Why Freesat?

I have been tempted to join freesat and I just want to know from those of you that have it what are the pros and cons over Freeview?

I'm really in a pickle, I want to go HD and PVR (I miss my old Virgin+HD box, but don't miss paying for it), should I go for Freesat over Freeview?

All comments and replies very much appreciated.

I should think that all other things being equal (signal strength especially) that the major advantage of Freesat over Freeview is that the available services and channels on Freesat is not limited and therefore future-proof added to which you have the advantage of non-Freesat mode to get loads of extra free-to-air channels. But it is horses for courses - if you are content with the current Freeview channel options in your area and don't have a dish pre-installed then it is a much simpler solution.

Freesat pros:

* Much more guaranteed room for expansion (although there isn't much room at this current moment, new satellites are scheduled and paid for that cover only the UK, like Astra 2D)
* HD in areas without Freeview HD
* More +1 channels
* CBS channels
* Other entertainment channels
* More news/kids'/music/film channels
* Guaranteed iPlayer support (on all Freesat HD receivers but a few older TVs (some LG and 2008 Panasonic) and BD recorders (2009 Panasonic) - LG send out free Freesat HD boxes to anyone who requests one with proof of purchase, and Panasonic are still working on updates), and ITV Player coming soon (or now if you get the Humax and get the beta testing code from this forum)

Freesat cons:
* No UKTV channels
* No Sky channels
* No Five channels aside from Five itself
* A few other channels on Freeview are missing.
* Channel 4 HD has not launched yet (but will be launching in April - test broadcasts can be viewed if you manually tune your receiver, details in the thread in the Freesat forum)
* EPG a bit clunkier compared to some Freeview receivers (but better than others) - TV picture is interrupted (temporarily for some receivers, permanently until you exit the guide for others)
