Does anyone have any recent ratings from the 5pm slot?
C14E
10-02-2011
ABC:
8pm – The Middle – 8.84m (2.6)
8.30pm – Better With You – 6.78m (2.0)

* Despite stronger lead-in, unchanged from last rating

CBS:
8pm – Live To Dance – 4.81m (0.9)
* Series finale
* Series low
9pm – Criminal Minds – 14.32m (3.7)
* Up 16% from last original episode
* Down 3% from same night last year
10pm – Blue Bloods – 12.45m (2.3)
* Last episode in Wednesday timeslot

FOX:
8pm – American Idol – 23.67m (8.3)

* #1 show of the week among A18-49 & viewers
9pm – Human Target – 8.30m (2.4)
* 29% retention from American Idol

NBC:
8pm – Minute To Win It – 6.07m (1.8)
* Improved time period performance by 20% vs last year
* Down 25% from last week’s highs
10pm – Law & Order: SVU – 8.09m (2.6)
* Won timeslot among adults 18-49
* Down 10% from last week

NETWORKS:
#1 – FOX – 5.3 – 15.99m DOWN 12% among A18-49 from same night last year
#2 – ABC – 2.8 – 8.40m UP 8%
#3 – CBS – 2.3 – 10.53m DOWN 30%
#4 – NBC – 2.1 – 6.74m UP 31%

Tvbythenumbers

Last year NBC had Mercy at 8pm and repeats of SVU until 11pm, hence the major increase. CBS were hit by Blue Bloods being 36% lower than CSI: NY and Live To Dance being 61% lower than the already poor numbers for CBS’ axed comedy block last year.

Are those figures good enough for Blue Bloods to get a renewal? Would have thought so and enjoying it on Sky Atlantic so hope so.

I imagine they are trying to boost HD uptake via such a method as they make so much money out of it these days.

Not condoning Sky over this as I know how their HD push can be annoyiong.

But the BBC are a public service broadcaster not a shareholder driven market force and were once providing superb HD that even forced Sky to do better.

Now ITV beats the Beeb (compare Coronation Street in HD versus East Enders in HD).

Which is sad.

BBC don't release their BBC1 HD figures publicly, so that may not be true.

I don't think the Wednesday numbers will matter too much. At that level it certainly won't be moving there permanently.

In its regular Friday slot, it did fractionally better than CSI: NY up to Christmas so it's definitely in with a shot at renewal on Friday nights.

Very good start for Mr Sunshine - they really need a few of these new scripted shows to come through and become hits, especially with Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy ageing.

So is Mr Sunshine sharing the timeslot with Cougar Town? C14E- has ABC indicated which one will keep that timeslot next season if both are renewed for 24 episodes?

I think Jaycee was talking about picture quality, not ratings.

I don't actually think you can put a link to that because the suggestion which often comes up is TV Burp at Tuesday 8pm which is very different to a 9:30pm slot (starting half-way through most programmes) with ITV's notoriously low-rated post-match football as a lead-in. Poor rating for it yesterday though.

Ah, yes - apologies.

Mind you, even if SD, EastEnders looks poorer than Corrie.

A soapstar has gone to Hollywood and actually landed a job! Neighbours Margot Robbie is one of the stewardesses in ABC's pilot period drama, Pan-Am.

JJ Abrams is getting over the disappointment of Undercovers pretty quickly. In addition to the early pick up of Alcatraz by FOX, he has another pilot just ordered by CBS. Persons of Interest is a drama about a CIA paramilitary officer, presumed dead, who is recruited by a reclusive billionaire to wage war against violent criminals in New York City.

It's now getting quite late in the day and most pilots have been ordered and are chasing actors and directors but there are probably still more to come.

Pilot Orders So Far:
ABC - 10 comedies & 15 dramas
CBS - 9 comedy & 7 dramas
FOX - 8 comedies & 6 dramas
NBC - 12 comedies & 10 dramas

2 UK remakes are among them - FOX are having a second shot at Outnumbered and ABC have ITV Studios Identity.

The CW has completed its pilot orders, once again picking up 6 dramas. Continuing last years theme, they've been a bit broader than the days of "rich kids in nice places".

They have a couple of legal dramas (one with supernatural plots), one cop show, one medical drama from Josh Schwartz starring Rachel Bilson, one zombie show and a witch drama which is being Exec Produced by Kevin Williamson, showrunner on The Vampire Diaries.

CW Pilots @ The Futon Critic

As has been the case for a few years, ABC & NBC are looking for the most hours.

The strength of CBS development season will determine how many of their existing shows they axe. They'll usually ditch their lowest rated sitcom (currently Sh*t My Dad Says) and clear a few slots for new drama.

Cougar Town has already been renewed.

For now, it's off until 20th April while Mr Sunshine has its 13 episode run. I think there's a good chance of it dropping significantly in its second episode (I've only seen the trailer but it looked poor) and it's going to air after Modern Family repeats on a few occasions in March & April. Plus, Idol is 2 hours next week which won't help.

I think if Mr Sunshine does well, ABC will launch a new comedy hour (something which I think they've said they'd like to do). But it's hard to say what would move into it.

The biggest surprise can be found further down that link - they're bringing back Roger & Val for a second series.

Notice STV have not changed their position on Benidorm then.

Not showing the new series with ITV1 from Friday 25th Feb. STV viewers get Football Years : World Cup 1974 instead.

They need to ensure a decent regular repeat slot for the first two series first as well.

Yesterday's demographics: http://i56.tinypic.com/2mws8yt.jpg

Yesterday in the 5pm slot:

The Weakest Link - BBC1 - 1.91m
Antiques Roadrip - BBC2 - 2.62m
The Chase - ITV1 (exc. HD) - 2.66m
Come Dine with Me - CH4 - 2.12m
Five News at 5 - CH5 - 0.85m

The Chase still #1 in the slot but Antiques Roadtrip has been surging these past few days and is getting extremely close to it. For a direct comparison between the two, by the way, Chase averaged 2.85m (exc. HD) between 5.15-6pm (time Antiques Roadtrip was on air).

Yeah, having read the comments on TV By the Numbers, a lot of people thought it was "okay" but not great so I agree that it'll probably drop off a lot in the next few weeks.

Looks like a poor opt-out. Will most likely knock-off a few hundred thousand from the overnights and that's a potential ~8% off the officials for Benidorm.

Thank you

Looking at BARB figures its Challenge's highest rated show in a looooooooong time.

Wonder how it did in comparison to other Digital shows at 10pm?

History have ordered a second season of Top Gear (USA). While its overall numbers weren't great, it apparently had the youngest audience of any series ever broadcast on History.

Talking of HD and ratings, as I do from time to time, Danielle Nagler the head of BBC HD has Tweeted that they estimate between 25-27% of homes get BBC HD.

She also said "BARB I believe lags by a lot".

The low BBC HD/ITV1 HD figures we get, supports that.

BARB says Millionaire got 111,000 on Friday 31st December 2010. So it's Challenge's highest rated in show in a month and a bit.

Anybody know of any good jobs going in the Glasgow area. For some reason I fancy relocating.

Time for BBC1 to let BBC2 have Weakest Link back, methinks. They could sign up Antiques Roadtrip and Pointless to help bridge the gap. (And maybe even The Smug Gits* as well)

But they showed the Christmas special!?

I don't know why I'm expecting common sense from STV though...

I'm expecting 1.5m+ in the officials. Maybe 8-900,000 in the overnights.
