Just heard a traffic update on Capital London due to the major incident on the M25 this afternoon, Nice to hear them making an effort keeping listeners up to date during networked hours.

To be fair to them they have been doing it all day, i was tuned to London at around 11am and they were doing them then. Just makes you wonder though if the same would have been done say for Birmingham if there was a major incident on the M6 ?

Yes of course. They've done it before!

But to London, it effectively isn't networked. They're putting out a local show for London, while a pre-recorded tech-opped version is going out for the rest of the network.
So they're pretty much free to say and do as they like on 95.8 as I understand it.

Are any other accounts closing? or just Zoe & Gillies? I don't think it's the "OFFICIAL 103.2 CAPITAL FM SOUTH COAST - GROUP" group that's closing, its their profile account (They don't have a Facebook Page)”

Both are closing.

Why is James Barr not in the mix tonight?

Not quite sure, it would be a shame if Global canned it.

That London traffic update would only go out to 95.8 listeners. If there was a major traffic problem in Manchester it would be mentioned in a link.

Also you have to remember London capital is a live show and isn't networked.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious

Actually the network is live. It's only the local inserts that aren't live.

Obviously all local links are pre recorded. However 95.8 links are live.

on weekdays from 10am-4pm, 95.8 is always live. The network is voicetracked and a few minutes behind.

No, the daytime shows links are pre-recorded by Rich/James before they go on air to do their live London show, a tech op plays them out in the network studio.

It's not 100% pre-recorded. I'm pretty sure just a few days ago, I had Capital on Sky 0109 hearing a link from James, before turning my TV off and putting the radio on and hearing the exact same thing.

That is correct. The 'Smart Network' is only on 10-4pm. This is where as stated 95.8fm is Live and the rest is a VT. From 7pm it is just normal network, so the same link on all transmitters.

I saw this in a video blog on youtube once, but I cannot find it.
The London jock does the Links live, with the rest having pre rec links usually done in the hour the show is live not all before in batch.

7-10pm used to be smart networked too when it was Rich, is this still not the case?

What format was James' show tonight?
chipman

It sounded as if it wasn't in the mix any more which is a shame. I like his 'danced-up' show on Friday and Saturday nights and he puts the tracklisting up too. Capital did this to Dave Kelly and turned 'Saturday Night Capital' into the normal playlist for some reason and it looks like they are doing it to James' show. What a waste of his talent if this is the case - James Barr is a great jock and can put oodles of personality in to short, snappy links and he does the whole 'hair straighteners o'clock' thing very well!

Pretty much the same as Friday. Some small mixing going on between songs, but no remixes at all. Does this mean the show is no longer 'in the mix' ?

To be honest, the only reason I tune into Capital is to listen to James's show and Andi's show. Now that James's show is pretty much a daytime playlist show, I don't see any reason to tune in anymore. Why would I want to listen to the daytime playlist when I'm getting ready to go out on a Friday/Saturday? As you've said, James has some excellent talent and I can honestly see the whole 'Dave Kelly Incident' happening again.

10am-4pm weekdays is 100% pre-recorded, the bulk of the links done before the live London shows, there is options to use "smart networking" as it's called, during the show if needed.

If a big traffic accident happens in Manchester for example, Rich/James will pre-record a quick link about it, the t/o next door will pick it up and insert it into the Manchester logs, generally though the links are recorded around 9am for Rich and lunchtime for Bassman. Doing them all mid-show would not be any more beneficial and would take their attention off their live show (on in London).
