Glad to see this thread here as ive only just had my humax freesat box and this was the 1st non freesat channel I'd tried to record with the same result as others, thought I was doing something wrong. This is my 1st look at satellite tv for nearly 10 years when I used to use my old 1997 $ky pace box & mini dish to watch F1 on RTL and even Rai 1 in good weather.. Ice been out if it fit a while but the settings used to find 4hd did seem a bit strange, maybe the foxsat can't or won't record them, could the be testing a new system to block recordings of HD content?
There's no service yet for over a month, once it starts you WILL be able to record it - at the moment it doesn't 'exist', and no one is intended to be trying to watch it, or record it.

You have already been given a link to a different CH4 HD thread previously, so why dont you search for that and you may find your answer.
I will give you a clue - its in the FREESAT sub-forum

Why don't you go to the relevant thread as suggested and READ the recent posts there. You will then see that CH4 HD is currently NOT in the clear!!
I suggest it's you who should chill out.

EXACTLY my point. Thanks terrykl.
Too many people take the easy option of asking questions, without first searching for the answer that is almost always available already. Thats why we end up with multiple threads on the same topic making it even more difficult to find the right answer.

I have read through the forums now and (if my understanding is right) C4 HD will be broadcast on EB1 FTA until more narrowbeam capacity is available, if that isn't right i'm sure someone will correct me.

What dosen't appear clear from the threads is the potential temporary rights issues. Do people expect C4 to follow a similar path to C5 and not provide all programmes on the FTA feed?

Does it have an official date to go live and join the Freesat EPG?

EDIT:
I see the Freesat site just says April but no exact date.

Is it me does recording still not work on CH4HD? Using a foxsat-hdr and the latest beta.

The now and next info is in-place now, which was one of the potential reasons for it not working before.

Hopefully when it gets added to the EPG it'll work. (?)

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here Nigel as others have said they can record it. The problems seems to be Humax HDR specific.

Has anyone emailed Humax Technical support as this would appear to be the logical thing to do in the abscence of Bob Cat on here.

What would be the point?, emailing Humax support complaining you can't record a programme that hasn't launched yet is hardly going to raise any concerns.

There seems no reason to imagine it won't record once the service actually starts, and if there is some kind of 'problem' I would expect they are fully aware of it already.

Humax know about this problem.

Interesting - the next time it is FTA I'll tune it on my Panasonic TV and see if I can successfully record to the connected USB external hard drive.

I am also slightly surprised that Humax have never thought of testing the HDR with a DVB-S2 transponder. I would have thought that a company which specialises in set top boxes would have quite an extensive test facility which can generate a satellite signal (i.e. a number of transponders over a range of frequencies and both polarisations containing dummy broadcast data, EPG data etc). I know you can't beat real world testing but they should have some means of trying out unusual (not that DVB-S2 is unusual) transponder setups and simulate certain conditions (such as late changes to EPG data and even more unusual such as corrupt or missing EPG data) to make sure the equipment/firmware under test handles it as expected.

Cheers Graham

I haven't checked the Channel 4 HD thread for a few days cause everytime I checked it had been FTA for a few hours and then re-encrypted.

Anyway, have just re-scanned and it has appeared and I have just scuccessfully recorded and played back 2 minutes of Come Dine With Me (on my Panasonic TV).

My 8year old Hitachi Plasma Blew-up..yesterday at breakfast..
I said " OH Dear" as all the Power went off..
and I thought of HD at last..reading Reviews and vists to the shops.. but my wife said..
"Now we can decorate the Lounge"..Wimmen!
Hence Wallpaper Look-sees today!
I have not really taken in all the HDMI Hiccups over the last year with the Humax and TVs but as I am now awaiting a Panny G20..i will i guess be relooking at the forums if need be..
Is it better to half a unit which then feeds to a single HDMI rather than a cable for each device please?
Also.. Richard..
Are there Humax like restrictions on the USB Drive re Size and format please..?
And after all the good points which caused me to buy one..I now note in one Review..
that the Panny was so way ahead in design and anticipated wrongly a UK choice..that now the ITV HD prog only plays in ordinary Stereo at best..so did i read Graham that the Humax ITV audio is better than that.. but still not BBC standard..

ITV1-HD Granada uses MP2 (Mpeg 1 layer 2) digital audio same as SD channels. The decoder outputs this as lpcm (linear pulse coded modulated) in stereo. (the picture is full 1920 x 1080 though)

ITV1-HD London like the other HD channels has a Dolby Digital audio track. However so far ITV Dolby Digital is restricted to stereo only. The other channels have some content in DD5.1.

All the formats though do contain matrixed surround sound data in prologic2 format if you have a suitable decoder.

The problems seems to be Humax HDR specific.
May I throw something in the ring here - just to test the theory that the Humax HDR is not capable of recording DVB-S2 channels (which seems to be the majority conclusion on this thread) I tried recording several other FTA DVB-S2 channels on 23.5º and 19.2º on my Humax HDR and they all recorded perfectly. So it seems to be C4 HD specific and not Humax specific.
Possibly because of the encryption flag being set or maybe (pre-launch) they have set the HDCP flag?

23.5º
Astra HD Demo channel 11720 H DVB-S2 27500 QPSK 9/10
Anixe HD 12032 H DVB-S2 27500 QPSK 9/10
19.2º
Servus TV HD 11303 H DVB-S2 22000 8PSK 2/3
Das Eerste/ZDF/Arte HD 11362 H DVB-S2 22000 8PSK 2/3
