There have been several threads explaining the reasoning behind the Capital roll-out and the decision to drop the Galaxy name.

A year or so on, it is clear that the business decision to keep Capital and dump Galaxy was the right one.”

Is it? There's no way of actually verifying that.

There is.

Advertising = UP!

Audiences = UP!

It was an unsavoury but necessary decision. Galaxy just had a bad rep - which, granted, is a shame - and nothing was going to shake it. And re-branding 95.8 would have been crossing a line, given the audience and ad revenue at stake.

Commercially, it's been a massive success. It's not my personal cup of tea but I do take my hat off to Global for pulling this one off.

Is that why the Radio Today RAJAR graphs show increases in audience at Capital Birmingham, London and Scotland but decreases at South Coast, East Midlands, North East, South Wales, Yorkshire and Manchester?

I'd have said that shows the success of the name change varies by region and is yet to be fully established.

Can't comment on the advertising side.

I agree. It's far too early to draw any conclusions. It's also a bit of a hypothetical really - we'll never know how Galaxy would've performed in 2011 as it doesn't exist anymore.

As I said in my other post, there's no way of verifying your original comment - we'll never know how Galaxy would've performed in 2011 as it doesn't exist anymore. Any statement as regards a better or worse performance than Capital is purely conjecture.

Having listened to Capital over the last few days I have to say the imaging is so much better. I like the new sung jingles and it sounds much slicker with a brilliant TOTH.

Well done Capital. I approve!

Not sure I completely agree, the top of the hour 'cap,cap,capital's reminds me of something I would have heard on pokemon. South coast were struggling to get tge volume right on the news bed the other day as well. But overall I'm not fussed either way.

23:27 both back as usual now”

NE went silent at 23:00 then for 27 mins non-playlisted tracks such as Cee Lo Green, Cheryl Cole, BOB played whilst the rest of the network got the usual current Big Top 40 tracks.. scheduled adverts at 23:20 missed.

Usher saying 'This is London's No.1 Hit Music station' shows they haven't changed the pres after Capital networking?

That's strange. Manchester dropped out of the network at that time too for, again, 27 minutes but they played different songs to the NE. They were all current playlist songs but not stuff that James Barr would play, like Jessie J 'Who You Are' and the un-remixed version of Moves Like Jagger. Sounds like every local Capital lost the network feed at 2300 and played their own emergency back-up CD until the problem was sorted at 2327. James Barr was either unaware of this problem or chose to ignore it as he never mentioned it on-air.

Last night we had a sweeper for Capital Yorkshire in Manchester as well Just sayin...

James would have been aware of it. The network studio displays output from the other stations on a big plasma monitor.

To be fair, a lot goes wrong on his show. Particularly on Saturday night

What happened at global this morning? I was listening to Dave Berry on Capital and he kept mentioning the fire alarm was going off and there was no one else in the building. Entertaining radio though Dave and his team are great on weekend mornings.

Also, has the processing changed since the new imaging? I was listening via the iPhone app and standard headphones all night and all morning - the sound was a lot more bassier and brilliant!

Dave's show on a weekend is the best thing to happen to capital.

I think dave's show is fantastic, hopefully a move to a bit more personality stuff in general on capital. However it seems to me the only reason he's allowed to break format so much is theyre priming him for the brekky gig eventually.

He'd be good on brekky IMO. Time for Johnny Yawn to disappear, he was funny a few years ago but he'd probably be more suited to heart or xfm.

I like the TOH, not so sure about the news intro though. Glad theyve sorted out the "next capital reports the soutch coasts biggest hits in moments" promo though. Much better now "The latest news is next on Capital FM. Then more of the biggest hits"

Is it Capital or Capital FM now?

I think sometimes it's Capital FM. I don't take much notice.

After complaints Capital East Midlands is found to be operating within format with regard to its local news provision for the Nottingham and Derby licence area.

That reads as a 'you've just about got away with it, but watch yourselves' from Ofcom to me.

Reading that report, it's only just within format!

Wonder what they would make of it from a Leicester perspective. Does seem a little Nottingham biased these days when I have listened

Once again Global get as close to the line as they can.
