I have tuned the EB1 test transmission of CH4-HD using non-freesat mode on a Foxsat-hdr

Starting an instant recording appears to work fine, however when you stop recording you get the can't save a recording of less than 30 secs (The recording was over 3 mins).


Since this is the first DVB-S2 channel available to a hdr does this mean that there is a bug that has been present since day 1 ?

It would be ironic if we get C4HD after all this time only to find that the Humax will not be able to process it whilst acting in PVR mode.

Still, never mind, I'm sure they'll have it fixed in a year or so.

This is known - the number of secs depends on the disk buffer size - those of us who have inserted larger disks with big buffers notice it more. It's not much of a problem as who records < 1min? It exists on all channels and is not connected with DVB-S2.

There was never a problem with BBC-HD even at 17mbps. I will try a much longer recording. I recorded 2 mins of ITV1-HD Granada with no problems.

Live Pause does not work, no buffer built up, recording does not appear in media list even after 5 minutes, pressing info confirms recording in progress though

Only thing different that I can see is the non standard symbol rate and a S2 transponder and the lack of epg info (maybe the box does not know what to call the recording)

I wouldn't worry about - there's no service yet, once it actually launches all is VERY likely to be perfectly OK.

No one is supposed to be watching it, so why would they bother getting it completely right?.

Actually, that's quite a plausible reason.

It may just do a sanity check on the length of the title string and abandon the save if it's nil.

Wouldn't easily explain live pause not working, though.

Damnit, I wanted to record some of the films in HD tonight, but if it's not going to record them, what's the point... GRRRR!!!

That's exactly what I wanted to do . However don't take my word for it please try if only to confirm your box is the same as mine). I even set up a remote control with timed macro capability to start and stop recording

It is of course only a test transmission but intrigued to know why it's not recordable. All other test transmissions have been recordable.

The programme video and audio data is being stored on the HDD as the buffer but the problem is getting it to play back. Using raydons twonky upgrade it's possible to watch back via XBMC on my netbook but only at half speed and without audio. Anyhow I took delivery of a Technomate TM5402HD receiver this week and with a sky card inserted I can get that version and record it. In fact I can record the test version as well.

I did try recording the test earlier while Channel 4 Racing was on. Left it recording for a good 10 minutes but when I pressed stop it still flagged up that recordings under 30 seconds may not be stored. Nothing appeared in the media list neither. I'll just have to watch the films live then and record them next time they get shown. Ah well.

Does this mean they are going to be transmitting CHN4 HD twice?

One version for Sky boxes and another for Fressat boxes?

I have tried to record Ch4 HD and it would not record after 7 mins using the original 320GB HDD.

Confirmed Live pause will not work.

Other HD channels in Non-Freesat mode record/live pause OK. This includes STV HD which is not on freesat EPG.

Checking via ftp on my foxsat the ch4hd stream is being saved correctly into 0.ts which plays back normally on my pc.

well not on a Freesat box (but a french TNTHD Sat) and live pause (need to wait 30s to resume) and recording onto usb hard drive working well for me ...

I was wondering if perhaps they had already anticipated some technical problems on Freesat which is why they started test transmissions 6 weeks before launch. Normally these only start a week or two before. After all they have been running this channel through the $ky platform for over 3 years already so it is not like it is new and untested. They now have feedback from this forum amongst others and can tackle the issues in time for the startup .... (we hope ).

I have also found that Ch4HD is being recorded to the buffer (0.ts) and plays through XBMC.

I also tried an instant record and the 3 files are being saved to disk. Filename was 55300_20110213_1610.ts, as no programme name available the station number was used (55300). And this would also play through XBMC. But when I cancelled the recording after 15min the files were removed from the HDD.

I am able to record OK on the Technisat and the recordings are being stored OK. I set up to record from 8.15 am to 8.30am this morning. The down side with the Technisat is that it doesn't seem to have any facility to re-name channels but I will re-check this in the manual and downloaded PVR Guide. Picture quality Ist class on this box. Records fime on Technomate 6800. Both these receivers have 2.5 external HDD's

P.S. If anyone has succeeded in re-naming channels on this box passing this on would be appreciated.

ITV4 HD - Short lived - It was re-scramblen this am !!!

Glad to see this thread here as ive only just had my humax freesat box and this was the 1st non freesat channel I'd tried to record with the same result as others, thought I was doing something wrong. This is my 1st look at satellite tv for nearly 10 years when I used to use my old 1997 $ky pace box & mini dish to watch F1 on RTL and even Rai 1 in good weather.. Ice been out if it fit a while but the settings used to find 4hd did seem a bit strange, maybe the foxsat can't or won't record them, could the be testing a new system to block recordings of HD content?
