Rob Howard on Capital Birmingham seems popular and got some buzz on social media after his interview with Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell). He is also know from his Saturday morning network show but we will just need to wait and see what the future holds for Capital.

This is very interesting, do we have any estimation for dates about this de regulation then? Has Capital applied for it or something?

I've listened to Capital Birmingham Breakfast and Drive shows in the past, but can't admit I'd really miss them. Be interesting to see what happens.

They would have to let the presenters speak for more than 30 seconds or else there's no point getting talented presenters.

I've been listening quite a bit to 2Day FM which is part of The Hit Network. They've got people like Hamish and Andy that are well known beyond Australia. They're good because they're given time to speak and are given the freedom to be creative. They generate a lot of buzz on social media which is basically free marketing too!”

The Hit Network is spot on IMHO. Shame that losing Kyle and Jackie to ARN/KIIS has meant 2Day has slipped a bit in the ratings, but H&A are very good

Lets play it little game of Guess the Venue and the Date, before they suprise us on Monday at 8am

so my predictions for this years event are:

Venue: the Iconic o2 Arena in London
Date: Saturday 3rd December / Sunday 4th December 2016

Anyone know any different?”

You were absolutely right! Well done

Yeah it's cracking. Puts Global to shame, big time. Crazy when you think what Global could do with a country of our population (compared to Oz) and the talent in this country.

If they think they can have a big station with just hit music they've got a lot to learn. It's got to be about the talent too and you HAVE to let them speak or you're basically just a jukebox and people could do that on Spotify.

Quick question regarding Capital FM...

I scanned through my DAB Radio a few days ago, to see if I could find any new stations, and what surprised me was that Capital FM appears to be on both the local multiplex and the D1 digital multiplex!

Does anyone know why they did this, or what the difference is between the two stations? The local Capital FM was absolutely fine, and I think it sounds better than the new D1 version of Capital too!

Is this just so that people who go through different counties don't have to retune? Or is it so that people who can't pick up Capital on their local multiplex (i.e. Lincolnshire) actually have a version of Capital that they can listen to?

Thanks!

To my knowledge, they've not revealed the actual reason they've done this, but I think it's fair to assume some of your reasons are probably true - primarily, it patches up the areas where there isn't already a Capital.

In terms of your local Capital sounding better, that would be correct. The local multiplex ones are in stereo and higher bitrate I believe, where as the national one is mono and only 80kbps I think. Someone might correct me on that.

In terms of actual difference - the national Capital is the same as the one you might hear on Sky or Virgin. During the local programming slots it's the London schedule, but almost all of the 'splits' are national variations. That includes "the UK's no.1 hit music station" but also e.g. where Ant Payne might voice separate links for all the Capital stations, he'll also do a generic "no where" version which you'll hear on D1.

It so that Capital will drop local programming when they get deregulation from Ofcom.

I know a lot of you are not interested in schedule changes but look at this mistake from next Monday. the schedule says Pandora. Max, Christian Willams, they all left earlier this year. If you want to see it, just click on next Monday's schedule.

No local programming this weekend on all Capital station's due to the JBB, also I think this is a test as well due to the deregulation happening next year, I think they are doing this to see if anyone notice's.

Did they have local programming last year when the jbb was on?

I highly doubt they're doing it to see if anyone "notices" it's pretty obvious to see that they're going hard on the Jingle Bell Ball this year.

Make sense too, especially if people are driving down to london, they'll have the pre-ball build up with the London Breakfast show and then the backstage content etc

I think they did but I think the local show was at a different time, like 8-12 or something so they could still start the concert coverage from midday

Breaking Ofcom rules then. Global just don't care do they?

I am sure they would have got special dispensation from Ofcom. You could always get in touch with Ofcom to enquire if it's something you feel strongly about

Most of the local djs may have been at the ball anyway and it would be easier not to air the local show.

I doubt it's not that often all the capital djs all get together either.

A few hours is hardly going to be rule breaking. It's a big event and exceptions would be made for these things.
