Have just bought a new TV a Sony bravia which has quite a few HDMI sockets on plus built in freeview and built in HD and of course am using HDMI to the Hummy.
Strange things happen when I am watching via the hummy, if I go to say BBC HD channel on the hummy menu I notice the volume goes really high.

When i switch the tv over to freeview the volume is at the same level (very high) so am constantly having to use the humax volume control and the tv's volume controls together.

Is there anyway of using the one volume setting, say maybe turning off the hummy volume and using the tv's setting or would this upset recording volume.

The HD quality signal is the same on the bravia in either freeview hd or freesat hd - its the first time i have had a genuine hd tv rather than a hd ready tv.

Does the Humax volume control work on both BBC1-HD and BBC1-SD or just on the SD channel ?

Works on HD and SD as its always done.
Only noticed the problem since changing TV but the Humax did do some updates if that makes any difference?

Reason I asked is that it seems to vary with the TV. I have the audio routed by s/pdif. Originally the volume control on s/pdif worked only on mp2 sourced audio and not on DD. A firmware upgrade () fixed the volume for both sources on s/pdif so you could no longer balance DD/MP2 audio. On my system DD is a lot quieter than MP2 (lpcm). I enabled the speaker output on my Sony TV and checked the levels, DD and MP2 are pretty much the same (humax volume set to 100%)

I have played around with the settings as well to no affect.
I similar to you have the Humax to 100% and the TV low but the difference is big between the TV and the Humax, most of the time I use the Humax mainly due to the recording and playback but I have to watch out when i switch between SD and HD - looks like there is no standard then between boxes and TV manufacturers.
If there had been an option for the bravia that gave me recording then i would have sold the Hummy but there wasn't - maybe in the future ? as the TV also connects to the net which is very cool.

Although you don't say which model of Sony Bravia TV that you now have, I believe the following is common to all the latest models:
You can set the audio volume per input on a Sony Bravia TV. Press 'Home' on the remote to come into the TV Settings menu and choose 'Sound' (way over to the left under the Toolbox icon). The screen shows the settings level for the current input (let's say HDMI) or 'Common' (for all inputs). Choosing HDMI you can now adjust the sound settings for the Hummy input including 'Volume Offset' which adjusts the volume level constant input relative to all other inputs.
Now choose 'TV' (Freeview)' via Input Select button on the remote and adjust the sound settings including 'Volume Offset' for this input.
Unless you specify a group of settings for an individual input the common settings will apply. Adjusting these settings will only effect the TV sound and will not have any effect on the sound level of recordings on the Hummy.
Refer to the Bravia manual for more info (it's on page 36 of mine).

Sadly in this case it's not a help, the OP gets the volume difference using the same hdmi input. If he watches a HD channel or recording the volume level is entirely different to a SD channel/recording. The same applies to my hdmi amp each input can be set to a different gain but the hdr is connected to a single s/pdif input.

On my Sony Bravia KDL-40WE5 connected to the Humax PVR via HDMI there is always a sound level difference between BBC HD and the SD channels requiring a higher volume setting for BBC HD on the TV. I never use the Humax volume button, it is always at 100%. I assume the difference is caused during the TV processing the DD or stereo sound signal.
If you leave the TV sound setting to 'Common' in the Bravia menu then when you switch over to Freeview the TV automatically matches the Freeview sound level to the level of the last 'input' choice i.e. HDMI. A similar adjustment is available to level-off sound differences from the same input i.e. between one Freeview channel and another.

In the menu you only ever get the choice between the 'current' and 'common'. So you first switch over to the HDMI input and go into the menu then choose the settings for that and then change your input to TV and change those sound settings. It doesn't present you with a drop-down list of all inputs + common. Unfortunately.
I had a look at your manual on-line and it is quite different to mine. Page 36 in yours won't get you anywhere! Good luck.

On my sony bravia TVS if you go to setup and select audio
there is option called Auto Volume. If you turn this on it should solve the problem. It also solves the problem of AD sounds louder then Programme

Mine isn't like that, it has home and options on the remote, when you go into options and then sound the nearest selection would be sound enhancer on or off.
Sound mode is standard/dynamic/clear voice its set to standard.
If i go to home instead and sound it gives a list of sound types eg stereo etc and audio out is variable or fixed, it was variable have changed it to fixed to see what happens.

Your TV is the same as mine, the option simply changes the TV audio outputs from fixed to being variable with the TV volume control
