Marvin isn't showing up on the V Festival lineup? So presumably he will be on the Vodafone Big Top 40 as normal next Sunday.
He is not on the main lineup, but there currently a compition on Capital at the moment where 1 person can Dj with him next Saturday.

I thought I'd revisit this question. I'm looking for a Global fan to answer this because I can't figure it out.

Why do Global insist on pretending Capital is local during networked hours? Anyone who calls in is clearly briefed not to say where they're calling from. Texts and tweets never say where the person is from and the presenter never says he is in London.

My Mrs noticed this and asked me. So it's not just me. When you're talking about big cities like Capital Liverpool, Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester we CAN obviously tell the presenter is not in our city. Why not just be honest about it?

I have no problem with the presenters being in London, it is our capital city. It's the deceit that winds me up, smart networking makes it worse "Whatssup Liverpool its Bass here, got some big tunes coming up your gunna love it arite?" We don't speak like that here I can tell you're in London mate!

I've never heard this in any other countries. You listen to Ryan Seacrest in the US and he's interested in where in the country people are calling in from. They don't try and hide that it's a networked show in any way.

It's a good point, but I think it might have something to do with the location stations having their region in their title, like Capital Scotland, North East etc etc.

If each regional station just referred themselves as Capital - The UKs #1... then it'd make more sense to hear a caller from Liverpool on the South Coast, but having a competition winner on Capital Liverpool saying their from Glasgow just sounds a bit odd.

I think that makes sense.

It doesn't make sense to me no, because I can tell the presenters aren't in Liverpool. Everyone in Liverpool already knows the station is national, so why would they think it would be odd if someone phoned in and said they were from Glasgow? It doesn't sound odd on Radio 1.

I was trying to get the point across that Radio 1 is marketed at Radio 1, not Radio 1 Liverpool, Radio 1 Newcastle etc etc.

I know many people, albeit not in liverpool, who listen to Capital who think the daytime presenters come from where they're listening,

Yes exactly, are you in the south though?

You can't trick people in major northern cities (or major Scottish or Welsh cities) in that respect, the way we speak is just too different. Not just the accent, the words we use or don't use too.

Take my comparison with US stations, they keep their local branding even during networked shows. Same as Capital. So if you go to a commercial break in the Ryan Seacrest show you will hear your local jingles etc. So it's no different. The difference is that in the US during the actual shows they are quite open that they are broadcasting from LA for example and ask the callers where they are calling from.

Interesting point - but what about the DJ's on City who aren't from Liverpool? Scott Hughes and Dave Kelly, for example.

On The Big Top 40 callers are referred to as 'Steve in Glasgow' or 'Richard in Winchester'. However the show is the 'UK's Biggest Chart Show' and it makes sense as you point out.

The show is known as a network show; especially as it's previous name was 'The Network Chart Show'

Big Top 40 is different. I'm talking about the networked shows that go out across Capital only.

That's fine, they're in Liverpool and possibly live there. This could apply to any major UK city, don't think I'm making this about Liverpool. It's maybe more apparent in places like Liverpool and Leeds where the accents are stronger though.

It probably doesn't help that Global don't make any attempt to put anyone on the networked shows with any kind of accent. Every single person they hire seems to have a generic south eastern accent. They waste good people like Baz Todd on local stations, get him on the national feed. He's great!

Capital's Sunday night schedule shows as follows:

4-7 The Vodafone Big Top 40 With Marvin Humes
7-11 Roman Kemp
11-12 Aimie Vivian (I imagine Aimie is on later than just for an hour).

Question is, have Capital ditched the Throwback hour or are the alterations because Marvin is off and the top 40 hasn't been updated yet?

It's a bug in the website data, as this morning on my local capital breakfast they where doing Capital Throwback, as For Roman kemp it states that JJ is filling in for him but the website I'm sure will correct it self during the week.

Yes I know they do it from 9-9:40 on Breakfast, but I'm talking about Marvin's 7-8 Throwback hour. That explains it then if there's a bug.

I wondered why is was 7-11 rather than 8-12 or 7-10.

But didn't you say Marvin is off this Sunday or was that not proven?

Last Friday I listened to Capital over two hours around Midday. For that time, Capital sounded really fresh and they played some great tunes. At the breaks, I had a quick listen into Radio 1, and every time I tuned in except once, it was just dreary talk.

If Capital could just cut some of the crap out like Little Mix and Bieber, it would be a perfect listen. Obviously they wouldn't do that, because their main target audience loves them.

But back to the point, Capital was putting out some banging tunes for a Friday daytime, while Radio just sounded so dull. Never been a fan of R1 though, except for the old stool Friday and Saturday nights.

Hahaha, I love how that's your reply to all that!
Ok, well he sounds it to me. Where is he from? They all just sound "southern" to me. I couldn't say where exactly, just the south somewhere.

Same as how if you heard me you'd think I was from Liverpool. Even though actually I don't have a strong accent, and I'm not from Liverpool and don't live there.

The north of England has so many different totally different accents it's fascinating. I guess to most southerners all sound the same. But I can tell the difference, like here in London, someone from west London has a different accent to somone from north London. Same as someone from Brighton doesn't sound the same as soemone from Hastings!

That's what puts me off Radio 1, it often seems like talk is more important than music.

They've just started doing a 30minute mix-block at 1o'clock on Friday and it sounds SO hot, Capital seem to be listening to what people want, a bit more variety of music across the day (albeit not loads), the Throwback sticking around, and now the mix block. Seems like someone is doing their job right

I fan tell the difference with the various London accents. But some people live in the East End and don't have the accent! So you can never be sure. Some people who have weaker accents would sound southern (barth instead of bath. larrtay instead of latte etc!) but you couldn't place them exactly.

Your last example, I wouldn't have a clue. Brighton and Hastings would sound the same to me. Just like people from parts of Cheshire. Not close enough to Liverpool to pick up that accent, not close enough to Manchester to pick up that. They just sound "northern".

To be fair to them both I'm liking capital and I'm not even in their age target range. The only downside for me is its not available here in the east in FM so can only listen via DAB or app.
