Is Adele overated?
Discuss. I think she is. She has a good voice, and seems like a nice person, but people rave about her like she's the second coming of music, which she isn't. I feel like scratching my eyes out when I hear Rolling In The Deep.

Great voice, no autotune, can sing live. That'll do for me.

Not you in particular, but it has become a trend on this forum of calling an artist the poster doesn't like ''overrated''.

If we look at the evidence I think at the moment she is still vastly underrated, although the tide is turning in the sense that many more people are becoming aware of her extraordinary talent. A talent that relies on no gimmicks, no prancing about in her knickers on stage, no appearing out of a vast egg or talking complete and utter garbage in interviews whilst wearing alien facial bumps, marrying Russell Brand etc.

I like her, but the world isn't ready for that. Mika's ''Fat Girls'' song is proof. *Shudder*

Again, cannot speak for everyone, but I'm not entirely convinced we would buy someone's music because of their appearance or personality. Even if she was a horrible person, I would still buy her music and go to see her live for her talent alone. The fact she is funny and lovely is just a nice extra, along with her stunning voice.

I wouldn't say she's "overrated". Her vocals are consistently great, but her material itself isn't exactly groundbreaking (albeit there was clear progression from 19). I just think many people (especially on DS) confuse their own personal opinion of an artist/genre with an artist's legitimate talent (or lack thereof), or in the case of the last few days, bitter GaGa fans.

Two words: Cheryl Cole.
![]() Anyway, onto Adele, I don't think she is overrated, as a singer, because she is incredible. However, the song, Someone Like You. I think it's overrated. Infact, I listened to the top 40 today, and if I had to rank them in order of how much I like them, Someone Like You would probably be like my 15th favourite or something. Again, it's nice. I prefer it to about 25 of the songs in the top 40, but there's many other incredible songs in the chart which nobody here seems to appreciate. Songs in the chart at the moment like Coming Home and I Need a Doctor are more emotional than Someone Like You, at least to me.

I think she's good, she can certainly sing, and her album is very good.
However, I also think that artists these days can gain a huge momentum of hype and ride that to a ridiculous degree due to the nature of the internet. (Susan Boyle) It's an interesting psychology going on, you almost feel guilty if you don't go along 100% with the adulation. I lost count of the DJs on the radio raving about Adele at the Brits as if she were the 2nd coming! This results in mass you tube visits, and off it all goes........... The performance and the song are very, very good - but are they really that good? It's just such a relief for many people to see a female singer get up there and sing (not mime) and gain the rapt attention of a whole arena without being semi nude, and strutting around to suggestive lyrics! From that point of view, I hope Adele continues to go from strength to strength. |

I just think we should ban the word 'overrated'.
Just ban it from life. |

There is a difference between not liking someone and calling them overated.
I personally dont like her style of music but would not say she is overated. What dissapointed me was all the hype about her writing her own songs only to find out that she does not. |

Is Adele overated?
NO!! She has a great, soulful voice, & makes proper songs full of emotion. THe charts are full of acts who are all smoke and mirrors, for whom image overtakes their limited vocal talents & rather bland songs they perform, but few notice as the package looks excitng & sparkly! Adele is all about the music. The industry needs these kind of artists more than ever at the mo... |

Adele's voice alone turns heads
That's because she's so LOUD!!!!! Why does she have to shout every chorus?

I do see where Paparazzo is going on. On youtube, all I read about her is
"Adele, you're such a good singer, and you're so beautiful". It's ironic, because I've actually been reading more comments about Adele's looks on her videos. On her videos the comments are like 50% about her singing, 25% about how beautiful she looks, 15% about how nice the song is and like 10% about how much they hate hip hop and RnB. On videos for, say, Katy Perry songs it seems more like 80% of the comments about the song, 10% of the comments about how good she looks, and 10% of the comments about Justin Bieber. It's just ironic that people go on about how hot Adele is more than they go on about how hot the more stereotypically hot pop artists are, but at the same time, they go on about how Adele doesn't need her looks to sell? |
