It bothers me as Hinckey, where I live, used to get quite a few mentions on Leicester Sound if something kicked off here - indeed not long after I got home from Spain, they beat Oak FM (their indirect AC competitor in half of the TSA) to a big story on a major nightclub brawl in the town, which left at least one reveller in hospital for several days.

That just won't happen now, sadly. We might be a one-horse town but things still happen here.
I'm from Hinckley too, but I'd never expect to receive meaningful local news (or national for that matter) on a commercial music-based radio station despite what regulations there might be. The days of "meaningful speech" rules for ILR are long gone and Mercia and Leicester Sound gradually depleted their local news output as soon as they could in order to retain their target audiences.

I'd have thought if you really wanted local comprehensive news bulletins you'd tune into a BBC Local for it.

Sadly, radio has been so deregulated during the past 25 years "broadcasting" is actually very rare now and has been replaced by very fragmented "narrowcasting".

Would you really want to know about the latest nightclub brawl in a small town location with a small town mentality? If you do then radio stations are available that cater for you.

I used to quite enjoy DS, but this place has well and truly hit rock bottom.

Totally agree, these forums are meant to be a place for people, who are interested in this same topic, to discuss and share information. Not for cat fighting and throwing insults at one another.

The Capital brand now has a record 8.7m listeners across the UK but it's down 253,000 in London

Capital remains number 1 for commercial listeners in London

Londoners have basically lost most of their local stations. They're probably starting to seek out stations that sound like they're from London.

Premium figures show that Capital's most popular listen times in London are weekdays at breakfast and through the morning/afternoon. Saturday afternoons are also doing pretty well.

How are the local weekend shows performing on the other Capital stations? You never hear much about those, would be quite interesting to know how they do

Again, performing pretty well. Saturday better than Sunday, presumably as people have the radio on in their cars if they're driving around/heading somewhere for the day.

Do you have a breakdown on which Ines are performing better than the others?
Sorry to be a pain, I'm just interested in the bigger picture

No worries! Yes, it's done in 15 minute breakdowns so you can see where peak listening times are.
