Dave Kelly chose to leave Capital for a new challenge!

Scott's contract was not renewed!

Two different people, Two different sets of circumstances. Conspiracy theorists, at ease.

Capital are clearly enjoying hammering Adele's Rolling in the Deep - I tuned in to Capital 4 times whilst driving around for work last week, and each of the 4 times it was the first or second song plyted!

In all fairness, everyone is hammering Adele's tracks at the moment.
She is quite popular, dontcha know.

That's right, I will flick into Capital South Coast when I'm driving to work, but, anything longer than 1 or 2 songs and it's back to Radio1 or my iPod.

Where as, before I would of said that "my station" was Power FM and Galaxy. Now, most of the time I'm at home I listen to Kiss on DAB.

Even Kiss seem to be able to manage a more substantial news bulleting during drive time than anything I've heard on Capital... I know im not tuning into this type of station "for news" but I do like a bit of an update...

Saying "good luck" and doing a bit of travel doesn't count as what Capital should be doing on marathon day. So much for being a London station, this is when Capital (95.8!) should scream "London". It isn't so far.

As far as I've heard, they haven't seem to have made any kind of big deal about Roberto running it, either?

Why? Celine Dion with a double chin.

Have been listening a bit more recently! The playlist during the day is painful - so little variety. At night, Dave Kelly has a decent mix. It's still CHR, but more dance stuff and remixes (I know it's just to satisfy 'specialist hours' in the licence requirements but still...). I listened back to one of his shows from last week using Capital FM's new radioplayer and it was an enjoyable listen without being really specialist. I still knew the biggest tunes would be in high rotation but there were more of them - why can't they do that during the day?

Dave also has bucketloads of personality and I love his banter with phone callers. He still keeps it tight CHR type radio which is what Capital want apparently, but doesn't make it robotic. He is entertaining, keeps it brief, and plays the tunes.

Keep the playlist regular during the day, and tight enough, but just add more current tracks!

And you believe what you get told? Do you believe everything the papers and the telly news say? I don't.

No.

Dave Kelly left (or rather, is leaving!) because he was rightly pissed off at being on between 11pm and 3am. He wanted to be at Capital, just not in the middle of the night.

Can't say for definite with Scott, but it is likely given a few of the changes we'll see to Capital weekends in the next couple of months that he was not renewed.

Indeed, Capital in the past would either have a live OB from the Tower Thistle Hotel and have a reporter on the finish line as the elite runners would come in. They also used to play tracks to spur the runners on.

BBC London 94.9 normally has some form of an OB along the route, although I don't know what the coverage was on there this year.

No, but I generally rely on my own eyes and ears, well most of the time anyway!

Just a retro blip in the radiosphere rather than anything for Global or Gem to be worried about I'm sure but should be interesting... Trent had nostalgic heritage pull for years after it was emasculated so not a surprise this is the first sentimental online resurrection... What's the legal status of all the mothballed station names?

Global own the name "Trent FM" (and quite a few variants on it!), and all of the other heritage names too. If I recall, a few days were set aside last year to safeguard those as trademarks etc for a variety of dull reasons - a situation like this included.

Will they set legal on this? Knowing Ashley, yes. He's even tetchy about pisstake Twitter parodies, so...

Here's the trademark which among other things covers "broadcasting over the Internet or other computer network"

I'm actually a bit suprised Scotts on his way, and also James Barr replacing Dave Kelly. James is ok but does sound very wooden on air at Capital, almost scared to talk ! The processing does him no favours as his voice is pretty light and the end result can be like a squeaky swing.

Their website is saying they have been contacted by Global's Head of Legal. However the Legal Disclaimer goes into a sarcastic rant about Global and Capital!

And on twitter too: http://twitter.com/trentfm/status/60105413298892800

I wish that Capital South Coast would take off the ad to do with healthcare that says "call your local branch in Cottingley" then giving out a Bradford area code phone number - Cottingley being near Bradford! I first heard it 2 weeks ago, still on air now.

Traffic department clearly isn't what it used to be, though its strange nobody's noticed...

according to that twitter link this is what they say..
Quote:
“"Global (Capital FM) are threatening legal action if we launch www.trent.fm - their email (from London) claims that the word Trent is theirs.”

Looks like there could be a few problems ahead for other companies and even features in the locality
Trent Barton buses
Nottingham Trent University
Trent Valley Growers
Severn Trent Water
and not forgetting the River Trent

They will all be safe - these are the areas covered by the trademark:

Quote:
“Telecommunications services; electronic communication services; radio broadcasting, digital radio broadcasting and television broadcasting services; broadcasting over the Internet or other computer network; electronic transmission of streamed and downloadable audio and video files via electronic and communications networks as well as by means of a global computer network; electronic mail services; providing access to on-line chat rooms and bulletin boards; operation of chat rooms; web casting services; telecommunication of information including web pages, computer programs, text and any other data; providing access to digital music websites on the Internet or other computer network; delivery of digital music by telecommunications; webstreaming being the transmission of data, information and audio-visual data via the Internet or other computer network; news agency services; transmission of written and digital communications; leasing and rental services in connection with telecommunications apparatus and equipment.”

Obviously the word 'Trent' does not belong to Global, but I'm guessing the words 'Radio Trent', 'Trent FM' etc probably do.
