Indeed, I listened to Des and Jennie at Breakfast for the first time in a while last week and it was very entertaining, funny radio. They really sound like they are enjoying themselves. It's a shame it goes all robo-DJ at 10am onwards with constant generic "check out the website", or "did you hear abourt Rhianna's haircut?", "Only 12 weeks to go until the ball that's not really anything like a ball" etc etc.

I'm sure the Jingle Ball imaging is sitting waiting to go. "Wow. Sold out guys! Keep it Capital to win your way into the Ball."

Also, I hope they will stop playing "Suit and Tie" by JT after Summertime Ball, it's just unbelievable how often this song gets played...

But kiss might play songs that capital play just as much but they don't have annoying presenters, they actually mix a few songs together during the day, they have kisstory and over the weekend their shows etc are amazing compared to capital. for me there is no comparison between kiss and capital kiss are miles ahead. Also you don't here about bloody summertime balls and jingle bell balls every time you turn the radio on

But on FM in London, where it really counts, Capital are comfortably ahead of Kiss. And that's where it matters - suggesting the majority don't share your views.

But on DAB (which is going to be the future of radio) in the northeast kiss sounds light years ahead of capital, if I lived in London I know i would still listen to kiss. that's what this thread is for, a discussion of these things. Kiss will be capital in a few years hopefully doing the same great stuff they already are doing, mark my words. Sorry to disappoint

I don't understand the comparison.
Kiss and Capital are different formats. Capital is more like The Hits than Kiss.

The hits is not a format you must not get confused. Both capital and kiss play exactly the same songs as they both have a similar target audience. capital is suppose to be more like kiss on the weekends/and overnights with specialist shows to break there schedule up. but instead they just remix the hits music instead. Capital repeat the words hits all the time they never used to do that on galaxy or did they just repeat the hits on Fridays and Saturdays. But in-case you haven't noticed kiss play exactly the same songs as capital during the day, but they they just don't call them all hits like capital do. I was always a listener to capital before I got DAB radio in my car now i can pick kiss up most places i tend to listen to that instead. my advice would be if you have got a dab radio or want a change from capital for whatever reason, try kiss for a few weeks and you will notice the difference i promise. I do tend to listen to capital still on mornings as everyone likes there own local breakfast shows. but from ten o'clock on wards i will switch stations. sorry if this offends anybody (its not aimed at anyone) but i am just expressing my thoughts.

or... try Juice FM Liverpool if you're still moaning over the loss of Galaxy. They're bang on with their music policy.

Juice fm sounds good too was just using galaxy as an example off what it use to be like

Funny enough, Juice sounds exactly like Galaxy. Even Dan Lee the voice of Galaxy is the voice for juice.

Capital South Coast breakfast in the mix for the Isle of Wight festival, that was a surprise..

lol at people saying Kiss plays the same songs as Capital. Yeah, there's some layer of overlap, that's obvious, but Kiss plays a lot of songs that Capital would refuse to touch.

But as jon craig said, Capital is not going to improve. It's making money, that's all that matters. They don't care if they play the same songs forever as long as people keep listening.

This is correct Eric, its us who are listening though so they should make it about what listeners actually want not just on how they make money

They've done the same with Rihanna's gig (in wales? was it?) Could it be something to do with Global selling it on (breaking the playlist for the new owners to experiment?) What were they playing?

Or could the reason be they want to tap into the atmosphere of the big event happening in their area?

Capital Breakfast Birmingham is starting to get a bit tedious now with Dan and Katy. Dan rarely has anything new to say with the annoying FridayBaby all the time and OiOi. That all he ever says.

Time for a change I think.

I'm in Birmingham as well. I think the presenters are fine. I'm pleased with them, I don't think they need to be replaced. However, I would like less talking and more music in the breakfast show tbh. It seems like they talk a lot more during the breakfast show than they do during the rest of the day.

On other stations it seems the common thing to do is simply talk about a current news story about an artist they just played/are just about to play, or to discuss a song. But this wouldn't work with Capital. We all know why.

Yeah, I would ideally like that, but it's never going to happen. It's too much of a risk. For example, they could stop playing We Found Love, but We Found Love doesn't lose them any audience, whilst a new song that they might play to replace it might be hated by a lot of people and cause them to lose audience. Why risk playing Harlem Shake or Bassline Junkie when it might lose them audience?

They'll always take the safe route and keep playing We Found Love. Even though everybody in the real world got over that song 18 months ago. Seriously, in my first year at uni, I heard thousands of songs at clubs, parties, in cars, blasting out of other people's rooms but never We Found Love. Not even once. Capital is the only place you can hear that song anymore. I like hearing songs from 2011 occasionally, but there's loads of others they can play. The Capital bosses must know full well that it's not what people want, but it's not losing them audience, so why stop playing it? I don't blame them really.

Is it me or is Howard's voice used more than Helens? Ever since they ditched the presenters name jingle I here his voice more.

Any one else think this or is it me?

Just wondering how did marvin manage to do his Saturday night show "live" when he was at north east live with Jls or did he do it from the capital bus studio live from there? Or use capital north easts studio?

Pretty much all Breakfast shows are speech heavy though. Capital Birmingham's Breakfast Show averages 9-11 songs in each hour. Compared to Free Radio who average 6-8 songs per hour, Capital Birmingham is much more music intensive.

Does anyone know what songs they use in the background when the presenters are talking? There's a particular sort of almost upbeat one that Pandora and James often use.
