Totally agree. Since I got my DAB, it's Kiss all the way, although I always need to change versions on my journey to work because it looses signal. I hate it, there's a few good songs on Capital, then suddenly "Beauty and The Beat" comes on, it's embarrassing if you have other people in the car.
The only thing I listen to Capital for is for Travel Updates. What would be good is if Kiss retuned to Wave 105 for travel but I don't know if EON works cross-band. That said I don't have a car so doesn't affect me. |

I think most guys, probably some women as well but mainly guys, go through a "credible music" phase through college/uni and into the first few years of work. .
What depresses me is the incredibly narrow spectrum of appreciation in today's "yoof". In my youth of course, there were no iPods (not even Walkmans!), and no narrow spectrum radio stations. You either took the package or nothing. It's responsible for my wide taste in music at a decrepit age. It does worry me for the future musical creativity of the nation. If it ain't Scrillex, it ain't youth. That is very unhealthy. |

Anyway, I suspect my point out of this ramble is that by playing pure pop you're not always going to get the youngest audience. And I suspect Capital don't mind this. Under 25s aren't much use to advertisers because (as the stereotype goes) they haven't got any money yet. I suspect they'd be happy if the majority of the audience were over 25 - in steady work, possibly with kids who are a drain on finances, and possibly ready to graduate to Heart. The under 25s are served perfectly well by Radio 1, who can cater to all their whims.
Average audience age is a bit of a red herring - there are way more over 25s than 15-25s in the available audience, and many of them will still be listening to Capital (as they do to Radio 1). It's a free broadcast radio service. You can't tell people to switch off when they hit 35. But, that being the case, they are doing well. (Of course, we can all find anecdotes that show something else - e.g. my daughter is 13 and has 'grown out' of Capital. She was an avid listener for two or three years, but now she's gone all Jake Bugg and Ben Howard on us). |

I hope it does not happen but let's say Andi Durrant decides he no longer wants to be part of Capital. What do you think they would do?

How come James Barr is down to just 7-10pm Mon-Thursday now? (Massive drop from 7-11pm Mon-Sat this time last year)

I thought this! Very strange. And the schedule next week says he is filling in for Christian Williams on the 3am shift on a saturday morning? Unless they've loosened his commitments to help out with cover across the network?

But surely moving from one of the best slots on the station (people getting ready to out on a Fri/Sat) to cover man at 3am isn't the best move?

Does anybody think Capital FM will play Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis? It's going to be one of the biggest songs of 2013. It dosn't seem like something Capital will want to play though, because of its genre, but they did play Somebody That I Used to Know and We Are Young last year, so you never know. |

It's basically social suicide to get caught listening to Capital lol.

Are the trying fade James out? First they stop his remix shows, then they change his show times & now they are accepting remixes but with different presenters. If I was James I would be disappointed with the changes.

James IS Capital...or what it's supposed to be. Quick links but packed with personality and great interaction with the audience. He can make a 20 second link memorable!
Best CHR presenter in UK radio. |

I'd rather pull out my own teeth than listen to capital. There is only so many times I can listen to a Rihanna track before I want to throw myself out of a window.

I notice that Capital are really pushing the "hit music" format at the moment with "this is hit music" in practically in every sweeper and jingle.
Whilst this strengthens and reinforces the brand, I actually preferred the older jingles where they replaced a word in an artists song with Capital, e.g with Calvin Harris and Example's recent hit it was "We'll be coming back for...Capital" or Usher's Scream being "If you wana scream...Capital". |
