Bauer have studios in Leeds (Radio Aire) if Kiss did hire him and were happy for him to not come from London.

Personally I can't see Radio 1 hiring him.

I think he'll go down the syndicated route that darkknight77 mentions - former Galaxyers Graeme Park and David Dunne also both do their own syndicated shows.

Pretty much make an alternative version to Pete Tong's Evolution Radio Show then?

New Presenter joining the network tomorrow. I'm assuming that it's Andi Durrant's replacement?

It's been revealed as avicii... Very impressed, the question is why has avicii agreed to lower his level to capital?

Last minute signing? Considering he covered for Pete Tong last Friday night?

Monthly.

I wonder if this will turn out to be a weekly mix show but with rotating guest DJs?

Happy that Avicii has joined but very poor that specialist finishes at 1AM. His show is monthly, so i'm guessing his show is just going to be his podcast.

Just what FM_Bandit said "Capital is dead to me"

Why couldn't they've signed Tiesto up. Considering that he did a weekly show for the Galaxy network?

Surely it's a win win for him surely? He gets paid to do a mix and no doubt Capital will promote it the week before - probably after playing his songs.

Is it surprising? Avicii + Capital go hand in hand.

Many of these famous club DJs do radio shows which are syndicated on stations around the world and available as Podcasts. I imagine Capital have just done a deal to air Avicii's monthly "Levels" show. It's produced by http://www.thenoisehouse.com/ who offer a range of similar shows fronted by Eric Prydz, Afrojack, Sebastian Ingrosso etc..

I more or less gave up as well. I listen to it when I'm in Leicester and that's it. I've had a play around with comparemyradio.com and found Capital's 'variety guage'. They played 8,801 songs over the last month, of which 256 were unique, giving them a variety guage of... 3%. That's shocking.

He also has a new album out which i'm sure will help promote it.

The Mixtape is back this week, it's seems. I'm guessing because they haven't got enough specialist hours since has Andi left?

I've talked about this before, but why do Capital never even give one spin to certain tracks? I don't get it. Say they play The Other Side by Jason Derulo 70 times a week (which seems plausible to be honest). Why don't they reduce its plays to 69 times a week and play Turn It Around by Sub Focus once in place of that extra "slot" they have? I can't remember the last time I heard a song get a one-off play on Capital. The songs that don't get played often are all recurrent tracks that they were playing loads 2-3 years ago anyway.

It used to be circa 150-160 unique tracks on comparemyradio.com for Capital but we don't know accurate that is; pretty good guess though!

Kiss has a similar number of unique tracks to Capital at present.

One issue is that due to the ex-Galaxy stations' licences, we will never have a true CHR station in London as both Capital and Kiss have to be rhythmic in nature.

No matter how good any material from Mumford and Sons, Kings of Leon (new material out recently) or any other similar band is, it won't make the playlist. It means there are two very similar stations in London.

I am a fan of both and love Capital's dance mix shows...so well produced and bang-on music policy. AJ on Kiss is good too and kisstory has alsays been brilliant.

Capital are lucky at present that the charts are dominated by music that fits a rhythmic format. Theg are allowed 5% maximum 'off-format' or 'spice tracks' but this won't be enough if music tastes change.

Agreed, listening to Z100 the other day and while its tighter (Katy Perry - Roar on twice in 40 mins) it has a lot more variety in terms of what it plays with them playing more guitar based music so much so they even gave Linkin Park - Numb a spin while i was listening.

Capital is sounding big at the moment thought, i assume they got a lot of artist drops at the summertime ball as there power intros are big at the moment.

Those matters aside, Capital is sounding the best it has in years. The dance mix shows, the power intros; it's all very slick!

Agreed its sounding really good at the moment, the on air sound makes it sound huge. Radio 1 in comparison sounds like a small tinpot.

I'm sure that they'll apply for a format change within the next 3 years to allow them to carry the non-urban style tracks.

Ofcom will change the format because (with it being less specialist than it was under Galaxy) they wouldn't see it as a major change (character wise) for the output.

This will depend on whether they have plans to sell part of the Galaxy network or rebrand Capital Birmingham as Capital Extra - which could have a major impact on the current output on the network.

If they dump Capital Scotland (seems likely out of keeping both Smooth & Real which as both located in a better premisses), would that make any major impact on the network?

I could see a format change request to become "predominately" or "mainly" rhythmic-based. That way they could argue the vast majority of the music would still be rhythmic-based and the amount of non-rhythmic music would still be in the minority.
