PJMillar - is this bundling thing something that you're just doing as an experiment or is it something DS have decided to do with all ratings reports from now on (including Andrew Laughlin's reports)? Also did you bundle it manually? Because on Attentional, the 'ITV1 Total' ratings miss out HD (it's ITV1SD + ITV1+1), just in case you weren't aware. So has HD been factored in to those ratings in your latest report?

I guess there must be a reason for it because like you say it's been a good week and ratings have been good so there has to be a reason.

The BBC 3 repeat of EastEnders isn't added to their main figure and neither is Neigbours,Home and away and Hollyoaks other showings (including Hollyoaks +1)
So why should the ITV soaps be any different.

I don't think they should be doing this at all. They don't add the BBC3 EE rating to the BBC1 rating so why would they add the ITV1 rating to to the ITV+1 rating?

If it airs on Christmas Day, it'll be interesting to see how it affects BBC1 and ITV1, as usually no other channel does decent at all on Xmas Day.

When you change them back later, can you please also report the ITV1+1 ratings for all ITV1 programmes that you've mentioned. I noticed in your reports, you rarely mention the ITV1+1 ratings (maybe once every few days), if you could mention them more in your future ratings reports, like how Andrew Laughlin does it for all ITV shows in his ratings articles, it'd be appreciated. I just think that would be useful for people who do want to take +1s into account (regardless of how big or small the numbers are) so that people get the best of both worlds .

Most programmes down compared to recent weeks. Repeat or not, that's one of the lowest QI ratings I can remember since it moved to BBC1. Hustle has rated 5.7m four weeks in a row so yesterday's rating was a surprising drop but overall the series averaged 5.7m in the overnights, which is excellent for a Friday night and up 0.2m from last year's comparable average. Comedy Rocks finished off its series on one of its lowest ratings of its run. That's the probably the last we've seen of it.

Some weird ratings last night. BBC1 seemed down all night with EE unusually low, especially when you look at the performance of ITV's soaps. Strange drop for Hustle too after being very consistent for every other episode. Maybe people thought it finished 2 weeks ago and the one week break caught viewers out?

Awful for Comedy Rocks again and yet another Friday night entertainment flop to add to the list.

Sorry rzt and to everyone here, Neil Wilkes had a policy of only including +1 figures of over 200k which I followed - had no idea it had been changed unfortunately.

Both Andrew and I have spoken now and we are now including +1 figures all the time - although I need to message Andrew so he adds the +1 audience share for ITV1.

I've changed them now - what do you think of the layout of the +1's?

The problem I find with mentioning +1's all the time is - it doesn't suit itself to the narrative format upon which our ratings roundups fall under.

I hope the way I've displayed them just now might be a solution.

The layout now is really good and very clear in terms of the +1 ratings being mentioned separately. It's good you're mentioning all the +1s and it suits the narrative format well and think I think it's the best solution because as dave01 said, those that want to add them together can easily do so now and those that don't won't - everyone wins. Hmm... mixed bag of numbers last night. Corrie and Emmerdale are still doing brilliantly on ITV1, especially when you contrast them to EastEnders which is looking decidedly lacklustre.

Weird to see Hustle down for its last episode - but on the whole, its coped with the move to Fridays just fine (at least in terms of overall audience) and is looking as solid as ever for the channel. QI repeats are suffering from overkill, I think.

I suppose every successful show gets speculation about a Christmas special. Par for the course.

If they were to do a Christmas episode, it would presumably have to be a "fake Christmas" filmed weeks in advance, or just a regular episode that happens to air at Christmas.

If Ch4 wants to make money from ad revenue, they will keep it well away from the Christmas fortnight, and the big day itself.


Just shows what a can of worms +1 channels have brought with them. Glad to see I'm not the only one speaking out against automatic aggregation - although it feels a losing battle.

Hustle seems to have suffered from Comedy Rocks having a slight uplift - Dame Edna's appearance may have secured a couple of hundred K of floating viewers. Also, I didn't think it a very good episode of Hustle, certainly not as compelling as the last few. I spent most of the hour reading the paper...!

I suppose it being half term holidays this week or next depending where you live may take a few hundred K off some shows during this week and next, affecting some shows less than others - eg, pensioner-friendly Coro St or DOI.

It started at around 5.1m and rose to 5.2m by the end - so very steady but it suggests that it was the low lead-in from QI that dented Hustle?

If you've been looking at the demographics I've posted, BBC1's Sunday lineup in recent weeks has been much more pensioner friendly than DOI. 40-50%+ of Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow and Lark Rise to Candleford's audiences are aged 65 or over (in comparison to DOI's ~30%).

I'm quite sure that even if it does air on Christmas Day, it won't make much of a dent. It might still pull respectable numbers, but I'd hazard a guess that they'd be half what it normally gets. One Born Every Minute is perfectly capable of pulling high 2m's at least on a Monday night, but the Christmas special managed what? About a million?

Christmas TV is still sort of unique because its still the day where families watch together. I think a lot of viewing on that day tends to be for 'compromise' options - which I couldn't see BFGW being. Thats not to mention the crossfire of offerings on the big channels.

Bit worrying for Eastenders with Emmerdale getting almost the same ratings. Coronation St seems strong at the moment as well and about 1.3 million ahead of its cockney rival. However, with the soaps, it's all swings and roundabouts: suppose Kat Slater gets shot and EE would add a million, same a CS has a strong storyline now and this has pushed ratings up.

Lord Sugar has been saying on Twitter today that the new series of The Apprentice will start in May.

So I think it's likely it'll return on Wednesdays after MasterChef ends. I can understand why the BBC are delaying it till late-Spring/Summer because with no World Cup/Euros/Olympics, they'll want a big hitter to air during the summer, which The Apprentice is.

As for last night the stand out ratings are Corrie and Emmerdale which both have had excellent weeks. And thoroughly deserved IMO. Emmerdale has being strong for so long now hardly ever going through bad patches unlike it's other rivals. I feel Corrie has finally turned a corner now. The Tram Crash Week was a huge success and has carried on right into 2011.

Dreadful for EE really. I know it was a Friday but 8.4m in February is not good enough. Incidentally, the same episode last year was the LIVE episode which drew 15.6m (so down 7.2m)
