What do Orange base their Loyality on?

Ok, so I've been out of contract with Orange since November, because I've been waiting for the, at that time leaked Xpearia Play, so I rang up today to see what contract I can get, yeah, we're using theory obvously, but we know the contracts are going to be about £40+, so I asked what about my loyity? what sort of price would I be looking at?

They then told me my loyalty was good, but the reduction would be based on factors like the price of the phone. I then asked her what loyalty was based on...............To which she said 'I can't tell you that', well that's B.S right?

You can't tell me what you judge loyity on? No she told me, and the reductions are different depending on handsets/contracts, which I understand. So what DO Orange base their loyity on?

Wish I knew Jay.

I'm eligible for early upgrade with Orange as of Tuesday, and as a precursor went into one of their stores a few weeks ago to have a look at the Galaxy S. Was told, uncategorically, that there was no way would I get that phone on a free upgrade, due to the contract I'm on (which is Racoon 25 "websave" - I get 200 mins, 200 "loyalty" mins, 300 texts and 500MB data for just over 20 squiggles a month).

Looking at a few threads around here, I could get a contract with more mins, texts etc for around the same price, with the phone free.

So unless the person at the end of the phone can give me a comparable deal (oh aye, and has a better 'tude than the girly in the Orange shop I spoke to last week), then a move may be on the cards.

I find that very worrying, get the info as to where the phones free and quote it and tell them to check it out when you're on the phone.

I don't get it. What do you mean by "your loyalty"?

The deals you will be offered are based on your profitability as a customer. Are you paying loads and cheap to service? Then you are likely to get a better deal.

The short end of it, loyalty with Orange like any other Telecoms company comes down to how much you spend each month. If you regularly go over your allowance and spend a lot each month you will be able to obtain great deals come your renewal. If you are a low user and only spend about 20 quid a month then getting handsets like the Galaxy S will become that much more difficult.

Orange operates on a banding system which will often determine the amount of discount or types of loyalty that can be offered. Just as a rough guide

Avg. Total Bill

£13 or less = Band 1
£14-29 = Band 2
£30-39 = Band 3
£40-49 = Band 4
£50 or more = Band 5

This is by no means an exact science as it will vary from person to person, you can use that as a guide. I will be blunt if you are on a cheap deal presently where you pay around 20 quid a month and your bill rarely goes higher than that, without increasing what you pay each month you aint got a cat in hells chance of getting expensive phones like the Galaxy S free.

The people who are getting these so called amazing deals will be the higher banding customers who are able to negotiate better discounts. The majority of customers on Orange fall into band 2/3 so it removes the possibility of phones being free on their current tariff come renewal.

I WAS on a £40 a month contract. However, as of November I've been on £15-20 not sure which for the simple reason I wanted the Play.

@goomba: The ladies word, not mine. So would you say I'd get a free handset?

UPDATE: Just looked, I'm on Racoon £15 with a £5 bundle for internet access.

there is no such thing as loyalty. their only concern is how much money they will make out of you going forward.

Is that banding on the Account of the Phone? As my last bill was £387 for Jan, and is normally over the £150 every month. So do Orange judge me on 1 Number or the Account?

There is a problem with getting loyalty discounts. If you're currently spending a lot/reasonable amount on monthly line rental and you get a large discount on that for your next contract, then you're not going to get as good a deal the next time as you've been spending a lot less each month.

By Christ there's some right rays of sunshine on this thread!!!

Nah, in all seriousness, thanks for the advice, especially Aye Up. Forewarned is forearmed and all that. I'll make my call to Orange tomorrow, and see what they say.

It is banding on the line i.e. each individual number.

@R Molehusband What did they say?
@Kenny Maclean: I think it'll be a while before I'd upgrade from the Play, it's what I've wanted for many years, a games console and a phone, I got lost distences on the train reguarlly, as I prefer not to drive, and am a gamer.
@flagpole: Like I said, the ladies words, not mine.
and £150 phone bills? I take it thats for more than 1 phone?

Before people go taking the info as gospel.....it is only a guide....other things like existing discounts can impact and length of agreement. However generally if you look over your bills over the last 6 months and work out the average bill for the line.....then look at the information I posted and there is your GUIDE and I emphasise the word GUIDE it won't be accurate in all cases and will vary.
