.

Did they merge ITV1 HD into ITV1's figures?

Yeah last year until the ITV1 HD channel launch, HD was included in ITV1's share. In my previous post, the ITV1 shares include HD for both years so the comparison is fair.

on m/c the disappearance of Virgin One and Bravo and Sky Atlantic not being available except on Sky must have some effect. ITV, Ch4 and five should be mopping up more share as the free options dry up.

A strong showing from the ITV multichannels. ITV3, in particular, is very strong indeed.

Far too early to make these sorts of judgements yet, of course - but so far there appears to have been no notable effect of ITV+1 on the main channels share. By the end of the year, I imagine ITV might have some PR friendly statements to make about "increasing ITV1 share (inc. +1)"

Fairly good for the big football match, though it wasn't as close as might have been hoped as they headed into the latter stages and the rugby competition probably held it back somewhat too. Another very average night for ITV1's big entertainment offerings, in contrast to another very solid performance for BBC One. The way the rugby's panning out is extremely bad news for next weeks primetime fixture for them, though.

Surely ITV would have wanted Man United v Man City as the Final?

At this rate, there is a chance that City could beat United and ITV won't be able to show Man United playing in the FA Cup, and not being able to show Man United would be like the sky falling in...

And Man U vs Bolton or Stoke is hardly going to outrate the League Cup Final rating that BBC1 has banked this year - and that will be embarrassing for both ITV and the FA!
