I recently bought an ifp-799 (1gb) and must say it is fantastic.
Small size ( able to hang it around your neck), 25-40 hours off 1 AA battery, excellent sound and an overload of features.

If anyone is not purely looking at storage capacity (in which case an ipod or i-river h series player would be better) these devices are worth checking out.Pricey yes, but worth it.

Yep, agree with you there...

I recently purchased the 256mb icf-790 and have been very pleased with it's quality and features.

Items like the radio and direct recording from both the tuner (which can be timed) and the microphone make it very versatile.

The only thing I've noticed on a negative side is a slight hiss occasionally when using different headphones... it isn't very noticeable with the supplied ones as they are pretty bass heavy, but on better ones you can sometimes hear it.

Like you though, I would definately recommend an i-river unit!
