Nope. It isn't. Heck there's isn't even one remotely decent Android tablet that anyone sane would consider buying yet.

But lets come back in year's time and see.

One thing I would happily bet on, though, is that Apple will still have the lion's share of the income in tablets, regardless of marketshare, just as with phones.
I am glad that you now agree it is worldwide sales, and not just american Your lack of response to this point indicated you were wrong.

As for having the lionshare, they probably will. However it doesnt really mean much in real terms (unless of course you are employed by apple, which most of us arent).

There are plenty of exciting tablets coming out shortly, just because it doesnt have an apple logo on it doesnt make it dull .

Well it does, really, because the companies (and platforms) that survive are ultimately the ones that make money.

Android will survive because Google makes money regardless of whether the actual phone makers do (or don't).

iOS will survive because Apple is careful to differentiate its products and keep them high-margin.

The other platforms are likely to struggle unless they can find a way to make themselves pay. That was the problem Nokia had to wrestle with.

We'll see. When they're released. Eventually. If they get round to it...

I dont think companies like htc, samsung, LG etc will go bust anytime soon.

You sure that phone makers arent making money from their android phones? I think you maybe mistaken here.

I would like to continue this debate, but I will stop. You are finding it hard sticking to facts...its been entertaining

Margins are incredibly low. That's one of the key reasons why Nokia decided it wasn't worth making Android phones - there just isn't that much money there, as handsets become increasingly commodified.

If Apple is taking 50% of mobile phone profits, the pickings for the OEMs must be pretty slim.

I have a blackberry cause it's cheaper than an Iphone. £15 a month contract with unlimited texts + £5 for unlimited internet plus free phone.

Predictions are that Nokia's market share is going to drop like a rock this year and that Apple and RIM will be the main beneficiaries.

Sources please (reliable/credible ones this time Vall, not your ususal obscure source like UFO Monthly)

Back on earth, are Apple dropping prices to attract all of these desparate Nokia users? Perhaps Apple will lend them all £500 to buy an iPhone if prices remain high?

In reality, Nokia ain't going anywhere fast and if it did I guess Android and Rim would pick up the slack not Apple.

Try here.

Just because you haven't heard of Wired, Ars Technica, Robert X Cringely, Engadget, doesn make them obscure.

Bizarre.

Most people buy an iPhone on contract.

Sources or just anti Apple prejudice?

Read my post, I underlined 'I guess' hence removing the need for evidence as its 'my guess'. Lets be honest you often dig up some rather dubious sources for your blinkered pro apple campaign as others have commented in various posts of yours on DS; you get corrected in a lot in various threads but carry on regardless

I'm not anti Apple, I just believe they are overhyped and overpriced; just my opinion, they no longer rule the roost in smart phones, other phones now have as many if not more features and of course upgradable batteries and memory.

I'm sure I read they expect Blackberry to struggle. They are selling phones in a bit of a trend however specifications wise they are miles behind bit like the Iphone 3G in it's day. I don't understand why Blackberry has gone mainstream as feature wise like camera, screen it's miles behind Androids.

I hear people ditching Iphone for Blackberry which is funny it's actually a downgrade but no doubt Blackberry has it's perks like the popular messenger.

Sony Ericsson, LG, Nokia have been to quiet in the market last year and this year too. I have the Iphone would never go near a Blackberry would probbaly go for an Android but saying that I prefer Samsung's own OS in the Samsung Wave.

Blackberry is a trend they are not a market leader. Apple started out a trend but the Iphone 4 is a seriously good smart phone. I suspect many who bought the 3GS never went for the 4 as it was too good. Many preferred the curves of the old model. So I think now the Iphone is not a trend but many people see it as a serious smartphone.

Conclusion:

Blackberry = Trend in the market that will go.
Iphone = Started out a trend but now making decent smart phones that no other company can rival.
Android = Fills the void for all those who can't afford the Iphone or don't like Itunes.
Windows Phone = Will be a flop.
Nokia Symbian = Already a flop.

Blackberry sold more units in 2010 than apple. So Wrong there. Iphone make good smart phones that 4 companies rival very well. Nokia. Biggest sales for another year running. HTC and Samsung. Rival them very well. And I hate people say Android is just for people that can't afford Iphones. This is total rubbish, Top and equal model HTC's are the same price!!

Take a look at this
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-...e-sales-924861

In my opinion the iOS is too easy to use and designed for kids. Android looks better and you are free to customizes it any way you want. Thats why I didn't want an iPhone 4. also because all my mates are now jealous of my HD desire as they had to sign 24 month contracts to be able to afford apples rip off prices.

It was the Iphone 3GS that had the poor battery life lasting a day.

Iphone 4 is much better.

Blackberrys use to be the business phone but the fashion market has caught onto them.

I'd love an iphone but they're expensive and I have an ipod touch already (which does fairly much the same thing apart from the phonecalls) and I think Blackberries are expensive too. My old phone (which wasn't a smartphone) went on the blink this week so I'm getting a new one either this evening or tomorrow. I might go for a Nokia C3 as I like the fact it has a keyboard and Wifi. Next best thing to a Blackberry in a way

Honestly, an iPod touch may feel like an iPhone and have all the same apps but until you've got that always on data connection it's not even close to the experience of an iPhone It just makes you use it and think about it in a totally different way

Extremely popular with teenagers at the moment. My 16 year old wants one for her birthday.

It depends. I am rarely away from a wireless connection, but I imagine when my present contract runs out I will get iPhone 6.

Had a good long play (and I mean play) with an iPad today. Well f e c k me it really is just a big HEAVY HEAVY iPhone. Why the f e c k woiuld someone want one of those? And as for an Android tablet why have a crap copy of a crap device? Either get a phone or a netbook. Don't get a big phone that you can't make calls on or get a netbook that you need to pay extra for a keyboard and ends up costing twice the price.

Hey why on earth is f e c k a swear word? Farther Ted used it.

I have an HTC Desire. I work in a call centre full with a huge tech department, a sales department and a customer service department.

The tech department mostly have iPhones or an Android phone of some description. The sales department all seem to have either Blackberry for BBM or Android phones. Whereas customer services just seem to have generic "dumb" phones.

The general concensus is that Android is definately catching up to iPhone in my workplace although there doesn't seem to be a specific brand of choice for the android phones right now.

and having a choice is a bad thing because?

I dont want to be forced into only using one handset
I dont want to be forced into using one specific bit of software to use my phone.
I dont want to be forced into paying over the odds for a phone because only one company make it.

Dont worry, i predict apple will invent something that attaches to the ipad and has buttons you can press with letters on each one.. They will call it 'keytime' and everyone will all hail apple for inventing this device. I think they're working on something called 'flashtime' in the meanwhile. I hear that this could be a breakthrough for websites all round the world. after all, no one had ever had an 'app' before the iphoney came around did they.

Did I miss something?

Did someone say choice was a bad thing?

Erm...no.

You seem to have very good reasons for not wanting an iPhone. Other people don't seem to be so bothered by these things and are quite happy to buy into the whole apple ethos.

Personally, I like the fact that apple look after the operating system and hardware. In my experience it makes their products more focussed and their software less glitchy. It's by no means perfect, but in my experience it's more consistent.

That's just me though, I've got friends who don't mind the glitches and actually enjoy the freedom of choice you get with android. They tend to be a bit more 'into' their phones.
