I think I am the only person who finds the thought of this combination vile. In fact if anyone bought this to me I think I would be sick - yet everyone I know loves it.

I think it all plays back to my school days of vile lumpy potatoes with green gravy - the peas where never strained properly!! Ever since although I like mashed potato it must not have any other food touching it and there must be no gravy to be seen.

Am I alone with this??

You might not be alone but I think your in the minority. You can't beat sausage and mash. I like it with beans and ketchup or a rich oinion gravy.

I don't like it, hubby does though but it has to be "proper" sausages, mash made with cream and butter and onion or red wine gravy

Then he slavers it all with mustard

Quality sausages, onion gravy where the onions have been caramelised to a deep mahogany, and fluffy, buttery mash is truly a thing of beauty! But like anything, it has to be done properly...

Slice one large onion into rings.
Medium heat some butter and olive oil in a saucepan.
Cook the onions until they are soft and translucent, do NOT browm them.
Turn up the heat and give them a good splash with balsamic vinegar.
Let this reduce a bit to a sticky consistency.
Add in 400ml of beef stock, made from 2 Oxo cubes.
Reduce this until thicker.

Serve with good quality sausages and mashed potato which has had butter, white (not black) pepper and milk beaten in.

Just about what I do except I do brown the onions (slowly) and add a slug of Marsala or Madeira when I add the balsamic.

I love Sausage and mash, but I hate gravy with them. I either pour the cooking fat from the sausages (I always cook mine in the oven) over the mash (naughty I know) or have onion sauce with it...now that is yum!!

I'm not really a fan of mash but if I was going to have that combo then it would have to be done right.

The way the op described it would put most people off. I for one have never got my heard around the combo of sausages with peas, especially mushy. Sausages go with beans

you need to get the image of school meals out of your head , proper quality sausages , not shit ones , buttery mash and garden peas not marrowfat peas which are the work of the devil , good gravy and finally yorkshire puddings , food heaven , shame i have got a curry for my tea

I do the sausages in a casserole but then reduce the stock down and caramelise it, and love it with mashed potato

Oh yes, my fave dinner. Sausages, mash and tinned tomatoes with a beef oxo sprinkled in. Oops almost forgot the fried onions to go with it.

Pork/beef Sausages are vile. Haven't eaten them in about 20years now.

Simply Sausages used to do some nice smoked slamon ones years ago though.

I fry the sausages and onions and then add the gravy into the frying pan with the sausages and onions before serving, makes a lovely gravy.

I would eat sausages - venison being my fav - and mash wiith some horseradish or parmesan mixed through it. An onion based tomato sauce/ gravy is fine but it must never ever touch the mash!!

I would however never choose to eat this or have it out! To me its basic boring food!

Do you serve it in a separate dish then?

How do you eat this if neither should meet?
