Does anyone have any ratings from the middle of the night?

It'd be interesting to see how many people actually watch BBC News Channel on BBC1, ITV Nightscreen, ITV Morning News etc at 4am.

And for anyone wondering why ITV Daybreak is still languishing in the ratings toilet, here are the bottom five programmes...

Daybreak (ITV1, Feb 1) - 67
Daybreak (ITV1, Feb 3) - 67
Daybreak (ITV1, Jan 31) - 66
Daybreak (ITV1, Feb 4) - 65
Daybreak (ITV1, Feb 2) - 63”

Wow, I didn't think each episode would occupy the bottom slot

It's consistent at least

I caught a bit of the thread on GBR and everyone saying they didnt much like him in the eighties but what a transformation. Micheal Portillo has a tremendously easy going approach to interviewing in this style of programme-reminded me of Michael Palin. I predict a big future for MP.

- Garrow's Law has been recommissioned by the BBC, it returns for 4 episodes once again. The last series officially averaged 5.5m up against tough ITV competition, so a well deserved renewal for it.

- Jeremy Paxman fronting a new 5x'60 factual series for BBC1 due to air this Autumn, which traces the rise and fall of the British Empire – and its lasting effect on the modern world.

- ITV commissions a new 7x60' comedy series, Show Me The Funny, which aims to discover a new stand-up comedy star. By the end of the series, one comedian will be crowned 'The Next Big Stand-Up'.

These days I think its the format that makes the show - and thats what the broadcasters need to be working on rather than worrying about presenting talent.”

I guess it's also a problem - in the golden days format were built around presenters, but now presenters need to fit into formats. Apart from Ant and Dec there isn't really anyone around at the moment you could build a show around.

Anyone have any predictions for Outcasts tonight? Will be embarrassing for BBC if it goes under 3m, as it'd almost certainly mean The Biggest Loser would win its slot with probably ~4.5m.

I'd suggest 3m is quite likely. If it does, it'll get banished to 10.35 before it's done. Quite appropriate for a drama called "Outcasts". Traffic Cops soon I'd suggest

At least the BBC can't be accused of failing to promote it. A full fortnight and a bit of trailers, plum slot, other dramas moved around to give it the best chance. A massive waste of £5m. The alarm bells were ringing last Autumn. Just not credible....

Sunday 9pm fair - will it be ready to take on whatever ITV out in the Downton Abbey slot in the autumn, I wonder? Otherwise it'll get the January slot this year occupied by Zen I guess.

Could be soap opposition on a Thursday - like Human Planet it'll probably be complementary planning leading to good figures for BBC1.

More Light Entertainment - will probably be dumped on Friday's at 9pm and crash.

Dancing on Ice and Wild at Heart are still doing ok for ITV1; Top Gear's performing as strong as ever for BBC2 though ever so slightly down on last week and the BAFTAs did brilliantly considering how it performed last year.

That's not a tactic the BBC employ is it ? I mean it's not like they ratings chase or anything.

When was the last time they shunted a programme ?

I think they'll persevere with it and keep it at 9pm until the end of the series because I suspect it's too expensive to shunt it to a late slot like 10:35pm.

Not a fan of the show, but worth noting that the current series is so far Wild at Heart's highest rated since 2006. Official averages for the first 5 episodes of each series:

2006- 9.72m
2007- 8.04m
2008- 8.05m
2009- 7.76m
2010- 7.84m
2011- 8.13m (8.26m inc +1)

Bearing in mind it's facing tougher competition than usual this year (from Top Gear), I think it's doing really well and more importantly it's been consistent this series whereas last year it fluctuated a lot week by week. Will be interesting to see if and how South Riding affects it next week.

WaH is a strong performer for ITV. Personally it bores the live out of me. I usually catch the last 5mins of it every week and I always wonder why people watch this. Maybe no one is watching, and most people leave ITV1 on while they wait for the DoI results.

Does Wild at Heart skew to an old demographic ?

Not particularly, it has a pretty broad appeal I'd say. About ~35% of its audience are aged 18-49 which is higher than most BBC1/ITV1 dramas and not too dissimilar to something like Hustle (usually high 30s% 18-49 skew).

The BBC does not chase ratings, it does however assist programs to find their audience, and having a drama being possibly outrated by Panorama will not be acceptable.

If the dropoff is bad enough, it will get moved. Kudos will just have to grin and bear it, it's pretty much their first flop on BBC1.

So are we all expecting to see a significant increase in shows on Channel 5 now due to all the people tuning in who refused to watch it when it was called Five.

I think the weather said everything you needed to know about this revamp - it opens by telling us who styled and dressed the weather girl.

Does anyone (Dancc??) Know when Better With You and Shit My Dad Says are planned to start on 5*? As the original artical never said

That's just getting humiliating for Ten. No signs of any moving in the right direction for the news. No sign of Neighbours slowing down now the hype of the move has died down either, which is good.

According to Geektown which updates the air dates as soon as they are announced, both shows are due to air in March but the date & time are to be confirmed. I would guess they would air the night the channel is being relaunched which is 7th March but as I said, thats a pure guess.

Will the gap grow as autumn sets in? If so, will TEN hold their nerve or quickly switch Neighbours back to TEN?

Olympics 2012 Opening Ceremony - Friday 27th July 2012, BBC1, 7.30pm

Where will the displaced episode of EastEnders go?

Need to go to bed, so no time to plough through the rest of the Olympics schedule. But it's now out...
