I don't mind charging it all night then starting again at night every day.
But today took the biscuit, I charged it all last night, took out charger at 7am on full. By 11am when I had my first break (I work in a school), it was on half. I texted my husband twice, that's it, nothing else. By 12.20pm, it was flashing charge battery, battery was on red and the lower half of the phone was hot! Then within 5 mins, it completely died! I can't see the point of this phone, beautiful yes, useless a bigger YES! I have a HD. I charge it in an evening, then I generally mess with it for half an hour or so in bed surfing and messing with apps/games etc. Then it lasts me all the next day, and I have livewallpaper, I have my emails on push, I have my twitter and facebook updating, I have the weather/clock widget, calender widget, poweramp widget, I send lots of sms and whatsapp messages during the day and Im still on about half or just under when I get home from work that night. On the odd occasion when Ive forgot to charge it, it usually gets me through most of the next day too. |

There is a serious fault with your phone then!

My husband thinks it must be a faulty batch, and I've just gone beyond caring what's wrong with it anymore. Maybe it wasn't meant to be, I should have stuck to my BB. |

Does sound to me like there is a fault with the handset or battery itself as any smartphone should get through the day with some light to moderate use. My iPhone 4 is currently sitting on 18% battery having been took off charge about 9am. According to my usage stats it's been used for 5 hours 45 minutes and been off charge for 12 hours.
The presence of a fault gives you a lot more argument with CPW as again you should be using phrases like "sale of goods act" and "not fit for purpose". Though if you have really had enough of the phone don't let them fob you off with another swap |

You know, reading all this makes me sooo glad I went for a Blackberry in the end - I was recently looking round for a 'smartphone' - previously I just had a Nokia 6303 - obviously quite old hat now, but a decent enough phone with a good battery life.
Battery life, was in fact, my number one priority - talked to loads and loads of people who all told me that they had to charge their smartphones once per day - sometimes with minimal use. That alone was enough to completely put me off these type of phones fullstop! So, in the end, I went for the Blackberry Bold 9780. Brilliant little phone - quite a steep learning curve though, coming from an oldschool Nokia - but - and here's the big "but" - the battery on this, with fairly moderate usage last week lasted exactly.....one week! Brilliant! At last. A phone I am happy with - fairly decent camera - good applications etc..etc... ok - it may not be all singing all dancing like iphone etc... but give me this phone anyday over something you have to charge up everyday! |

I've told him not to accept anything less than a cancellation. He's aware of the distance selling that you mentioned. I will have no phone tomorrow but that won't make any difference cos this phone is shite anyway. |

There's a battery "status" page within settings which could tell you what seems to be draining the battery life.
There had seemed to be some kind of bug, which could be fixed by turning on USB debugging which would also improve battery life. |

I surprised no one has suggested or asked this yet. How good is the mobile signal in your area and place of work?
I have an HTC Hero and when at home the battery can last me a couple of days with average usage because I have a good signal. At work I have a poor signal and when it's in my bag or pocket it sometimes looses it. When this happens the phone is searching for a signal again which drains the battery. So by the end of an average work day it's down to 40%. This is what could be happening to your phone? I know the Desire HD has battery issues, but most people can make it last till the late evening before plugging it in. If your now on your third phone and it still doesn't last to lunch time either your doing something, having something running on it which drains it or it's a poor signal. |

But that doesn't explain the weekends when it's done the same thing, signal's very strong where I live. EDIT - 2 handsets it's happened to, 1st handset I broke a piece trying to get battery cover off. |

I have 5 widgets set to auto sync every hour i have live wallpaper and am always sending texts and surfing the net at work (hope the boss is not watching) and i can quite easily get 24 hours before it needs a charge. However one thing i did do was manually turned the screen brightness down to about 1/4 of the way and that saves so much power it is unreal. I also changed the auto screen shut off to 1 minute from 2 which again saves a lot of power. |

I love my Motorola Defy.
I was going to get a Desire but the sales man said it had a poor battery life and that he had to buy a different battery to get better battery life compared to the battery that came with the phone. |

I would class myself as a heavy user on the Desire HD.

I must admit I'm still getting on fine with my LG KS360 :...
I suppose I will get a smartphone sometime but I'd prefer one with a keypad and there are quite a few of those around these days. I had one a while. Free to unlock too. |

I called CW after work and went through the whole situation with them and I kept saying to the girl that I do have a right to cancel my upgrade and she kept saying no as the sim had been used. I said of course the sim had been used, it was in the faulty handsets your shop kept giving me. She goes away and speaks to her "manager" and said the only deal they could for me was called a tariff and variation aka in their lingo as tar and var. This means if a phone matches up to my tariff and variation then I could choose that phone but she couldn't tell me what phones they were?!! She assured me that head office had my back should there be any problems. Not my concern is....what if this tar and var only matches up to other androids of which I don't want for the next 2 yrs, what the hell do I do now?

![]() Anyway if I were you I would go to your local shop and get a demo of an iPhone or WP7 phone so you have a comparison. Now you know what you dont like, it should be an easier conversation to have with the sales staff.

Charging once a day is perfectly acceptable these days
As I say, I understand that's often the way with the new generation of smartphones, but it wouldn't be for me.... plus - you can't beat a proper physical keyboard if you do alot of emails/texts etc.. !! |

Mine's always been fine, but I've read elsewhere that some have a software fault where-by there's an "INIT" process running in the background, slowing down the CPU and using up the battery. There's a workaround (something about USB debugging), and a software update that fixes it properly. |

Just a thought if you have issues with CW on getting a replacement, ensure the phone they offer is at least the same value as a Desire HD!! If you want the same form factor then ask for a HTC HD7, which is a WP7 phone. I am surprised you cant get an iPhone4 on your deal - perhaps ebay the HD and pay the difference
