I wouldn't describe Capital as "rhythmic" at all. It plays a lot of dance songs by black artists, which is probably how it gets away with being called "rhythmic", and how it fits whatever rhythmic requirements it has, but a rhythmic station is supposed to play R&B and hip hop too, and there's hardly any of that on Capital in the day-time, especially pre-2013 (there is now, because R&B/hip hop has made a huge comeback in the charts in 2013 via Blurred Lines, Suit & Tie, Mirrors, Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us, but 2012 and before hardly any R&B/hip hop was on Capital).

Musically the dance songs by black artists are no different from the dance songs by white artists. So Capital can maybe thinks it's a rhythmic station because it plays Starships by Nicki Minaj and songs like that, but really that's top 40 music. Yes, Chris Brown, Usher, Ne-Yo, etc. may be R&B singers, but Capital doesn't actually play any of their R&B songs. It plays their dance-pop songs which is exactly the same type of music that Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears release.

Agreed, listening to Z100 the other day and while its tighter (Katy Perry - Roar on twice in 40 mins) it has a lot more variety in terms of what it plays with them playing more guitar based music so much so they even gave Linkin Park - Numb a spin while i was listening.

Capital is sounding big at the moment thought, i assume they got a lot of artist drops at the summertime ball as there power intros are big at the moment.
You bring up Z100, so find me a rhythmic station in the US that has a playlist like Capital then. Find me a rhythmic station in the US who has Taylor Swift as one of their most-played artists. Find me a rhythmic station in the US that has never had a J Cole or Big Sean single in high rotation. Why in 2011 were Wonderman by Tinie Tempah and I Need a Doctor by Dr. Dre not played on the station in the day-time?

In Birmingham we don't have any radio stations that play that kind of music. Whilst Galaxy FM would've played those songs. And you bring up Linkin Park on Z100, but Galaxy did used to give spins to Numb/Encore, and also to My Chemical Romance, Razorlight, and many others back in 2006/2007, when that type of music was dominating the charts. They weren't getting huge airplay on the station, but at least occasional spins here and there. That's what I was saying before, Capital could be like Galaxy and give one spin during day-time hours each day to The 1975 or Bastille or whatever, but they never seem to do that.

I agree with this. However Capital have just this moment (19:55) played OneRepublic - Counting Stars and have also been playing The Vamps (indie) and Union J (acoustic). Not bad and still stays in the 10% limit. Still think they need to let ' Jason Derulo - The Other Side' and 'I Need Your Love' die though ugh

In New York, there's also Now 92.3 which operates more of a rhythmic CHR format.

http://923now.cbslocal.com/playlist/ Avicii - Wake Me Up seems to be the most played track, playing every 65 minutes.

Marvin will be recording 'The Voice' for the BBC, etc. soon but according to Duncan Wallace's twitter feed a while back, he will still be doing the Capital show on Friday and Saturday nights (which is great as I really enjoy it; it sounds so slick).

However, it is very obvious it is voice-tracked. Getting listeners to leave voicemails on a designated number throughout the show is great at giving the show personality etc and it means Marvin doesn't need to shout them out individually although it sounds better when he does.

I do like the fact that they are doing this as very few would notice, people get their names mentioned on-air, and also it means Marvin's show is on-air still for when he finishes with 'The Voice' and goes back to being live again.

Flicking through stations on Radioplayer, South Wales sounds different. Is the processing different there or is it being fed differently? Birmingham sounds directly fed.

Yeah, it doesn't sound the same without Cheryl Coles "on your mobile" accent on Capital TV....

Glad to have Capital on the Liverpool mux, as MXR was sketchy at work. Capital is sounding great ( in small doses, so as to avoid repetition ), even my colleagues have tuned it in in the Staff Room. Sounds big, sounds professional... unlike Juice, which sounds very weak and small.

Andi Durrant tweeted a picture of BBC R1 & 1XTRA studios a few weeks ago. He also said about how he will be back on radio soon as his contract agreements end. Interesting.

Don't think it's anything to do with R1. Its a new venture with a few ex Capital Yorkshire staff including the current producer of Hirsty, Scott Myers.

Was Andi aware about Capital Xtra? I would of thought that he may of moved to an earlier slot on that station.

Andi will probably do what Mash does in Scotland and present a single dance show on a normal network, no? or do a Pete Tong and syndicate shows across the world.

It appears that Emma Caldwell from Capital EM has left her drive show, with newbies 'Tom & Claire ' taking over.

Global seem to be going for these personality based shows in some regions.

It's a good move as well, across the way in Oz they have a similar with personality double act breakfast, Music Intensive daytimes and then personality double act drive and it works really well.

I still love Marvin and Christian/Will Cozens on Friday and Saturday...the mixes produced by Duncan Wallace are great. It's good because it's not too specialist, but enough to get up for a night out and be a bit different to daytime!

I notice Max does a mix after the big top 40...which is a nice idea as top 40 and then straight back to playlist is a bit much!

Exactly what Capital should be playing on a weekend evening. While Andi Durant was a competent presenter/club DJ I always thought the show stuck out like a sore thumb on Capital, the current sound is much more on brand.

They're are recently fresh out of University from what I hear, a nice big gig to land as your first job though. Good luck to them.

I don't ever remember Galaxy playing My Chemical Romance or Razorlight, especially as in 2006 they were heavily focussed on their "number 1 for dance and r&b" sound, even more so with Galaxy Birmingham which was running a seperate, more rnb focussed playlist at the time. The only time they starting playing some guitar lead tracks was when Global took over and were trying to shoe-horn the current Capital sound onto them in 2010.

That's the sound Capital is (understandably) going for... listen to North East and South Wales breakfast shows.

Seems like Scotland, Birmingham, Yorkshire & North East are the only ones unaffected.

Also, Scotland have longer local hours on Saturday: 5am - Mid Day (including Breakfast Best Bits). Bit weird of them to be the only region to have longer 'local' hours. (Not saying that's bad at all! )

..and I wouldn't think that the 'double/triple act' shows are there to help maintain the speech output?
