I had to un-plug and re-plug the receiver back in for it to receive epg data, the channels then started to work again.

One thing to note, before I unplugged the receiver and plugged it back in was I went and checked the signal strength which indicated 100% strong, yet there was no epg data or channels, so that's when I reset the box and the epg data and channels came back on.

The problem was, it was around lunch time when we seen then problem, so all the morning shows that were set to record, didn't record .

Auto-Standby is turned off, yes.

This "problem" only happened for the past 2 nights/mornings, but not today, so I'm guessing they must be finished working on the transmitter.

Sorry if I've confused you, feel free to ask me as many questions as you like.

I'm doing my best to be as specific as possible for you.
Hi,

No criticism intended from the fact that I'm confused .. it happens a lot and it is generally not the fault of the person with whom I am communicating!

Is there any strong reason for you turning off autostandby? As was discussed here a few threads ago, entry to standby gives the box the chance to "tidy up" .. and it is likely to get less reliable if it isn't put into standby for a while.

There have been a couple of reports here of symptoms similar to those you describe. Those reports have linked the problem to waking the box up while it is recording .. but we've never been able to make it happen and that makes it next to impossible to fix.

Update, I checked the aerial in the loft, there was nothing untoward to be seen. I checked all the connections. Re-tuned the box and still the same.
Checked all the connections again, re-tuned, no change.
Re-booted the box, re-tuned and got all the missing channels back!!!
Thanks for all the help. Harmony has been restored.

If you've had no problems from this aerial in this house for six months then it can't be temporary weather conditions. If the aerial is in the loft then probably not a seagull/water/wind.

Might be worth re-tuning to see if this was a temporary glitch that has gone away.

Other that that, the smart money is still on the aerial/lead. Check the connection to the box and to the wall. I'm assuming if you haven't seen the aerial then you haven't been in the loft and shoved a suitcase infront of it. No chance you've stuck a nail through the lead somehwere? Has anyone built a multi-story block of flats next door?

Sorry to be flippant .. check the connections and re-tune .. poke your head in the loft to see if you can seen any problems there. Is the reception on Film4 ok? .. that should be about the same signal strength as E4+1 but is on a different frequency.

Hi Tim,

I will switch the auto standby back on to see how things go,

are you on track with the bug-fix in regards to the recordings?

Hi Dean,

I suspect that putting stuff in the loft probably moved the aerial slightly off line .. it may be working today because of good reception conditions .. in which case the problem will re-occur. If it does, try to re-allign the loft aerial.

Yup. We'll also add in a couple of features requested here as a nice bonus.

Well update on the SD and HD sound issue... I have changed loads of settings on the tv to see if this was the issue and I can confirm this is not the case - what I can confirm is that the HD channels remain much quiter than the SD through the box

Are you saying you dont think the box is at fault here ? I have a second freeview hd box - sagemcom -and there is no difference in SD or HD volume through that box

I don't know if its a fault, all I know is that the hd channels on both my Sony tv and tvonics box are quieter than the sd channels, so I assumed that was normal

You may find the number you are looking for here

http://www.saynoto0870.com using the search term TVonics

I am not sure why the 0870 number is no longer on the official TVonics website, so you might like to ask when you get through.

If it happens again perhaps try a different HDMI cable and/or a different HDMI input on the TV?

No luck, I'm afraid. I've tried changing the cable, changing the HDMI socket used, unplugging other attached equipment, resetting the box, retuning the box, unplugging and refitting each of the various cables and even moving the box to a different position. Still, the problem returns. At the moment, it's like the TV is being hit by lightning every few seconds - there is a crack and, sometimes, the screen also goes blue for a few seconds. The service is unwatchable when it's like this. To be frank, I'm getting pretty close to returning the box the the shop for a refund.

I have just bought a TVonics DTR-Z500HD after 8 months of purgatory with the heap that is the Philips HDT8520.

If the TVonics box can record 2 things at once without throwing a Joey, locking up and needing the power lead to be pulled out ill be delighted.

Right the box has arrived and I have to say it's instantly likable only problems are the HD volume is much quieter than the SD volume (which I can see is known about) and I can't get my One For All remote to learn all the TVonics functions. Is this a known thing, is it my remote that's outdated or do TVonics use some obscure frequencies that the remote can't handle?

I know Tim will get back to you on his return.

Would it be possible to leave the One For All remote aside for now and programme TV Functionality into your TVonics remote as a temporary measure?

The TVonics remote turns my tv on and off and alters the volume without any programming which is surprising as it's a hannspee tv, the function to change the tv input however doesn't work so I can't get the PS3 on although I could go through the box using the switch I guess

To achieve equal audio level on SD and HD, use your TVonics remote, press Menu -> Settings -> Dolby Settings -> Dynamic Range Control, then scroll left/right, select TV Mode.

BTW I frequently use my box (same software as yours) to record two programmes at once. I've had my TVonics STB since March 2011, it has never crashed while recording two programmes at the same time.

Enjoy your new toy!
