Reading this article on best selling phones from the on line version of the Daily Mail makes very good reading. Its also interesting how HTC dominate the top five best selling phones in the UK. Just wondered what you all though of this article - please follow link below.

Three things leap out at me about that article

1. Every single one of the top five comes in at a monthly price point at least £25 below the iPhone (and all of the remainder of the top ten is at least £20 a month cheaper). Not everyone can afford or wants to pay £45 a month

2. uSwitch as a source?? Really??? Perhaps asking the mobile phone retailers would be a good idea rather than a price comparison site which lists cheaper deals first

3. The daily mail. Enough said!

As soon as you see that its on the daily mail, its purely an article of fiction, there for entertainment value.

Whereas if you take a step back and think about it rationally, they're spot on. The Desire, is clearly a 'better' smart phone / phone / gadget, than the iPhone.

No contest really.

Better for you maybe. Not better for someone who wants a simple feature phone, or a BlackBerry, or an iPhone.

There are no absolutes in the "my phone is better than your phone argument" - it's down to personal taste and opinions.

Exactly this.

I get a bit bored of hearing people say "my iPhone is better than your Blackberry" or "my Blackberry is better than your Nokia".

The end of the day - it's personal preference. Just because someone has an all singing all dancing iPhone doesn't mean that it's better than my humble Blackberry. I don't like touch screen so an iPhone does nothing for me.

That's exactly what I think.

No phone is perfect for every bodies needs.

Very well said, and rarely a truer word written. Quite a lot of "reviews" seem to complete forget this and automatically jump on the fanboy bandwagon.

My personal preference was to have something with a truly decent camera, hence the N8. If that hadn't been important to me, I may well have stuck with Android.

Yet the Iphone is on everybody's wish list.

How many people own a phone that's "Just like an Iphone?".

Wait until Apple release a cheaper model.

It's not on my wish list. I do not want anything to do with Apple.
And you can't use the argument that most people own a phone that's "Just like an Iphone?". In that case, we all own TV's just like Phillips', because they were the first to use flat screen TVs.

It's the natural evolution of technology, and despite what fanboys and tech companies say, it is not copying.

I would disagree, I went Desire -> iPhone 4 and I'm much happier.

iPhone will be at least £100 cheaper by the year end.
I'm half expecting a budget sub £200 PAYG iPhone too.

Good for the iBuyers.

Don't know where they are getting their 'cheapest price' from. I have an iPhone 4 and pay £20 a month for a 12 month contract. Even the 24 month they quote has networks that do it for less than £45 a month.

Whats the food like on your planet

The ongoing Android development and range of phones at all prices meant the rather tired looking iPhone would fall, common sense really.

£15.32 a month will have been for a free HTC Desire.
It is quite easy to suspect an iPhone at £20 a month costs another £300 to £500 on top of this.

Britain is very lucky to have a good marketplace for savvy people.
The Daily Mail has weirdly become of recent quite an 'everyman' newspaper.

Britain is lucky to have the phone system we have and the comparatively large amount of providers. Our coverage really is very good compared to countries like the USA.

I'm still puzzled by all of this.

Whereas we recently had Android and IOS neck and neck, according to that headline the Android phones are actually selling between 5 and 10 times what the iPhone does.
It almost seems a bit too quick a change.

I am afraid the Android phones look dull, dull and dull ... and then there is the fragmentation problem as well as a better Android phone coming out every 2 weeks. This doesn't instill buyer confidence.

Though Apple have also supposedly almost halved their iPad2 production schedule from 200,000 max per month down to 133,000 max per month. Did all sales cool post xmas?”

Neck and neck? It doesn't appear so.

Supposedly
is the operative word in your post. The rumours and that is all they were about the production slowdown had nothing to do with sales but a supposed lack of touchscreens with production being ramped up in the next quarter.

That neck link shows Android has increased use by at least 500% in 12 months and so is rapidly catching up to the 4 years use of IOS gadgets.

I moved that bit about iPad production to the iPad2 post in 'gadgets'.
Its might also possibly due to a newer type of screen.
Digitimes is one of the more accurate sources for reports.

I would expect the sales of the iPhone 4 to be dropping off now, it is now an old phone, so people who want the iPhone will now be waiting for the iphone5 to come out. Other brands will have more sales at other times of the year due to them releasing more the one model a year. But once the iPhone 5 comes out it will top the sales.

But remember that mobile devices have a rather short life so you are probably looking more at the last 2 years of devices rather than the last 4.

Digitimes has more than its fair share of rumours that turn out to be nothing more than that.
