I was always under the impression that, since the beginning, and still today, outside of breakfast and drive:
10am-1pm, 1-4pm and 7-11pm weekdays certainly are almost completely separate shows, with maybe only one or two live 'national' links that go out across all 9 stations, the rest is pre-recorded for everywhere other than London/95.8, which is live all the time. The rest are reversed, and is more live/national across all stations with maybe one or two local pre-recorded links an hour instead. Listening to Will Cozens this afternoon and his show does sound live. But would it not be easier for the DJs and the network as a whole to have the same shows all the time (Outside of Breakfast and Drive)? |

I was reading the earlier Capital FM Network thread and noticed when the network was first launched, the London station would run a slightly different show to the rest of the network.
Is this still the case? |

So all weekend shows (excluding breakfast) and overnights (11pm - 6am) are the same 'live' show across the network?
Also, do all the breakfast shows on all stations play the same songs, or do the local djs pick them? |

I find the best way to find out is to listen on Freeview and compare it to a non-London station. Quote:

Yes they all have the same log.

To clear it up. The local shows on Capital are:
Weekdays: 6am-10am & 4pm-7pm Weekends: 8am-12pm. Same as Heart

I get the distinct impression that you're rather enjoying the systematic destruction of all remnants of the former Galaxy network, and in the process, something that had become quite an institution over the last 10 years or so.
It was, at best, a very unsavoury act on Global's part, and here you are, blatantly rubbing people's faces in the next round of said destruction. I find your posts of this nature provocative and distasteful. I also find it difficult sometimes to believe that apparent Global drones like you are here for anything other than the purpose of heckling, patronising and belittling those who do not subscribe to Global's views, business model, and propaganda but portraying it as education for the proles. Great PR for your employer there. (I'm not levying all of those charges directly and solely at you; I refer to others as well) Beyond all that, looking at this with a completely commercial and market forces brush (as I've now been forced to with two of my great loves, football and radio), I have to accept the Capital revolution makes complete sense. The vast majority of people will not notice the difference (the very small and niche XFM audience did, but who ever cared about them?) Otherwise, in most areas most people just want to hear the hits they like, in very heavy rotation to make sure they hear the exact song they like, with as little interruption as possible. Local news? Lovely, but keep it quick and keep it relveant, or go away. About half the time it takes to scroll through the local news on the red button on BBCi, to be precise. And specialist music? Meh. In most areas stationality is the key. Certainly in central Scotland we have two (although it is slowly becoming one and a half as Real Radio loses the plot) good local commercial options, so Capital's key is to hammer home the hits. It is not the first choice in most areas, so it makes complete sense to keep the same formula going constantly, to try and pick up any audience it can, at any time it can. As depressing as that sounds to the rest of us, most people don't listen to the radio in the same way we do. The big losers in all this? Those who rely for Capital and Heart for their sole commercial radio choice in the regions, and even those in London, our biggest city, lest we forget, who are now dependent on LBC for news. There ain't much mainstream crossover there. Mind you, I suppose that isn't commercial radio's job these days. |

The Global stations are not supposed to be anything. Some may feel they should be, or ought to be something, but they are not supposed to be.
I'm sure Global were aware of the issues around specialist programming, and that is why they have sought to get the licences changed relatively quickly, and been successful. It makes no sense for Capital to veer towards specialism when the vast majority of listener loyalty comes from what they do during the day. There is no point in alienating those core listeners. I believe the posters assertions about texts during specialist shows requesting tracks from the normal playlist. Galaxy Birmingham was also more heavily urban skewed, to serve the needs of its audience. Wise, commercially sensible move by Global I say. Wise commercial move by Global I say. It's not Globals fault they're a business, I'm very disappointed with the regulator. |

Anyone else getting slightly fed up with all the Cover Drive promotion?
They were on the Big Top 40 show on Sunday, had a webchat with James Barr yesterday afternoon and on Rich Clarke's show yesterday. Then this morning they were interviewed on the Capital South Coast (and Heart South Coast). I presume this was the same on all local Capitals and Hearts? I know they are signed to Global Talent, but surely this is OTT interviews wise? |

It was exactly the same when they introduced The Wanted. That's been a big success, so they're obviously just repeating the process.

They were interviewed last Monday and it mostly went out on Friday on Capital South Coast. Although I didn't hear all of this mornings show, so they might have either replayed some or played out new bits. Heart SC would have pre-recorded the interview at the same time as they are in the same building, but seem to have waited a while longer to play it out on air. Probably because the new breakfast show started yesterday.

Cover Drive were interviewed on Capital Manchester on Monday too (I think).
I think they are going a bit too far with all this Cover Drive promotion. Every time they play Twilight, no matter who the DJ is, they rave on and on and on about how much they love the song and James Barr apparently plays it on his iPod 50 times a day (so he says). I know they want to promote them as they're managed by Global Talent but could they be any more blatant about it? It's not a bad song but you'd think it was another Unfinished Sympathy the way they go on about it! |

They promote it massively on Heart too. I heard the song on Heart Norwich the other day and it sounded so out of place. I'm not a fan of the song though, I preferred 'Lick Ya Down'

Was it not recorded in a link up to LS? I can't imagine traveling to the different "hubs" just for a 2-5 minute interview.

Defend WHAT exactly? The song doesn't sound out of place on Heart at all. It's a catchy song, has a great hook and fits the sound of the station. It will do well for Cover Drive.

Of course it will do well for them, and well done I spose? But I'm with Blue, it does sound out of place on Heart. SmartProgrammer, are you a fan of the song?
The only time it will sound out of place on Heart depends on what other songs surround it. If you play Twilight into Jackie Wilson, then yes you might have an argument. However, surround it with something familiar like Lady Gaga or Beyonce and it won't sound out of place at all. Correct placement is the key. Anyway, it's not being hammered on Heart. 3 spins max a day. |

Does the rap get cut out of 'Twilight' when played on Heart? |

It is a great pop song though and sits well on Heart. |

I'm sure this has been cleared up before but how comes then rap songs like the awful 'I'll Be Missing You' for example can be played in full on Heart but yet 'I Gotta Feeling' and also 'Where Is The Love' are butchered. I'm aware the 2 you play / have played are record company edits but other AC stations choose to play the full versions?
