Not sure if I should put this in the radio section or not.

So here goes, whats the best rechargeable battery's?

I use mine mainly for when away from home and not near a mains supply

So I charge them up at home,
but the ones I have been using are not now holding their charge very well.

I normally use the "D" and "C" batteries

Thanks

Go for the Low Self-discharge NiMH type that were introduced over the last few years

Much better than the old sort.

not sure about availability of C or D type though...

Run some wires onto the battery terminals and use sealed lead-acid types from Maplin. You can charge em fully at any time by connecting to a constant voltage charger and they cannot be over-charged. I have had some for over 10 years. Nicad are poor. Ni-MH are better but have a limited life. Li-ion have limited life.

Make sure you connect + to + and - to -

For C and D you should order online, the real ones have ratings capacity far above that of an AA, the ones in shops are aa's with a big case around them because real C/D can result in sticker shock, but you get what you pay for.

Second get a good charger that doesn't cook your batteries, one that stops on charge detection not on a dumb timer. Sites like candlepowerforum and such have good reviews on chargers and such.
