Think this phone is making its way to the top of my wanted list, first time since getting my N1 that i'm tempted to change phones.

Any more news on this such as battery life, release date and price? Most sites only seem to have a small preview of it, nothing more.

According this this article on eurodroid it has a 1650mAh battery. The desire HD has a 1230mAh. However this phone will require more power to run.

You can expect to charge it everynight....it should last 1 day on a full charge.

I cant find a release date yet or prices. It does look like a very nice phone.

I was reading (or perhaps dreaming) that one site claims that the dual core phones are actually more energy efficient than single core ones. Anyone heard anything similar?

Would be nice if it were true. But saying that as long as I can get a full day's use out of a phone, then I will be happy.

With the introduction of dual core processors to phones I believe it moves to a smaller nm/dye process which results in less power consumption.

Either way as far as I'm concerned this phone is stealing the show of all the android devices. There isn't one I want more than this.

Looks like one hell of a phone technology wise, but I cannot stand TouchWiz! It is ugly and childish looking. It is even making the phone in the video run a bit sluggish...

I am glad to see that they are using the standard Android layout on some phones now though.

So instead of a rectangular screen with a couple of buttons at the bottom it should be what, a circle? Perhaps some ugly buttons down the side making it wider?

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is on course for a 4 March 2011 release date in the UK, with the handset priced at £549 unsubsidized. Our MWC 2011 coverage continues, with some interesting developments still on course for the remainder of the conference.

The whole dual core processor is pointless imho. At first I thought that it sounded great but then a friend who is an expert in the field told me something which puts a whole different light on the subject.

"What they don't tell you about dual core phones is that you only get dual core when its on the mains (its a directive built into the CPUs, not the phones). How many people want to use their phone on the mains ?".

If he is correct, then it has put me off straight away .

I don't believe that for a minute, they would not use the chip in a mobile device if that were true.

Yeah that doesn't seem right at all. It would be widely publicised if it were true.

Dual core phones are allowing 1080p video recording, I don't know of any single core phones that can do this. Are there any?

What field exactly is he an expert in? What CPU manufacturer in their right mind would manufacture a mobile processor with that directive?

As for the Galaxy S II, looks pretty damn nice actually. I'd be intrigued to see some info about battery usage and whether the dual-core processor is a bigger hit than a single-core. Also, my Desire at the moment zips along like a dream, so day-to-day I doubt I'd feel the benefits of a dual-core processor, though the slimline form of the phone and the slightly larger screen might make this a "buy" for me when it's released. TouchWiz doesn't look amazing but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before a stock ROM can be shoved on it...

The phones processors most certainly run natively Dual Core if they have that feature. The problem actually resides in the way Android is coded at the moment, the OS is designed for single core processors at the current time. Multi-Threading will be more pervasive through the OS come Honeycomb release which handsets should get some time after the tablet version.

Agree with this. Unless the OS can make use of the second core, it will largely sit there doing nothing. However since Android is a multi tasking OS, it should make some use of the second core. Ideally an OS that is coded to use the second core will get the greatest benefits from a dual core processor.

Boll*cks, laptops have muti-core processors and don't have to be on the mains.

I have been doing some research and it looks like my friend is wrong with what he told me.

Here is the official specifications of the CPU.

I have a way of curing that addiction. I was the same as you, had to have the latest gadgets. Then I found a cure...I got married.

Talking of dual core, Qualcomm have announced a quad-core chip that should be in devices by next year.

Well I am currently engaged so hopefully my addiction will be put to rest in the near future.

Expansys will be doing the Galaxy S2 Sim Free in April. The downfall is that it will cost you £650 for the 16gb version, which is quite expensive when compared to other new dual core handsets.

LG 2x - £499.99
LG Optimus 3D £515

New non dual core handsets

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play - £550
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc - £450

I'm due an upgrade come end of March, now getting a bit worried that even an upgrade to this version on an 18 month contract (which I hate, would rather have 12) will still cost a fortune in terms of the actual phone and the contract they put me on.

I don't mind having to spend £150 or so for the phone, but refuse to spend more than £30 a month as a £10 package is more than enough for me right now.
