It was 2004 so it was the time when these things were really taking off. Plus, it was created by the team behind I'm A Celebrity so I guess it made sense and to be fair, it worked for them in the first series.

Then they lost Ramsay, replaced him with Novelli and Rhodes and replaced the celebs with members of the public but that format only lasted one year.

Piers Morgan has said on Twitter that the next series of Life Stories starts in mid-April so despite what I've said previously it looks like it will be airing after BGT. It's a waste of the lead-in but ITV seem obsessed with giving it the best slots so I guess it isn't that surprising. It's hardly wise for them to be launching a new BGT panel and then airing a show presented by one of the old judges straight afterwards either.

Don't know if its been mentioned on here but EastEnders will clash with Corrie by 5 mins on Friday 10th March as the EE ep has been extended to a 35 min long episode.

yes I noticed that on digiguide, not sure what is going on there, its not a mistake (as I first thought) as the BBC 3 repeat is also 35 minutes

Life Stories generally does a good job on Saturday nights in what is a difficult slot to launch new shows and a slot where many alternatives have bombed. I guess whether or not it gets a direct lead-in depends what time they put BGT on at and what other options they have.

Although I'd have liked to see BGT airing on Sundays as well because that does create a good slot which can be used for new series.

EDIT: Worth noting that the return to pre-recorded interviews (many done in early January) sent Piers' US ratings tumbling last week as his yo-yo ratings ride continues.

I can't see them having anything else to show on Saturdays, so it'll most likely be: 19:00 The Cube, 20:00 Britain's Got Talent, 21:15 Life Stories.

That does seem pretty solid in fairness, but it is a little disappointing that they haven't got anything new after BGT. I'd have liked it on Sundays too but with Vera and Lewis set for April/May it looks unlikely.

Some shows work with celebrities, some don't. Masterchef is a good example where the format works well with the public and celebrities.

Novelli and Rhodes was a mistake because neither are exactly angry chefs like Ramsay, I think had they got MPW earlier, it would lasted a bit longer although IMO Marco's isn't likeable enough for television compared to the likes of Ramsay, Heston and Jamie.

There hasn't been a chef or cook that the public warms to in the same way they did with Delia, Jamie and Nigella.

Wall to Wall news is important in a big event such as the earthquakes but I imagine after a while viewers get sick of it and tune into something else. I imagine The Royal Wedding will be like although I imagine the evening schedules will remain intact.

It seems to have levelled out but especially with at 8pm slot and no Idol lead-in, we'll start to see y-o-y declines. Which is a shame because the last few episodes (US pace) have really picked up, loved the most recent one.

The Good Wife skewed exceptionally old on Tuesday night. Just 22% of its audience were aged 18-49 compared to 50% for Parenthood. NCIS was 27% and NCIS:LA was 28% and both of those are generally regarded as skewing old.

Basically, The Good Wife is like Heartbeat!

Although The Good Wife is critically acclaimed and brings in (rare) awards for broadcast networks. Given network execs love of hearing their names in acceptance speeches and boozy nights out, The Good Wife has a fighting chance!

We hear less about "social class" measures, though. While ABC1 figures are often mentioned here, they tend to just crop up occasionally in the US (end of season press releases and so on). Obviously they don't do class systems but their equivalents are "Adults 18-49 with annual household income of $100,000 or more" and "Adults 18-49 with 4 or more years college education". Glee is a dream because it skews so young (54%) and has one of the highest income audiences as well. I would have guessed that The Good Wife has a fairly affluent audience but I couldn't be sure.

I still like the show but they need to keep it fresh especially as the cast aren't going to stick around forever. Wonder if they'll do a Skins and replace the cast although gradually rather than at once and keep the adult characters like Shue and Sue.

Glee must make a mint for FOX in Merchandise and the tours although I don't see it being a show you could repeat over and over.

I think the repeat ratings have been surprisingly strong considering it's serialised. Obviously not as solid as comedy or procedurals but enough that they got a lot of money for the syndication rights on Oxygen. They do quite a few self contained stories and there's the music side as well which probably helps. Incidentally, they did a marathon on Superbowl weekend and seemed pretty pleased with the ratings. Whether or not that will last over time, I'm not sure because some of the music is current hits.

Seeing as there was discussion of WWE ratings earlier, worth noting that on Monday night, WWE Raw posted its best numbers in quite a while with 5.9m viewers over 2 hours. Its 2.1 rating at 9pm tied FOX and comfortably beat NBC and at 10pm, its 2.2 rating again beat NBC. The show usually gets around a 1.7 or 1.8 rating. WWE Raw airs on USA network, owned by NBC Universal.

The music is probably what is going to date it but they do mix classics with chart toppers. As long as the demo's still in the low 4s/high 3s it's pretty safe.

as for RAW, it probably helps that there was no American Pickers or Pawn Stars.

Yes, and in 2006 it began on Easter Saturday 15th April, and that was for thirteen weeks and it did alright for itself. And that was a bloody hot spring as well. Now the Beeb doesn't have the FA Cup a January launch is less of a problem - when Who started they often used to just stick films on the sport-free Saturdays in January - but the Six Nations remains an immovable object.

Channel 9 have confirmed they've axed Ben Elton's new comedy show after three episodes.Live from Planet Earth started with 455,000 viewers and by the third episode had fallen to 188,000.Elton now lives in Australia.The show received a barrage of criticism and was scheduled to run for six episodes but 9 executives pulled the plug after three.

Zen has gone but the Accused gets a second series. Not just about ratings....

But Stephenson said: “Many factors go into the process of recommissioning on BBC1, and although the first series rated modestly, we feel it has potential to find a broader audience.” He added that the series was “unique” on British TV.

The decision is the latest in a series of big calls by Stephenson and Cohen. Period drama Lark Rise To Candleford has been dropped, while flagging Kudos drama Outcasts has been moved from its peak Monday/Tuesday 9pm slot to Sundays at 10:25pm, after ratings nearly halved in a week.

Cohen and Stephenson also opted not to bring back Left Bank detective series Zen, which had averaged 5.7 million viewers and an AI of 87.

Stephenson said: “We are very proud of the first series, but have a lot of good scripts coming through, which we are excited about. It’s never an easy decision, but ultimately we had to ask whether we should not progress one of those in order to bring back Zen, and decided not to.”

But Stephenson stressed there was “no particular strategic message to take away from these decisions”, adding there were no plans to “take a scythe” to the schedule.

In conjunction with the Writers Guild, Garnett will offer practical advice and third-party guidance externally to the BBC. Thanks rzt. Another solid Wednesday for BBC1 with a 4m+ line up across the night. The factual/drama/factual schedule seems to work well and WR is holding surprisingly stable with a loyal 4.5m audience.

Good night for ITV. Emmerdale will be over 8m tapechecked and I'm hoping for two fantastic episodes tonight with another storyline reveal.

The Real Kings Speech did well, as expected due to the huge popularity of the film, but the Model Agency didn't get off to the best start and I thin Ch4 need to stay away from these beauty related shows for the most part.

Pretty big drop for Starlight surprisingly, but the rest of the schedule held up and another 2m rating for NCIS which seems to have picked up in recent weeks.

Channel 5 reportedly now wants to do their own Gypsy reality show:

Very good numbers for Madagascar and MasterChef as usual. Wednesdays on the BBC are pretty strong at the moment even on football nights where it thrives as an alternative.

Over on C4, a pretty mixed bag there really. But Model Agency bombed as expected. Awful rating for a series opener, especially given the very decent lead-in from The Real King's Speech which did do well.

And on my network of choice C5, except for the surprisingly low Starlight rating, it was a pretty good night for them. NCIS is still doing the business, even against Man United. Next week Cowboy Builders enters repeats, will be interesting to see if viewers actually notice.
