Apple profits....

I don't think iOS is weak and neither is Android.

Apple will always have plenty of people willing to pay for their products. They may have a relatively small proportion of the overall world phone market but they take 50% of the profits. If you are in the market for a £500 phone then at the moment Apple are the leaders but if you are in the market for a £100 phone then it wont be an Apple it may well be Android and there are going to be more people wanting cheaper devices than the top end devices. This is Androids rise has been quite astonishing and looks set to continue it will also compete at the top end as well but this is all good stuff for the consumer.

Strong is slight understatement with 30% income from applications, music subscription, newspaper subscriptions etc etc.

Microsoft must be kicking themselves for not charging 'rent' too.

They do. They're not stupid. You think you don't pay to publish for their closed platforms?

Try to publish for Xbox without giving Microsoft a large chunk of your income and you'll be laughed out of their offices before you can even open your mouth. Obviously it serves them very well, given how successful that part of their business is.

This would seem to disagree a little, at least in the UK. I know the article supposes that people are holding off buying an iPhone as the expected release of the next version is imminent, but I don't think the general populace is that knowledgeable and holding off until June at the earliest seems a little extreme.

But (next to) nobody uses Windows Phone 7 so there wouldn't be much profit in it.

Microsoft take 30% of WP7 app sales just the same as Apple in any case.

I find it amusing the number of people who say Android is for people who can't afford iphones. Yet the new top of the range Androids cost around the same as a new iphone.

Have you heard about the new budget iphone coming out (I think its called iphone mini at the moment) for which there's a lot of speculation and rumours. The strange thing is if I ask friends who have iphones (either 4 or 3G) they look bemused and wonder why anyone would go for one.

They both do the same thing. I prefer Android and it is far more practical for me. Next big thing will be when the iPad get's knocked out of the air by the HTC Flyer.
