I agree - it's like saying "he did overnights on Heart" - yes it's overnights, but it's still Heart!

I wouldn't even say Radio Aire is a "blip" - they're still on the network at the weekends as well across most of the Place network as well as Heat.

They were but most of the network gradually went back to local programming to the point where it was just Aire Hallam and CFM I think carrying it.

JK and Joel's Saturday Night Thing was on Viking until 2/3 months ago (Surprisingly IMO replaced with a live local show)

I think you misunderstood my post. I was responding to Galaxy Gram who said

Quote:
“Is there any radio station JK & Joel haven't worked for?

Also, why do they always come as a package? I'm surprised at Global taking them on, having to pay two wages instead of one for a show!”

Which suggested that Galaxy thought JK & Joel have got "form" for moving around - which could be seen as a bad thing - and that Global were taking a risky move by employing two presenters instead of one.

Personally I think JK & Joel are a great act and good on Global for signing them up.

However, equally, there are some presenters out there who have - for all the wrong reasons - very, very long lists of stations they've worked at and left - sometimes under a cloud.

And just to be clear, I'm not counting in that list the hard working freelances who get lots of cover work here and there and - for whatever reason - don't have a regular gig.

Wonder how their northern accents will go down in London????? Hope they get a daily show as they have good personalities unlike some of those robots on there

Sacha Brooks on the network this afternoon. I hope she gets a slot. Would also love to see the very hard working and excellent Will Cozens. I think Sacha should get 10-1 with Will at 1-4 in the afternoon, with the evening shows being James Barr, who deserves to be on earlier and JK and Joel. I reckon Adam O'Neil may be on for network too as Matt Foister has had voiceovers done now so I reckon he may be lined up to replace Adam on Yorkshire drive. There are my predictions anyway.

That's not a bad prediction. They're all young and have the right sound. Surely the Base man has to be quite old wasn't he on Essex radio for YEARS? And how old is Margereeta?

IF that was the line up, it wouldn't be a bad one.

Actually, I caught Dave Berry covering for Johnny Yawn the other day and thought he sounded brilliant. Kept things short and sweet and really done well interviewing the inbetweeners stars too. Really hope that Dave gets the Capital London breakfast show in future, he sounds also really good on weekends at the mo!

Heres some food for thought. How about if they move bass man and have him be called James again and put him on heart?

Yeah, good idea. Then replace him with Rich Clarke and give JK & Joel Rich's evening show. Sorted!

That's a great idea. Similarly, Radio 1 could get rid of Moyles, Mills, Westwood and Annie Nightingale.

Age doesn't matter if you're still sounding relevant to the audience.

I agree there. John Peel was proof of that.

James is in his mid-late 40s I believe, this might not be a bad move though, especially as Capital could get one of the younger off-peak jocks for a lot cheaper.

But he sounds right, look at Elvis Duran, he's similar age and still rocking the hits on Z100.

The Bassman is one of the few DJ's who looks exactly like how I thought he'd look (if that makes any sense)...

The restricted-by-Galaxy-format Capital FM is gonna be in trouble I think. The fastest selling single in the UK is the new one by One Direction and they will only be able to play it a token-gesture of an amount because it isn't rhythmic, but it is guitar-led pop.

It'll be interesting to see if it has to be treated as a 'spice' track! When music trends change, Capital won't be able to change with them unless they convince Ofcom that they deserve to be a full CHR station.

According to comparemyradio.com, they are one of the very few who haven't played their new single yet.

Nor are they likely to. One Direction are in direct competition with The Wanted, who just happen to be represented by Global Talent. Which is why The Wanted get played about every hour on both Capital and Heart.

Of course, Global's official reason for not playing One Direction will probably be "it's not right for Capital" even though The Wanted, of course, are perfect for it.

It raises the question, where will Capital go when this current Urban/Dance/everything-sounds-like-David-Guetta era is over? Should rock/guitar based hits make a comeback to the mainstream, they'll be stuck with playing rhythmic stuff.

Meanwhile, who remembers this disastrous 2006 relaunch?

Quote:
“The new music mix, aimed at 25- to 34-year-olds, ditches manufactured pop for mainstream R&B; melodic singer-songwriters like James Blunt and Dido; 'feel-good soul', like Janet Jackson and Destiny's Child; and pop/funk from the likes of Justin Timberlake and Jamiroquai.”

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/orga...relaunchintune

That was probably the lowest point in Capital's history..

Finding enough mainstream rhythmic chart music to play has never been a problem for Kiss or, previously, Galaxy. I doubt Global are overly concerned.

Agreed - but as Capital wants to be seen as a "hit music station" rather than Galaxy's traditional dance/urban, if and when rock or other non rhythmic music returns to the Top 20 they're still going to be shackled by the Galaxy format, and potentially lose out to other stations who aren't limited to less than 5% non-rhythmic tracks, and can play One Direction etc.

They may not be overly concerned yet, but it will happen. At the moment, almost everything in the UK top 40 singles chart can be played by Capital but things will change. Number 2 and 4 in the singles chart at present are both not playable by Capital really and they aren't playing them at the moment, but clearly are both popular:

1 Wretch 32 Don't Go (Radio Edit)
2 Maroon 5 Moves Like Jagger
3 Emeli Sandé Heaven
4 Christina Perri Jar of Hearts

Oh, and I saw a post on Capital's facebook page asking for one direction and I am sure more are to follow!

Christina Perri is on both Capital (low rotation though) & Heart. Maroon 5 (feat. Christina Aguilera) is on Heart.

Ah OK, cheers, but the problem is still that they can't hammer it like they can other songs and can only play it a few times a week.

Time will tell...

At the mo I still think Kiss sounds alot tighter and slicker than Capital do, with their processing, image and brand sounding stronger than ever.

Capital are sounding a lot better than back in Jauuary, playing lots more dance-led tunes but they need to ditch their image. Their Jingles are just awful, no power ramps for the TOTH's, with just "Capital" being said in that mototrone dull voice in between songs with the odd "[insert place name]'s number one hit music station" thrown in. Galaxy sounded a lot better IMO, more like Kiss do now.

Also, why aren't Capital/kiss playing Cher Lloyd's song Swagger Jagger, it was number one recently and not a single play, despit the fact that it is very dance orientated. Very odd.

I agree. They need to freshen up their jingles and ditch that creepy sounding guy on the jingles. Sounds like an old man in a raincoat loool
