FOXSAT HDR - Subtitles in Live Pause
duane dibbley
14-02-2011
Does anyone know why my Foxsat HDR insists on adding subtitles every time I live pause the thing? Most annoying. I can't turn them off without exiting live pause either, if I hit the "sub" button it says "this feature is unavailable during Live Pause"! Maybe there's a setting somewhere I've missed? Or is this a known bug? Latest software and loader btw.

it's a bug once fixed that's cropped up again. Press OK twice to get rid.

Many thanks for the quick reply Graham! Much appreciated....

Thanks, thats solved one of my issues on my 500GB Foxsat-HDR.

Current problem is that Live pause or playing back having Live Paused will suddenly exit Live Pause and go to the current real time programme.

Also is there a way of once in Live Pause to start Recording from either when you first switched to that channel or from the beginning of Live Pause. This is the main feature that I miss most from when I had Sky HD up and running.

The recording buffer is flushed at the completion of the programme, if you are watching behind in timeshift mode you lose the end. Workaround instead of pressing pause press record. After 30 sec play back the on going recording from the media list in chasing playback.

Rewind and recording the timeshift buffer was identified as an upgrade together with a fix for the termination of recording after a power cut until the box was manually booted. A beta firmware released yesterday fixed the power cut bug but did not offer timeshift buffer recording

Do you know if this is fixed in the new update?

Someone has reported not.

Probably not the thread to ask this but one of the reasons I cancelled my SkyHD was to get the 500GB Foxsat-HDR and (in my mind) its perceived functionality being nigh on identical to a SkyHD box. This is evidently not the case and OK, at the moment I will stick with it . . . but, is there another twin-tuner Freesat box that is at least functionally as capable as a Sky HD box?

Which functionality are you desperately missing?

Read up above. A twin-tuner Sat box that can do Live Pause (buffer) recording in the same manner as a SkyHD box. As alluded to above that was what I was used to (up until very recently) and assumed that functionality would be available in a 2011 xSAT box that would be the equal functionally speaking.

I'll paraphrase my thoughts. Is there a better box than a SkyHD box for Recording functionality? Just annoyed that I appear to have lost out having made the move. Hopefully I am wrong!

It was your use of the word "desperately" that riled me a tad.

Please dont take my post that personally.

I'm just annoyed that I've lost out with the switch.

Peace.

Ok then. I will put it another way. Which functionality is Beach Boys ("Wouldn't it be nice") and which is Michael Jackson ("Got to be there") ?

I personally do not find the inabiliity to record the live buffer a problem as I follow the adage that if it is worth watching then it is worth recording. Sometimes you need to change your mindset rather than cling on to the old ways of doing things.

Hmmm! Please explain the "old way" of doing things and what in your mind is the new way of doing things (whilst keeping, and yet improving on the" old way" of doing things)?

Sorry. A user who cannot list their requirements is no good to anyone except a salesman with pound-signs in their eyes.

Well, being a long-termer on AVF as well as a former AVF Hardware Classifieds Moderator I bow to your comments. I did a Google search on my issue that linked me to this thread.

You must not criticise any aspect of the Humax HDR on this forum. They don't like it. No, honestly, they really, really, don't like it. The box works perfectly, its you who is the problem. Fancy expecting live pause to work correctly. And, to be able to record from the buffer? Where do you get your wild ideas from?

The whole "Live Pause" functionality on the Humax HDR is a joke. I could accept the inability to record the buffer- after all it took Sky some time to implement this, too. But, the sudden exit from live pause bug is a disgrace. It shouldn't have passed System Test in the first place. At best, it should have been fixed long ago.

Any second now there will be a response saying that this is not a problem. That one should always press record and view the recording... I can even see Barry, from that other forum, trying to trace my IP Address for being so disrespectful.

Aah! OK. Obviously I need to get the hang of the mentality around here being a noob! Why on many fora do newish posters always get treated like a noob from the old-timers (no offence intended)?

So to paraphrase, functionally speaking a SkyHD box still leads, and the FreeView/SatHD brigade are playing catchup?

It is the only question I want an answer to! Simple(s) ((s) optional)

Cracking example. Just kicked me out of the WCC highlights (recording) and I've politely asked my lovely Humax box to Last Viewed. No! I have to reposition it. Grrr

Still. Have to

Welcome to the forum.

They both have their strengths - I'd call it a dead heat.
Sky is more intuitive to use, but the Humax has better functionality.

For me the Live Buffer implementation is the big pain in the ar$e. This is the main reason we tend to use Sky all the time. Most of the other niggles can be got around with a programmable remote. (I use a Harmony, set up to emulate the Sky approach.)
