O2 Suprises
Simon Rodgers
23-02-2011
Anyone who tops up pay as you go with O2 should be familiar with the top-up suprises.

I used to get useful ones with my phone like extra credit or a third off calls, etc. Now I just seem to get WAP ones when I don't use it or vouchers for shops I don't go to.

Anyone else noticed this?

Its a lucky dip, I guess you've just been unlucky and received prizes you don't want (even though someone else would want them)

Wouldn't it be best all round if they gave you things you do want and give the stuff you don't want to someone who does?

In an ideal world yes, but to do that they would need someway of knowing whether you are going to 'like' a particular surprise. That would require them to have a great deal of information about your likes, dislikes, personality, lifestyle etc. Personally, I would feel uncomfortable about them knowing that much about me. But if you want to you can sign up to O2 More which gives you discounts, targeted offers and adverts in exchange for you telling them all about yourself.

Well if they just checked my previous usage, they would see that I do not use WAP, so they could give that prize to someone who does. And I don't think ANYONE really wants vouchers for some shops which they don't really know of, especially if they have a lot of terms and conditions!

I can't speak for other people, but I doubt everyone has the same tastes and needs as you. Why deny them the chance to win something, just because it doesn't appeal to you?
As for looking at your previous usage (and putting aside the fact its a lucky dip and they can't fix it) how are they to discriminate between a service you have taken a conscious decision not to use (and therefore don't want to win ) and a service you haven't tried (and so may appreciate the chance to try for free) or a service you don't use because of cost (and would be delighted to win).

Yes I dislike getting the free text ones as I already have free texts. I'll never use the shop ones.

I did ask why can't they give my prize to someone who would want it. I did not say stop giving out anything I don't want, just please give it to those who do

Well, your post is there for people to read what you said about vouchers.
As for donating your unwanted prize. Why not make a suggestion to O2 that they have an option you can click to donate the prize to Charity or a random customer. I think that's a good idea.
