Are Capital just waiting for Radio 1 to axe Scott Mills first?
Also, will there be on air changes - shows/playlist wise?”
I don't think Scott Mills will be joining Capital from BBC Radio 1. If he is considered too old for BBC Radio 1's demographic than I cannot see him joining Capital. Either Scott stays with the BBC and gets moved to the weekends and in addition starts the transition to BBC Radio 2 deputising for presenters like Dermot O'Leary, Ken Bruce and Steve Wright.
I think if Scott leaves the BBC for the commercial sector it will be station that has an older demographic than BBC Radio 1 either Heart, Radio X, Absolute or Virgin.
In terms of the recent changes at Capital I predict a spin off station nationally will launch on Digital One similar to how Heart Extra and Smooth Extra operate with the simulcast of the London Breakfast nationally and then from 10.00 - 19.00 non stop music and then a simulcast of Capital London until 10.00 the next morning. Global would call it something like Capital Hits obviously they cannot call it Capital Extra.
The Capital network only covers a small amount of the UK compared with Global's other networks such as Heart and Smooth. To compete with BBC Radio 1 the station needs to be on national DAB. The main station cannot go national on DAB as some FM licences are local not regional and Capital South Wales and Capital Scotland are owned by Communicorp. So a national spin off station could help the situation.
I think Ashley Tabor will put Marvin Humes on Capital London Breakfast which would be heard nationally on Capital Hits and Marvin would still host the Saturday night show and the Big Top 40 across the Capital Network. I think Dave Berry will move to Radio X and may be reunited with Lisa Snowdon. As Richard Park said at Christmas that Lisa would remain in the Global family.
