Unfortunatlly the powers that be do not see burgalary or theft as a crime worth looking into, unless you are very rich. They seem to view driving a car a much bigger crime, but thats another story.
A friend of mine got burgaled a couple of months ago, they came home from a night out and found the house turned upsidedown. TV, video, dvd, PC etc all gone, they phoned the police to report it also telling them that when they broke the window to get in they cut themselves and there was blood everywhere. Also there were footprints in the flowerbed under the window and several bloody fingerprints around the place.
The police said they would get someone round immediatlly 8 hours and several phone calls later no one had arrived, surprise, surprise. Another friend phoned the local paper to tell them what had happened and 30 minutes later the police turned up in force. There were two police cars with both uniformed and CID and two SOCO vans.
They caught one of the people but did not recover any goods. The case went to court a month later, which is very very quick and because it was his first offence he got 150 hours community service and ordered to pay £250 compensation.
As the expression goes, going to hell in a handcart.
