Isn't that what they are doing at the moment, a bit of both? They won't move it for films, but they have in the past year for Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Coronation Street: The Big 50, The Millies, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, James Corden's World Cup Live and Popstar to Opera Star.

Personally I think starting a half hour news bulletin in the middle of a movie is just as irritating as if they had done it during any of the above programmes. They do it with films because they feel they are more likely to get away with it ratings wise. And that is wrong.

IIRC James Corden's World Cup generally switched to ITV4 at 10pm so the news could come on. Fair point about the rest, though: they seem to have an aversion to moving it for films compared to other programmes for some reason.

Yeah, if they just made their minds up one way or another I wouldn't be so critical. After all, the news is either fixed or it isn't! But it seems to be one rule for films and one rule for other programmes.

The biggest laugh I have is they split the film around the news on Saturday's - the news doesn't even have a fixed slot on Saturday's! They should just air it after Take Me Out then run the film in one go.

Can't believe no one commented on the Mad Dogs rating. Very good. Its around 300,000 up on last weeks, brilliant rating to end the series.

Always brilliant for Celebrity Juice, but OUCH for Skins again, which are losing their audience dramatically.

I think that's a ratings ploy though, as they possibly expect most people not to stick around for the film if they run the news first, but they still have to air the news before a certain time - hence the split.

I agree it's irritating though and would rather they did it your way.

Does anyone have the official average for Skins 5? For some reason the BARB website isn't working for me.

It's interesting in that report to see mention of Linda Green, which was deemed as a series which never quite found its audience. However, 5.9m these days would be seen as a strong rating!

Interestingly, Marchlands was based on the US show, The Oaks, which never got past the pilot episode.

Might as well milk it for all it's worth. But it won't get 8m viewers that day I suspect - holidays, a Friday, royal wedding overkill. It will get rather "lost" that day, same as it would if it airs at Christmas.

Exactly - C4 need to give it a rest and build up anticipation for the next series rather than crowbarring in 'specials' at every inappropriate opportunity.

Although ITV News will do well with no BBC opposition. Still don't get why the 10pm news is moved - doesn't really seem necessary (although the Comic Relief listings is worryingly reading like a Children in Need night at the moment). As usual too BBC schedule the live part of the show to end around 1am, when in reality it rarely wraps up before 2am.


It's too good an opportunity to miss, though might be better airing the Thursday before. It would do OK though on a Friday, especially as both the BBC and ITV have long given up doing anything special for Easter so at worst it'll probably be head to head with highlights of the Royal Wedding.

The original reason ITV gave for moving NAT was to allow them to start adult films at 9 pm and maximise advertising revenue (rather than split the films in two and lose about 50% of the audience after 10.30). On weekdays a significant proportion of the ITV audience had to go to work the following day (and still do presumably).NAT does still sometimes start around 10.15 pm when there is a big football match. I can't see any of those factors apply to the BBC in moving their bulletin.

The extra 8.30 episode of Coronation St was only supposed to be a temporary measure in 2002, but has remained more or less in place since. Also the way it seems to get moved around is a pain for the fans. A lot of people would much rather have the show shown at 7.30 three nights a week.

Half saw a Daily Sport headline with some kind of reference to the Top Gear team moving to ITV. It was sharing top billing I think with a pair of breasts.

Although the report actually appears to say "ITV bosses have been given £25m to boost programming budgets, and top of the list is an attempt to lure Clarkson, Hammond, May to ITV".

So a bit of a non-story. If they won't even move from BBC2 to BBC1 for fear of dumbing-down, I think we can rule out a move to ITV!

Yes, 2nd repeats of New Tricks on Friday at 9.00 and repeats of Motorway Cops on Monday at 9.00. Certainly seems to be scraping the barrel time at the BBC, especially in the winter season.

Agreed, and if they did go it could only be for one reason. A chunk of ITV's 300 million pound profit.
