We bought an external HDD to transfer and 'archive' recorded programmes we wanted to keep. My first attempt told me to change the NTFS format to FAT32 (or EXT3), which I've done. Now, although the Foxsat box finds the external HDD on USB1, I cannot find how to transfer (Move?) the files across. Header Menu items such as Move and Copy are not colour-highlighted in the various menu screens and the manual is no help at all...! Can anybody give me a walk-through or a source of instructions please?

P.S. I have e-mailed Customer Support but no reply.

In file manager cursor right to the USB pane and click OK on the sda usb drive icon to open the drive to it's root folder (repeat for sub folders). Now the hdr knows where to send the recordings, go left and move to a recording. Green copy should now be active. Pressing yellow to enter edit mode allows multiple files to be selected for copying.

One thing that caught me out was that the green button (Copy) is not available if the USB1 drive is at the root directory. It has to be pointing to a sub folder.

Yesterday I got a 1Tb disk and cradle as recommended by Graham and last night I copied an HD film over to the 1Gb.

Whilst the copy was in progress I couldn't change channel on the HDR.

Is it normal that the HDR functions are locked out whilst copying?

Unfortunately yes that's normal - rather tedious if you have a large amount of recordings to move, but you can use the file manager to multi-select and leave it going overnight etc.

The icon you look at is not the root directory it's the linux drive icon, the equivalent of say C: in windows (linux uses device names like SDA1). Opening the drive leaves you in the root folder, just as clicking C: does in windows. As already said you can use edit mode to multi select files to copy when you aren't going to watch the box.

If you press the off button on the remote the HDR will power off when the copying is completed; that way you'll know its finished and you can remove your USB drive.
