Here's a response. There's nothing to see here. Move along.

Would rather hear the Yorkshire version of Capital on Sky instead of London for the above reason. Johnny and Lisa have never been a good listen when I've tuned in - I've thought Johnny's shows were much better a few years back when the station was Capital Radio / Capital 95.8 really.

The Kiss network imaging (produced mostly by PureTonic) is spot-on for it's target audience and the music it plays. Galaxy's was kind of spot on too with Dan Lee as the voiceover.

The Spin 1038 imaging (also by PureTonic) is also great to listen to aswell, very upbeat and I think it works well with the hit music format (or more music as they say) which they run.

James Barr is replacing Dave Kelly. I could write a huge post on how they've wasted Dave at Capital, and why he was shunted into such a ridiculous shift, but it's just too depressing and achieves little. How is Bassman "right" and Dave Kelly not? Sigh.

Good luck, Dave - you're a talent and a gentleman and you've done the right thing.

As for the Guardian piece - it's not really an unreasonable assessment.

And not a million miles away from what many working for Capital think, either.

You know, i always read your posts with interest, because you tell it like it is, and dont use the "spin" of others.

Good on you!

How is Roberto & Bassman "right"? Both good presenters but so bland on Capital. I have tweeted Roberto a couple of times and he is a nice guy - but wow, compare him and the bassman and they sound the same.

The Capital jocks need to be given personality not robo-jock. Good on Dave though for jumping "ship", I'm sure presenting drivetime in Liverpool will be much better than overnights in London.

Personality - outside of breakfast - on Capital? Ashley will be choking on his oysters!

I'm sure Dave will enjoy having a life now....

Getting to be a regular thing this now, James replaced Dave when he left Galaxy.

Wonder how long it will be before he gets pissed off with not being allowed to use his talent?

That's a shame. Quite liked him. Although, I did wonder how much longer he'd be at capital. Moving from weekday over-nights to weekend afternoons wasn't much of a step up. Wonder where he's off to!?

Anyone remember when Xfm scrapped daytime programming and just put on non-stop music?

The cracks are beginning to show. Fed up with the boring tight music rotation day after day and stifled on what to say on air.

I bet Dave Kelly is smug now, knowing that he is about to get the timeslot he deserves.

I reckon Greg will look elsewhere soon, you can tell the music is starting to grate and he just wants to get the show done.

I very much doubt that's the case. Most decent jocks like Dave and Scott relish the challenge of injecting some personality into a format, and pay little or no attention to the music while it's actually playing because they're too busy planning their next few links.

It's more likely they don't like the style of management or don't think their careers can progress any further at Capital. The two may be linked if they don't get on with Parky or Capital's PD.

If only they all do that, instead of the same bland links. Even James Barr is hardly inventive and he was said as being one of the greats as Galaxy came to an end.

James is fairly new to working tight formats from what I can gather, so it's something he'll learn over time.

I've grown to really like Scott over the last few weeks. Whilst he doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel, he does inject excitement into every link and sounds like he knows and loves the music.

Dave is also a massive talent, and it speaks well of him that he possibly sounds even better nailed down to a format than he does with more freedom. He has bags of personality and creativity, but also the self-discipline not to need to waffle on for hours to express it.

I'd agree with that. As a company, I get the impression they're utterly demoralising to work for.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get from the way some people who know about life "on the inside" speak.

Much as I think they're doing an excellent job in terms of "what comes out of the speakers" (terrible phrase that an MD I once worked with insisted on using), a lot of people that work for them don't seem to like the style of management.

I'm not referring to Global specifically as I've never worked with any of the key personnel, but a lot of terrific programmers can be awful to work for. A few former colleagues have made it to what many would see as "the big time" and yet have never been more unhappy. Conversely, plenty of well-loved, nice-guy PD's who are a joy to work with are completely clueless programmers.

I wouldn't tar them all with the same brush, i'm sure there are many at local stations who do things different according to the area they are working in.
