DAB stations have two names - one for radios only capable of showing 8 characters, and the other for radios that can display 16 characters.

Didn't know that, thanks!

Even so, the Moel-y-Parc version still just says Capital now. Have all the other local ones changed name now?

That actually sounds quite good, non stop with no ads every Friday and Saturday from 10pm-6am.

Didn't GWR/GCAP do something similar with ministry of sound on some of its stations?

I must be dreaming... Well done Capital! Take it that they'll also extend their clubbers guide show to Capital roo?

Some decent DJs down for the 10-6 non-stop slots so, assuming they're not just going to be playing dance remixes of chart hits, this could be good for Capital's credibility as a music brand.

Other than that, though, much less change than I was expecting. I thought they might bring in some big names for weekend breakfast or mornings and inject a bit more personality and star quality - but it doesn't sound like that's what these changes are about.

I'm surprised that Anton Powers isn't part of the DJ line up.

See I'm not so enthusiastic about this. I always appreciated that Capital weren't playing dance music when everyone else was.

They did something similar after the network first launched.

Did someone say there were more changes to come maybe in daytime ?

Surely the bassman and greg burns are bit old for the station demograpic and compared to the other dj's. Marvin is wasted in the 10pm graveyard slot why not use there biggest name at breakfast or drivetime often the most listened to shows

Because they can only put them on the London version if they do that.

This explains the recent closure of Ministry of Sound Radio. Mike Wooller and Goldierocks were both doing shows on the late Ministry of Sound Live Radio. A shame the station no longer exists, but hopefully these shows on Capital will be some consolation and will be on FM/DAB around the UK for the first time.

The station's off air for a break. But I do hope that some of the shows like Defected, Hed Kandi (founded originally by John Myers if I remember) Fabio and Groove rider get slots on Capital Xtra. I remember that Nu Cool and Hed Kandi had deals with the Galaxy network. But I'm also interested if they'll host outside broadcasts from Ibiza and /or live and direct from the club. Exciting times ahead and I welcome this news. Big question is what's going on with Capital xtra in regards of shows on Friday and Saturday nights? Why not network the two for the ministry of Sound takeover?

Any reference to the station being off air for a break has been removed from the website and there is no mention of the station anywhere on the website. The links to the station website that I had bookmarked on my browser now return error messages, so I'm not very optimistic about the station returning. It's quite unusual for a station to close for so long just to make some changes. When it changed from Ministry of Sound Radio to Ministry of Sound Live, the station didn't go off air, and this was a major change that saw the station go from a single jukebox station to a new format with presenters all day as well as around 7 new specialist streams such as Anthems, Throwback, House, Running Trax etc

Hadn't they just employed some live presenters? Maybe they weren't making as much money as they thought they would to justify it. Remember it was a digital only station and I don't think it was on DAB in many places?

The station was online only. I wouldn't rule out the return of ministry radio. Could make a deal with Global within the next few years? Hed Kandi was the only big show left and would fit well on Capital Xtra. Show was hosted by Zoe Hardman of Heart's late show.

John wasn't a founder - GMG became the owner of Hed Kandi as an aside when it bought Jazz FM.

There's a section in his book about Hed Kandi mainly centred around the sale.

Certainly was an interesting brand for GMG. Although I see little difference between them, Defected and the deep house show that ministry had on Thursday nights (prior to closure). I do hope that there's more to come out of this deal in the weeks ahead. I'll be tuned in tonight.

Is Ashley just trying to turn Capital back into Galaxy? The new jingles could be Galaxy-era stuff, Galaxy Weekend as a brand > Capital Weekender.

and as someone else pointed out, Ministry of Sound went out on The Mix network back in the day.

I like it - a lot, but it seems very Galaxyish

I was meant to ask how much difference will it be (judging by its success on gwr) compared to the 100% full on Capital remix shows that we had from James Barr and Marvin Humes?

That is because unfortunately, there is little difference between what is called "house" music these days.

Do you think that capital could be launching a national service like "heart extra", where the regional parts are just replaced with songs?
