I'm watching a recorded prog on the HDR last night. Gets to the ads, I fast forward. Before the next part starts, the box switches into live tv, as if I'd ff'd to the end of the recording. Look at the play bar, and it's showing the recording length as 29 min. Look at the Media list and it confirms the correct length: 75 min. Try again, go back a few minutes, ff through the ads, and again, it switches to live. So I've somehow lost the rest of the recording, but the Media list doesn't think so? Then I notice that the play bar is now showing 32 min. So I try playing from 31 min, and it carries on playing, past 32 min and up to the next break. At which point I ff through the ads and the whole performance starts again, with the play bar now showing the total length as 48 min. Go back a bit, press play, and watch the rest of the prog.

Does this make any sense at all? The manual says nothing about the time at the far right of the play bar ever showing anything but full recording length. I've had the HDR for a week, and if it's a fault, I might not have spotted it before because I've only watched BBC progs, so haven't tried to skip.

That's a new one on me .

Try using the skip keys to miss the ads, press the forward one (above blue) till you get to the end of the ads (by default it's +2 mins/push) or overshoot. If you overshoot back up using minus skip (above yellow - default -15 sec).

Just out of interest could you say which HDR/PVR you have and what the programme was that you recorded and when.

Are you holding the Fast Forward button down when doing this?. Have a feeling it goes to live broad cast when you do this. As opposed to multiple button pushes which increase the FF or Rewind speed.

It sounds to me as if you are watching a programme that is still recording.

This is exactly the behaviour you get - and, indeed what you would expect - if you do that and catch up with the live transmission.

The 'duration' on the info bar keep going up as more is recorded but the 'media list' displays the expected duration from the EPG (less any delay if you did not record from the beginning).

Thanks all, for the help, think I have it now! Looking at the Media list this morning, I noticed that the prog in question was recorded last night . . . which is odd, because I recorded it a few days ago. Checked the schedules, and by coincidence, the same prog was being shown last night again. It started shortly after I started watching the recorded version. So I'm guessing that I somehow got into live, possibly by holding down the ff as suggested, and from then on was looking at the timeshift recording that I was making, hence the changing total duration time. (Before anyone asks if I'm that dull that I didn't notice the lack of continuity, in my defence, it was a music prog and I wasn't familiar with all the songs!)

The thing that I don't follow, though, is how the recording came to be replaced - the original recording is not in the media list, just one dated yesterday - presumably the timeshift.

Really appreciate all the help here - can I ask one more thing, please? The manual says you can jump to a specific point in a recording by entering the time via the number pad and pressing OK. I get no response when I do that - is there more to it than just that? I get a box with the number I've entered, above the RH side of the play bar, but no reaction otherwise.

Assuming it's a foxsat-hdr, the original episode you set the recording from may not have been broadcast or it caused a recording clash at the time and you may have just accepted the alternate instance. If you use the skip keys as posted watching a programme in chasing playback you can't skip past the end of the limits of the current recording. If you had been tuned to the same channel as the ongoing recording then on dropping back to real time you would have realised you were watching an ongoing recording. Pressing schedule identifies which recordings are currently under way, after recording is complete the schedule should update to the next instance if it's within the epg reach (8 days).

To use direct time code entry don't forget the leading zeros, eg 0035 for 35 mins, 0125 for 1hr 25 mins (format hhmm)

Timeshift - pausing a live recording - does not put an entry in the media list.

The box clearly did not record the first occurrence of the programme but was recording the second one that was transmitting as you watched it. That is why you observed what you did as explained in post #5.

It is a foxsat-hdr. And I'm happy to know that I'm at fault, because of my lack of knowledge, and that the box is ok. (I'm 98% certain that the earlier recording did exist, because I'd seen it in the Media list any number of times through the week. Also I'd have been pretty surprised to see it in the schedule list, because I was unaware that there was a repeat. But I'll put it down to unfamiliarity - I do want to like the HDR, honest!)

Successfully jumped to a time by including the leading zeros, thanks. Great user manual, but Humax might consider not using white ink for some of the sections in the next revision . . . . . or should I not mention updates . . . ?

If it recorded both it's usually down to a screw up by the broadcaster in the crid's (content reference identifiers) caused by them using the same crid for the series code and a different crid for the programme crid. This makes any freesat+ (or freeview+) box assume it's a different episode.
