Will my brain be fried and my bank details stolen?!
I wanted to replace my cheap landline phone with another cheap phone, but one that had caller ID. In the end, the best buy seemed to be a cordless digital from argos and so I bought it on Saturday.
I am totally new to cordless phones and wasn't even sure if I was supposed to keep the charged handset in the base unit for fear of overcharging, so I ended up on google. I found that it's safe to do so, but I came across a lot of other stuff that has got me concerned. The phone is a DECT and I've read that the base unit continuously emits radiation and it's safer to have it situated at least a meter away from where you are. Unfortunately, how I'm set up, I am only about 60cms away from it for most of the day. Also, I have read that they are not secure and that for confidential calls it is better to use a corded phone. I am seriously considering returning it to argos and buying a corded instead. Am I over-reacting? |

![]() Just because some random webpage thrown up by Google says so and so does not make it true. What about your WiFi router? That radiates radio frequency energy in the same band as DECT phones. Are you worried about that frying your brain? Do you have a Video Sender, same thing applies. It would in any case be shed loads easier just to clip an ear piece across the phone line exiting your home if any ner-do-well was seriously interested in snooping on your conversations. Much less hassle than trying to intercept a DECT transmission. |
