Got an Azura DVD player but the sound is very poor, have to turn the TV to full volume to hear films, we also have 2 other Azura's on other TV's in the house and these are fine. The one I'm having trouble with is connected to a Panasonic TV. I have a Sky box also connected and a VCR, 2 scart sockets on the back of set one with the DVD connected directly and the other with the Sky box and the VCR connected to the back of the Sky Box. if that makes sense. I've tried switching the scart sockets round on the back of the set but it doesn't improve. I have noticed that one of the scart sockets has extra pins in it for a Panasonic VCR connection (which we have not got) would this make any difference. Any ideas anybody, at the moment I've also had to connect the DVD to the HiFi so we can hear it, any tips gratefully received

From oldie. Have you tried one of the "working" Azuras with the Panasonic TV? Is it OK? Have you tried the "non-working" Azura direct into the Panasonic TV, i.e not via the Sky box? Have you tried the "non working" Azura into one of the TVs that does work? I doubt if the extra pins on the SCART socket would affect the audio. I expect they are for the RGB connections. Try swapping the SCART leads, too. You may have a duff one.
Try various combinations and keep notes. You may find a common thread to enable you to find the faulty component. Have fun!

One possibility. The earth wire might have come off the SCART lead connecting the DVD to the TV, or the contact in the plug has got bent or pushed in so is no longer making contact.

When you do crank up the volume does it sound OK apart from being quiet? If the earth has gone you are likely to get a very thin sould lacking in bass and probably barely audible dialogue.

When you say you have moved the SCART leads around I assume you left the leads plugged in to the DVD/Sky box and simply plugged the DVD into both SCART 1 and SCART 2 on the TV? So why not try leaving the SCART's plugged into the back of the telly and swaping the connections in the back of the DVD and Sky box. If the Sky box is now inaudible and the DVD is fine then chuck the lead away and get yourself a new one!

Also bear in mind DVDs do have a much bigger dynamic range than other systems, like Set Top Boxes, VCRs, consoles etc. Meaning the overall volume level can sound a little low compared to the other things you have on the TV. Still there is no way you should need the volume full. Sounds like there is a problem somewhere. Have you checked the DVD player settings are correct e.g. that it hasnt been set to use the digital output or something?

Also even when you do get it working i would keep it connected to the HiFi anyway as DVDs offer excellent audio quality and TV speakers will definately not give the best listening experience.

Thanks for that, the DVD is connected directly to the DVD, so I think I'll get another lead and give that a try, it's rather daunting as all the equipment is in one unit and it's like spaghetti junction at the back, so the easiest option is to try another lead and if it doesn't work at least I'll have a spare thanks once again all

I've just thought too that when it is first switched on the picture flickers and is grey it takes a few seconds to turn blue so it sounds like a poor connection somewhere doesn't it?

Quite possibly i know on my DVD Player the picture flickered into and out of a greenish tint occasionally. It turned out the SCART lead had worked a little lose on the DVD Player end. It's worth checking this if you have not already. It tends to happen mostly if you use a thick or heavy SCART cable as the weight can loosen it over time

Now I'm really pulling my hair out, I've tried a different DVD player a new scart lead, I've tried moving the scart leads between the sockets on the back and still no better. I know that the scart socket I'm currently connected to is working ok as I have the Sky and VCR connected to it, I bought a good scart lead thinking that would fix it and another make of DVD player, it's a Panasonic Nicam TV about 4 years old can anyone help me it's driving me nuts
