Wednesday 25th July, 7.30pm would be my guess. I think the BBC may take EastEnders off the air altogether over the Olympics period though.

(EDIT: Between that and the European Championships, it could be an interesting sporting summer...I bet ITV will hang back with displaced Emmerdale's and Coronation Street's to air while the Olympics are on.)

It would probably be sensible to at least reduce the amount of Eastenders during the Olympics as whatever will be on instead of the normal schedule is going to rate very well.

Will ITV even try to schedule anything new apart from soaps? They may aswell just show repeats for two weeks.

Wouldn't be surprised if ITV did put repeats in the 9pm hour for the fortnight - what's the point of starting anything when most people'll be watching BBC1?

Could be an excellent year for BBC1. They won't have to splash out for a couple of months over the summer which could mean their spring/autumn/winter output is improved with more drama funds being carried over.

I think EastEnders would be best on a break. Let them build up to a huge cliffhanger, like Home and Away does, then take a couple of weeks off.

BBC1 is going to be wall to wall Olympics, with short news breaks.

Worth noting that Neighbours recorded a peak of 0.43m on ELEVEN last night, showing a push into the 0.4m category is possible soon!

They'll almost certainly grow. Every show gets some kind of boost as the Autumn/Winter months arrive. I think Ten will stick with it though and retool, retool, retool to try and save the news.

As it is, Ten are suffering, Eleven are flourishing. If they moved it back, Eleven would collapse and Neighbours would still range from 400,000-700,000 as it did last year. Which is better than the news but not mindblowing. Better to have one struggling station than two. Neighbours has secured it's future on Eleven now, I think.

They could always move it onto BBC2, I suppose - I agree with you that the break is the best option, though.

It's a predicament for them isn't it ?

I wonder if there is a significant anti-Olympic audience to target ?
Probably not.

They could save up some dramas or an entertainment event but they'd probably get lost and be wasted.

How about 24 hour Love Island for 2 weeks ?

90 minutes of Emmerdale and 90 minutes of Coronation Street each night?

I suspect they'll go with:

19:00 Emmerdale
19:30 Coronation Street
20:00 Midsomer Murders (rpt) or similar 2 hour drama

A bit like what they do in the World Cup when they don't have a match I guess. It'll only be for a fortnight.

BBC1 should give EastEnders a break rather than shunting it around. BBC2 will run as normal I suspect to offer a decent alternative to the Olympics.

Of course there will be a significant number of people who don't want to watch the Olympics wall-to-wall. True Channel 7 achieved its highest ratings ever for the Sydney Olympics but there were plenty of people not watching, similarly in the US where NBC have the rights (and time-delayed the Sydney Olympics so much results were appearing in newspapers before they were on TV !) But clearly it's going to be a big summer for the BBC. Presumably BBC2 will sell itself as the non-Olympics channel ?

I dont want to be one of those people who says that the BBC is ALL sport, and I realise how big the 2012 games could be, but I would hate to see EE and other BBC 1 shows dropped completey.

Its not looking good for TEN.

I started a thread in soaps asking something similar, being honest i believe it and everything else bar the news will be dropped until at least 10pm at night then the highlights after the news till handover to BBC news at whatever o'clock.

Also bear in mind if EE is dropped then thats at least £2.6 million saved over the fortnight by not having the soaps on/filming episodes for those weeks.

OK! TV 450,000 (2.1%)

Decent start actually. Top end of how C5 normally performs in that slot.

Outcasts only got 2.9m (12%) last night...

That's up against relatively weak competition. It may well rate even worse tonight up against BFGW and the Brits.

Anyone know how Coronation Street did for its big episodes?

at Outcasts. I'm guessing ITV won the slot, but I wouldn't be surprised if C4 sneaked in at first.

Home and Away's highest overnight in a good while. It does seem C5 got a boost of sorts from the rebrand.

Anything for Caribbean Patrol at 9? Ta Mike.

So about 4m wins the Monday, 9pm slot... in February? Wow.

Very good for Coronation Street, will be 11m including HD.
