Yes, Johnny Vaughan did go to TalkSport, but that was years after he was dropped by Capital. He also went to Absolute for a drivetime show during the Olympics, but again that was over a year afterwards.
Vaughan did the Capital Breakfast show in London from 2004-2011, but was just told one day that he’d hosed his final show and he wouldn’t need to turn up to work next week. To me it always seemed a bit unfair (to him and his listeners) that he was never given the opportunity to say goodbye. Most listeners were just left wondering what had happened to him when he suddenly disappeared. It was Capital that dropped him, so it wasn’t like he had a new job and they were worried he’s promote a rival station on the air. I guess they just didn’t want him to bad mouth them on the air once he knew his show was coming to an end.
As I said, leaving quietly paid off for him because he now works for Global again, which would never have happened if he had publically criticised them for the way his departure was managed.
