BBC1 South East Red Dot Won't Go Away
Automan
09-02-2011
It seems the BBC 1 South East keep sending whatever signal to make the red dot/dog come back on.

Or is it just me?

Edit:
Seems Not http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1435155

It is the same on BBC 2 England, BBC 3 & 4

Also on HD BBC Channels.

I could watch it in timeslip but then I will get the subtitle bug

Indeed it does! - Thanks for the tip.

Is this going to be a permanent change to the red button dog?

If so I don't like it and always found it a pain on Freeview having to press the green rather than auto timeout.

Not good for some Plasma TV's also.

I noticed this red button message yesterday whilst using the HDR with BBC channels. The "press red" top right is there continuously and if I press "exit" - yes it goes away but returns after 5 seconds.
Sometimes I get "iplayer" with a red dot as I am connected to the internet.
Why the change?
I too have posted on the Red Button blog mentioned above.
I looked at freeview with my 9200T and the red dot message goes away after pressing green or after a certain time as it used to do on freesat.

Well, there would be no point as it wouldn't work!

I agree, though. There should be an option to completely disable the feature if you do not wish to use it,

Fortunately I hardly ever watch live so it doesn't really affect me.

There is on the humax boxes

Menu > system > diagnostics > press ok > Red green yellow blue green yellow blue > scroll down to 'MHEG Test' and disable it.

Thanks.

I'm going to do that now as last time I chanced upon a programme that I started to watch live the red button thing was driving me nuts for several minutes because I so rarely watch live I'd forgotten how to temporarily turn it off.

Won't that disable all interactive services - not just the "press red" message?

yep! as Jepson says it useful to disable it temporarily to avoid the distraction it causes when it's behaving erratically as demonstrated recently.

According to the BBC Blog they have changed the timeout values back....

Quote:
“On the non-timing out press red icons, we've recently released a tool on Freesat that enables us to swap and change them easily. The original configuration was set for the icons to time out after 10800 seconds (also known as three hours) and you're right, that's just a bit long for most situations. We've tweaked the configuration to make it just a few hours shorter! The icons should now time out after 30 seconds or less.”

My box is not on so I don't know if it is fixed.
